Cylinder de-gassing tool?
My Vulcan came with a black metal tool that has knurling on one side, and is threaded on the other. My understanding is that it is used to de-pressurize the gun’s cylinder. However, the AGT manual makes no mention of how this is done?
Can anyone enlighten me?

personally i like to take off the cover/ plate to view visually from the side,
the hammer has a tendency to come out and rotate when you undo the adjuster.
i would never try to force it in blindly, what if the hammer rotates and the screw on the hammer side will not be in the actions groove
if you try to force it in something will break. Would just jam against the action.
no idea about the spring removal maybe the hole in the tool is shallow and already pushing on the cocking indicator “head”. the bit with the red tape
instead of the fat bit which is under the spring deeper.
do yourself a favour and remove the cover when you mess with the internals.

You’re not supposed to remove the hammer spring?
Ah. I see the design intent. It is meant to push the hammer forward to depress the valve. The rear end of the hammer goes into the tool. Threading of the tool goes where the HST usually resided. You don’t remove the hammer or spring to use this device.
First. make certain the hammer is NOT cocked.
Remove the hammer spring adjuster and substitute this tool for the HST.
Turn the tool in to vent the cylinder.

For whatever reason, TAG kept locking up on me whenever I posted a link to YouTube? It wouldn’t let me do anything, and locked me out for something like an hour at a time.
What I was attempting to post was a link to a video by Ernest showing degassing a Vulcan using a home-made delrin piece. The piece he used is not unlike what AGT now sends with the guns. In any event, the video is quite helpful.

I still have a few side plate screws left if anybody needs one.
While you have the side plate open, consider some anti-seize on its little mounting screws.

BTW, this is done with the side access panel opened. You won’t be able to remove/replace the hammer and spring otherwise. The hammer does not just come sliding out of the hole of the hammer spring adjuster. It is removed from the side once the spring is removed. Also, don’t forget the little silicone sleave on the hammer spring. That reduces spring “twang” noise.
While you have the side plate open, consider some anti-seize on its little mounting screws. The new torx screws seem to help, but enough of us have snapped off the heads on multiple Vulcan cover plates that anti-seize is worth thinking about.

It really is a well built tool. Probably too well built if I’m honest (for what it does and how often it will get used).
