Deciding to give FT a try
I havent done much shooting lately and decided to try out FT for some practice.
My AA410 is a .22 and it only has a 10X Scope on it so I’m going to enter HFT at the next local (relatively) match.
I’ve set the Gun at 730 fps with JSB’s to give 19 fpe so today I was practicing the FT Position and zeroing my gun, figuring out the mil dot hold overs (and trying to remember them) and wasn’t doing well at all. I shifted position a little and that seems to have done the trick and I managed this at 33 Yards.
I still don’t expect to shoot a very good score, but it will help me get to know the 410 which is the main reason for entering.
Going to mark the scope AO with distances tomorrow as I was just using a rangefinder today.

Going to try it myself.
No need to guess. If your shooting at 19fpe your ranges should be close from 20 to 30 yards, may need to adjust the hold on the target. Also try shooting small circles on gids with more targets on them to help fine tune your ranges. I like the one’s that have different sizes like I have below.
Tried to mark my AO bell for the different ranges – but its pointless because there’s such a wide range where the target is in focus so I couldn’t get any consistency to it. Looks like I’ll just be guesstimating distance.

5 Shots at only 20 yards and not as good as yesterday….
Yeah I didn’t have to use the tray but I have one as well. One thing that I also seen was when filling, fill very slow. Things will move a little fast in FT and you will maybe fill 2 or 3 times in a match and you don’t want to make the air in the tube too hot. It just may make your gun shoot fliers or change the POI and try too fill after you shoot a lane, that gives time for your tube/valve to get back down to ambient Temp.

Ninja, make sure you can use the Mag. with your 410. Some clubs say NO it has to be a single shot tray and they make them for the S410. I’m sure it will be fine if you can show them you are a safe shooter. I used a Mag. in 2007 and won the PCP class for the year and it really helps keep track of the shots. You should test your gun too see when the POI shifts and the pellet count. Mine works the best for a re-fill after 20 shots but mines .177.
You can use the focus wheel but not permitted to do any clicking on the elevation knob. I range find using the mil dots as I find it easier for sure once you get to know your scope. The rules on the rifle type can vary from club to club. Any sport style rifle is good and if you have any adjustable pieces on the gun they have to be placed to the lowest or neural postion and you cannot use butt hooks. When I was using my EV-2 for HFT I had to replace the butt piece all together,

You can use pretty much any gun you want so long as its less than 20 fpe.

So the way I read the rules you could use a .25 condor at 960 or so. Other then shooting positions you could use a standard hunting rifle?

Its my understanding (Rule 2c) that HFT allows range finding with the AO (My scope doesn’t have a side wheel so I’ll mark the Bell with ranges when I get around to it) – your just not allowed to use clicks or any written aid on what to use for hold over/under so I’ll have to memorize the different hold overs.
Cool im sure there are rules on the rifle also. I didnt see a link for rifle specs.
