Q:

Where did you find silent pellet trap material?

I went to Home Depot looking for the duct sealing material to make the silent pellet trap and was unable to find it. The guy there had no idea what I was talking about (big surprise).

Can anyone tell me what the manufacturer and model of this stuff is and where you successfully found it?

Thanks,

It is tough to find the first time you look for it.

Assuming the Home Depot floor plan is all the same from store to store (which they are, for the most part), find the aisle with all the electrical switches and outlets. There’ll be a little section at the far-end of that aisle that’s full of a bunch of non-descript electrical stuff. Look down, there are some shelves full of stuff. The Elec. Duct seal will be there. They don’t “display” it, ya gotta know what and where to look. If the bricks aren’t sitting out in the open, then look for a shallow cardboard box that’s about 12×12. The brand name is “GB”, they cost just under $2 a brick.

Took me two trips around the store before I figured it out, but that’s where they’re at.

FWIW, the local Lowes doesn’t carry it at all, but it’s a stocking item at HD.

Found it at Home Depot

sorry for the large picture I’m in a hurry. Write down the item number in the photo and ask them to help you locate it, it should show up with a location when they pull it up on the computer

hope this helps

Cool thanks.

Ask for “Monkey Shit”. They love that!

Steve, You do not want the stuff in a can or bucket.

i want to get the bars actually to pack a electrical box.

It took me two trips to find it at Home Depot, it was in a small brown box (about 8×11 and 2″ thick…).

When you install open up one piece of plastic and cover the whole thing, that way you won’t be getting your hands all sticky and the dust doesn’t cling to the exposed seal surface… Then you can use a piece of wood to make the duct seal even.

Thank you gentlemen, I went to the HVAC department thinking it was for sealing air ducts.
Thanks.

It is for sealing duct. It’s more common now to use paint on type goo though.

Yea, that is what they had, but it was $11 for one quart.

It is much cheaper if you go to an electrical supply house. I got a 5 lb block for less that 2 1 lb blocks at Home Depot. They also have the enclosures for about 10 bucks less than the Depot. I went to Platt but there should be many in the phone book.
