Q:

My AF pump can kiss my ass!

……………and right in the middle, too.

All it took was taking part in a post to GettheBlueJay where he talked about his pump being out of commission. My pump must have been reading over my shoulder from the shelf it sits on in my office and now it has decided to act like a bitch!

It is pumping to about 2,000 psi and then not increasing any higher in pressure. Kind of makes a slight air leak/hissing noise on the downstroke, which it has done a few times lately but it used to feel like all of the sudden something sealed for some reason and then I could pump to my normal fill of 2,800 psi. Now tonight, nothing above 2,000 psi. I have removed, cleaned and tightened all fittings to no avail.

What is wrong with it?

From what I have read, it may be the third stage o-ring. Is it worth taking this POS apart and trying to fix it myself with ACE hardware O-rings or should I send it back to AF on warranty and just not shoot for two weeks? Has anybody successfully fixed one of these with local parts?

Glad my new .223 will be here this week!

Any help/advice would be highly appreciated!

Change of plan on my pump.

I spoke to the lovely Rachel (no clue if she really is, but she is surely very nice) again this morning and convinced her to just send me the o-rings I need to be able to repair it myself. She also said that they are having a third-party put together a repair kit and instructions for later release to the public and that she would try to get the instructions to me as well.

On an interesting note, I asked her if they where aware that almost all dealers and owners advise purchasers to NOT BUY the AF pump, a fact she said she was not aware of. I also asked her if anybody at AF read the yellow forums or talonairgun.com forums and she said that their manager did. I also took the opportunity to tell her that although most owner’s love their SS/Talon/Condor the general consensus on the pump is that is junk and that AF would win the support of many, many owners both if they addressed it’s durability.

It seems to me that the most common issue is with the third-stage and the check valve o-rings going bad due to abrasion caused by overheating and that O-rings with a higher thermal rating or that are internally lubricated may help to resolve the issues?

I would rather take the time to figure out what is causing it so that I can fix it myself rather than sending it back to AF everytime it quits working.

Hey Lama, try 1/4″ at 100 yards, which is a one hole group btw, with a .338 Lapua Magnum ❗ 😀

Black Sabot, I had air force pump that I fixed a couple of times that would fail because the hardware store o-rings could not handle the heat or pressure.
I just fixed my assor pump with some o-rings I bought form northern tools http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200324966_200324966 I bought both the sae and metric boxes, but for the assor I only used the metric. It comes with a lot of sizes and is pretty cheap. My pumps been working for a couple months. 😀 😀

Benzin, Thanks for the info, I have already had it apart and it apears to be pretty simple -I am just worried about having the same issues as you using only hardware store o-rings.

Thanks for the link Sawtime, I didn’t get to the mail today and think I will just keep it here and fix it myself. Can’t be half as difficult as the forks and shocks I have rebuild for years on my dirtbikes.

I appreciate the help from all members that have replied to my post.

We have one of those piece of shit AF pumps here, and it recently took a dump, with the help from a good fella on this forum i replaced the small oring on the 3rd stage and it worked fine for a while, but then it went bad again 🙁
i took it apart again, and the oring i just replaced went bad again. Changed it again, and it (again) worked for a while and went dead once more.
The problem is that im not using the proper oring as a replacement, im using a standard rubber oring wich doesnt handle heat too well, i need a viton one.
Ill try to get it at a hardware store and replace it again.

If your pump is out of guarantee, i suggest you take it apart, is really not too dificult.
Good luck!

I just got a return auth. # from Rachel at AF and heading out to the post office to send my pump in for repair. She did tell me that they are putting together a “pump repair kit” that they will release soon.

Hopefully sooner than later.

😀 Yeah. It’s that good.

I knew it was small when one of my .25 pellets wouldn’t fit through it. 😀

I just posted an Announcement warning against buying any other pump then the Hill.

What I don’t get WoK is that the AF pump internals are IDENTICAL to a Hill pump (I know, I just took mine apart using the Hill pump diagram on AOA) From what I have been told by several people not only are the AF and Disco pumps indentical, but that the internals are actually sourced directly from Hill by Crosman! Can anybody confirm or refute that? Makes no sense to me that the Hills last forever and AF pumps are already having suicidal thoughts while in the UPS truck on the way to your house.

Ice cream, when the f#ck did we get ice cream?

HOLLY SHIT, I misread your signature………that’s .027″
…………you definately can’t read any posts I make about my new .223 then. Consider yourself banned! 😉

All other pump makers only make shit. Hopefully some will take our advice and save a little more and get the hill or a tank

I’m like you. At night I like to sit up and stare at my rifle. Other than at school (for obvious reasons there) it never leaves my side.

That’s right tell that pice of shit to treat ya to a booty chew

If it’s still under warranty send it back. they are very fast at getting things fixed and sent back out to you, I once broke the stem in the tank and sent it out to them on monday and had it back on friday, I’v also sent the hole gun back to them a cupel times and it has always came back faster than I thought it would 8)

shit if it’s new enough call were ever you got it and tell them to take the pice os shit back and upgrade to a hill and be done with it, and even if it not new enough it might be worth a try anyway????

Going to have to post us pictures and groups. .223 is fun. 😀

I will……..and everyone but you can read it! 😆 It won’t hold a candle to your Blaser shooting 1/4 MOA! And just to come clean, I sometimes have “special time” alone in my office late at night looking at the Blaser in your signature…..and then I accidentaly look at your avatar and have to start all over again. Nice gun kid, and btw I am a quite supporter of your furry puppet scarf thingies.

ps. My AF pump can still kiss my ass.

Going to have to post us pictures and groups. .223 is fun. 😀
