Hand pump mod from Mike Sitz….
He attached a compressor to the inlet of his hand pump
with regulator set at 70psi and filled a Condor tank with
12 strokes from 0 psi to 2,800psi….I tried 70psi and could not
push the handle down once the pressure got to
2,000psi or so….I turned the regulator down to 40psi and
was at 2,800 in no time….Not sure of the long term effects
on the pump but I can tell ya it is a huge improvement over
2-300 strokes to to fill a tank….
This is my hill pump…I unscrewed the fitting from the bottom
of the moisture filter and screwed on a standard Quick Connect…
You can screw a male fitting quick connect directly into the elbow….Perfect fit….Doesn’t even matter if it leaks a little but you
can use teflon tape if ya want to..

I believe it is not going to have any problem because it gets up to them same pressure as before…
Yes. I can get replacement seals for it…I just hope it doesn’t eat them like candy…..I need to find some instructions to replace them myself. I am sending it to PA for the first seal replacement…
I think I remember it just going through seals in the pump. I believe they are replaceable.

Yea I heard..they don’t make them any more…i got it cheap in hopes I could baby it and keep it running…..
Unless they have changed the design on that one it only has one “pump”. AoA had them in their store but always seemed to try and talk me out of getting one whenever I asked about them. They said they had to many problems with them.

You know I would really like to find a inexpensive , pump assembly only, with a very low output volume (that”s a cheap pump I think). Them with a little more work build a setup (electric) that could be used to fill the scuba tank.
I only say this because it sound like you could use the above idea to help with this idea.

I have an electric pump on the way…It is and FX electric water cooled compressor and is set up pretty much like you’re talking about only a little more elaborate…It uses what looks like 2 hand pumps… One long one and one short one….

Compressor came yesterday…Gotta get the thing resealed and then it is on……
Don’t have the filter inline….Would have to rig up some connections…I am just doing without…
From what I’ve been reading about the Hill pump and looking/glancing at its design I don’t think there will be any detrimental affects on the pump…especially if turned to 30 to 40 psi. The only thing people will want to be certain that the input air is devoid of condensing moisture. I will need to buy a moisture trap on the output of my Craftsman compressor.
Do you still have the Hill-dessicant in-line? Or did you toss it out the equation completely?
Well I have done a least 20 fills using this method and I have NOT seen anything negative about it so far……Doesn’t SEEM to be hurting the pump….Time will tell

No problem Bohlmann, you at least confirmed the cost of usable nitrogen…I had heard a similar report before about rental and fills….
Nitrogen is starting to look real good to me.
Tank rental for a year is $12.00 (that’s only a couple of whiskey and cokes) and a fill is $14.00 (three more whiskey and cokes)
But if you got one on the way it sounds good………..
This post, THAT I MADE, turned out to be Bullxxxx. I did get the nitrogen tank and the rental was $12 / yr but after getting the damn thing home turns out, now listen to this, the pressure in the tank is only 2100#. So I called them back and unless you get a 6k (6000#) Tank for $60 /yr and a whooping $116 or more per fill its a no go. They also quoted a regulator for 3000# out 6000# in was $400-$500. Sorry about that Buzzcat & Mamcrackin didn’t mean to cloud the water while we all search for a better way.
So, I ordered my hand pump and am back on the Scuba kick………
