796.3 average,22.5 fpe, about 375psi of air, which would be 35psi per shot. I was not impressed with my shooting I’m thinking the bushings maybe loose or these 177 E.J.’s are junky

if your shooting with a 12″ barrel, turning the pw past 7 or 8 has no effect on the fps of the pellet. it’s just wasting air because the bullet leaves the barrel so quickly. just some food for thought…
For your target competition perhaps you should lower your Power wheel and get it at about 550fps. And sight that in and see if it helps with tighter groups. Since Target rifles actually shoot in that fps range anyway. Unless your happy with your grouping already.
Might want to experiment with a bit of a lower power and see if it helps.
My 21″ stainless barrel in .22 cal through my Talon will do 860.00 to lower 900’s on the Chrony and it will drive a 14 grainer CP pellet through a 3/4″ pine board and then about a 1 1/2″ into a Phone book! It’s moving.
My groups all touching out to 25 to 30 yards. I could cover it up with a Nickle. On a good day a dime. I rest my rifle on stick rods. On a Bench rest or clamp I think it would be a tad tighter. Because I have found that I am moving around so I pull it tight to avoid that a tad. 😉
I’m getting 780fps w/10.5 grain CPH’s using the 12″ 177 barrel and standard tank. I think I’m going to dial it up a bit and try it in a field target match since I don’t have a true FT rifle.
the guy was getting 740 to 760 fps, I use kodiacs and probably see mid to high 800’s low 9’s. All I know is that the heavies shoot decently flat to around 40 yads….
.20 cal in a 24″ barrel!? Thats sweet! I would stick with that. But here is Tony’s work. Can’t say enough good things about it.
Take a peak at my Tuned Talon SS. He did it in 2007 for me. And it is still running very well. I did take it apart the other night and cleaned it up real well. I keep it in my Armory sheltered well.

Im building an indoor Chrony set up. So I can do this at home or the night before I wish to take it to my friends farm for some grouping or plinking. This way I don’t have to take all that out to somewhere if I don’t want to. Then I can compare fill pressures with fps and then see what they do on paper. I think one can really only do this so much before you finally come across what works and then you should just stay there.

Sounds nice, I think I have a bum barrel for now, I have my .20, 24 in. barrel in now and get real good groups at 30 yrds. JSBs at 1000 to 1028, pw on 1.8 and the spring is jacked up with washers. So you got a stainless barrel from Tony and it is real accurate? I wonder if he still can make them and what they sell for.

I have had real good results with that 12″ .177 Stock barrel. I get 870.6 to 922.9 for a great number of shots. Anthony 266 tuned it up and placed a 21″ STainless barrel in it and rebuilt the hammer and set up and jeweled the tank real nice. And with .22 cal it shoots the same. I lowered my power setting today from 9 to 7 1/2 and it shoots just slightly slower but much tighter groups. Well I wonder if it is slower I haven’t clocked that one yet. Is your Talon SS stock? If you can you might want to have someone to jewel it up a bit for you.
I have always had real good results with that 12″ .177 barrel though. There is much I don’t know but have learned a few things regarding the PCP’s. Once you find the ballance of the tank pressure and barrel length and then pellet used there is that little zone for a while that is perfect. Like I can almost shoot it through the same hole or touch the hole I just shot to make a almost one hole group. I am sure you know this but have you lowered the power wheel a bit and found a spot around 2600 to 2700 within the talon’s tank?
I always had a blast with that 12″ .177 barrel out to 35 yards even before Anthony .266 rebuilt it.

I could’nt get good groups with that barrel, so it’s outa here, I may try giving it a polish later and try it one last time, I have my .20 in there now and it is shooting good, another long gun.
Almost right, tophat was set at 0.1, but that was how it was setup by AF.
Thanks for the info guy’s I may have to try a wider top hat setting, just to see if I can get more air out of it, I think I can muster a little more.
16 grains is a lot of .177 cal pellet. I would guess your tophat is at about 0.07″.
I found out this weekend that my idea of low power is fine out to about 35 yards. After that you need more velocity and mass to reach out with accuracy… 😉
11 shots using 600 psi, that is 54 psi per shot, which is not a lot of air per shot.
A larger tophat gap will get you more velocity…
If you can get your hands on some H&N Rabbit Magnums, you will be amazed what they can do in .177
Mine pushed 27 FPE in a 18″ .177 barrel.
Mine does 920 fps. .177 – 12″ – baracuda ( kodiaks ) 10.6 gr.

in .22 a 21gr Kodiak will go around 750fps.

Yes thank you and your right. I read something regarding PCp airrifles in “Total Airguns” with Pete Wadeson and I thought of that. And thanks for telling me the truth. But I switched back to that nice 21″ Stainless that Mr.266 made me and I keep my Power wheel on 7. It will clock at 866.6 to around 920.7 depending on the tank load of course. I can take a 3/4″ pine board and a phone book behind it and it will blast through the board and enter the phone book up to an 1 1/2″!
It’a good .22 set up I say. 😮
