Q:

First test of Air Hog Regulated Carbon Fiber Tank on Air Hog

I finally got the time to test the Airhog Regulated Carbon Fiber Tank on my Air Hog prepped Air Force Condor(.22) with 24″ barrel. I filled the tank to 4,000psi and was using the 18gr. JSB Exacts. The string is as follows:

1010
1011
1014
1011
1011
1003
1010
1009
1012
1011
1003
1010
1009
1003
1008
1004
1005
1003
1008
1004
1007
1004
1005
1004
1008
1004
1000
1004
994.4
1008
1001
1002
1009
1005
1003
993.6
1000
1010
1006
1004
1004
998.1
1013
1007
1012
1005
1006
1003
996.9
996.3

If I did the math right, that’s 50 shots with a spread of 18.4fps!!!!!!! 🙂 I’ll be filling it back up to 4500 psi in the next day or so to test it again. I am inclined to think that as the regulator settles in and with a 4500psi fill, things should get even better in terms of shot count and the extreme spread!!! 🙂

Tony

Hello

I have been following your posts on the regulators you have been working with. After reading how happy you are with the Airhog setup, I ordered one. Slowly filled it to 4500 psi, from my 6000 psi nitrogen tank and it set in the grass next to my shooting bench for about 5 min. before the 5000 psi burst disk blew. Scared the shit out of me! Glad that I didn’t have it installed on my Condor and my cheek on the tank when it went! Van wanted it back to check it out. Just got it back yesterday and gonna try it again. (I have 2 gauges, in my fill station, that are certified to +or – 2% and I am certain that I didn’t overfill the tank)

That is not why I PMed you tho. I thought that you had a post that you put a Talon valve in the Airhog setup, can’t find it now. Did you put a Talon valve in the setup? Are you using a stock Airforce hammer? Are you using the extra Airforce Condor hammer weight? What settings did you end up using? Plan on getting it going by this weekend.

The Edgun importer just called me, said that my gun should be in by the end of the month! My Condor might have to sit for a while! 😀

Thanks for any info.

I’ve searched all over the Airhog site but cannot find this reg anywhere. Is it a production item or a one-off special?

You have to call them Langnasen….

I’ve searched all over the Airhog site but cannot find this reg anywhere. Is it a production item or a one-off special?

Here is the Chrony/groups at 65 yds….FPS for both was great…I
even went from 4/4 PW to 10/10 with little or no change in FPS so
I know 4/4 is maxing out the reg output…
It looks like these pellets just don’t like going that slow….I know the
18.1 likes doing low to mid 1000’s and the 15.9 seems to do ok at
1,050…This is a mess…I am just hoping I can keep this SD
once I try to get higher speeds….I think I am going to try to get up
to 850’s then 950’s to see how that groups…….

Here are about 15 shots 15.9 at 1,050 FPS Airhog

Here are 6 shots 18.1 @ 1,034 FPS Airhog

BTW the Airhog shot a 4.3 SD on the 20 shot string..

Ok…Here are more regulator facts….
I have a JDSairman reg modded to a 1,400-1,550psi output
I shot some strings today when I got my new AF co2 adapter in.

24″ Condor
Fill psi 3,100
1st string 32 shots with JSB 15.9gr PW 4/4
Low 774
High 796
Average 778
Extreme spread 22.0
Standard Deviation 3.74

2nd string 32 shots
Low 761
High 777
Average 769
Extreme spread 16.18
Standard Deviation 4.0
I shot 107 shots past the 32 that the chrony will record trying to find the
FPS drop off psi…Ending PSI 1,450
That is a total shot count of 171 from a 68 cu in tank….

I then refilled and shot another 20 shots (getting tired at this point)
and Got an average FPS in the mid 760’s and a Standard Deviation
of 5.0…I am not knocking the unregulated bottles but they can’t
produce those kind of numbers without some major modding…
I have 2 more regs on the way set at 2 different outputs. I am going
to take them apart and figure out how to arrange the washers to customize
the reg output……

Cyg, myself and Cygs relative were smacking a 1″ paddle at around 50 yards quite regularly.

Tony, that is a fascinating set up and good numbers.
Has anyone with this set up done accuracy testing @ 50 that you know of?.

Here is a 65yd, 5 shot group with the same setup and 18.1gr
JSB Exact running about 1,040 FPS. Haven’t tried Kodiaks….

This thing is incredible…
65yd shot..All I could see was his head….One shot one kill….

I gotta risk a stupid question. Is the Beeman Kodiak the only pellet that seems to perform better below 1000 Fps. or does this rule apply to all pellets? Or is the 1000 Fps. thing a myth in itself?

That transonic barrier is what kills accuracy…domed pellets typically handle the faster speeds better than other shapes/desigs when accuracy is the goal…

I’ve had one rifle that would only group its best at 25 yards with 8.44 gr Exacts at 1, 025 fps muzzle velocity…

Every barrel is different and I have found accuracy swings in different batches of the same pellet brand/model…

Tony

thanks for the pic. That is one awesome looking machine. Benchrest comp would be fun, but out here in the sticks I havent found to many people that even know hotrod pellet guns even exist.

Wok

I should have known you would have a butt to fit it. I have been lurking on you alls sight for sometime but hadnt noticed that style butt before. When are you gonna do another run of Wokbutts? Ide like to get my hands on one.

I remember the guy trying to sell knockoff butts the forum members reemed his &#@. He got was he deserved.

Justin,

in many ways its very good that we stay under the radar with our fancy bb guns!!! 😀

Interesting, that is a big spread…are you using an Shooting Chrony without lights on it? With mine, I have to use lights in daylight to get consistent readings/function!

I’ll be watching for your posts!

I have the chrony under a patio cover with no light diffusers.
I ran a full string on PW 1/1 and it sucked too much to bother posting….
SD was 25fps…..
I moved to 2/2 and it got better but still not what I wanted so I went back
to 3/3 where it was before..SD is about 11fps..I get fewer shots but it is
much more consistant than the lower PW settings…..
Having a compressor helps to put shot count 2nd in priorities….
I may try PW 4/4 but I think 3/3 is the best I am
going to get in consistancy and shot count…..

This butt is suppose to be ready soon from Airhog….

That is a Knock off mine. A guy was selling them awhile back but folks let him know it was not appreciated.

I guess he found a buyer in AirHog. 🙄

So do you have this setup WOK?
If so I’ll take it…..

I have been making this style for years. I still make them and do so on special order.

Here is a 4,100psi fill with 11 shots on the end that the chrony
wouldn’t pick up due to the clouds….Total shots were 42….
AAAAARGRGGRRJHHHHH!!!!!!
I tried PW 0 but FPS was all over the place. FPS was running from 950 to 1000….
PW on 1/1 for this string. Ending psi was 2,500…SD FPS is not bad but, it is not 4
I’ll try to get a full stinking run this afternoon…..
I also lubed my hammer so that may
tighten things up on the next run….
Stay tuned…..
