Lathe problems – Again
I used my new shop compressor to clean my lathe down (and it is very clean) –
Worked fine for a bit but now unfortunately it doesn’t work anymore – I’m thinking a chip got blown into the controller and shorted it out.
Does anyone know a quick way to check to see if its the motor or the controller ?

YN; YOu might considder a cooling Fan mod for those large heat sinks on the FET’s. If they’re in a sealed box, The controller is cooking itself….!
Maybe a CPU Fan to move cool air and screened ducts/vents to keep chips out.
Screened Vents on Top and bottom of the box would help some. Smoke stack effect. Hot air rising out of the top will pull cool air in at Bottom.
That’s how most plasma LCD and Direct view tv’s are cooled.

No warning, I did notice that the cover was a bit warm when I was finished – but figured that was just because I’d been using it for about 3 hours.
what did it run you and were did you order it from?
also was there any warning sings before it went belly up?
Controller. Ordered a new one yesterday.

Here is some experience
Make sure your motors belt did not inadvertently cut your power cord. Open up the back where the motor is and look.
Make sure and check all plugg in connections in the box and insure they are on tight and making connection.
FUSE….
After that do what these other mooks said.
That’s not a girlie lathe. That’s a midget’s lathe.
Probe with DMM and check for voltage at the motor while dialing up some power.
Yeah, and when you scrap that one for a man’s lathe be sure to let me have that girlie one. 😉

if you got it at harbor freight contact them…the same thing happened to the one like that i got from them…they shopuld be able to point you in the right direction.
(they just gave me a new lathe as it was new when it happened to me…)
