The long awaited arrival of the big brown truck came to be yesterday afternoon when he delivered my ATN 3rd generation night vision goggles. Military spec intensifier tube with IR assist. Took them out into the pasture last night on their maiden voyage. Overcast clouds hid what was left of the moon rendering it “Pitch black”. Strapped the unit on and OMG, the world came to light in a brilliant green. Was watching some deer about 100 yds out and could see them as clearly as if they were lit up with a green spotlight. Now just awaiting the arrival of a red laser to mount on the AR for complete darkness sniping of varmints and hogs without the use of any lights. Just put the dot on them through the NV goggles and pull the trigger …. Can’t wait !!!

Here’s a shot from my driveway of the area I’ve posted 10,000 times of shooting skunks, possums and other crap. From where I am standing, the fence is 35 yds and is still pitch a$$ dark with no ambient light from the sky.

When I was buying they couldn’t get any Mil Specs because they were all going overseas and ITT weren’t releasing any for the US Market.. or so I was told. As a result mine had a couple of blemishes but nothing major. It was the relatively low LPM that annoyed me more.
LOL …. Retirement is on my near radar screen and I don’t want to leave them with them when I pack my box …. 😆 😆
That looks good man. You should’a gotten the PD to cover the cost. Justifyable usage no? 🙂
Yeah, the sales guy was saying there are 3 different grades for the 3rd generation tubes, the best grade being Mil-spec, the second best grade is commercial grade which has some minor dark blemishes in the screeen, the last being A grade B commercial which is the cheapest but has several blemishes or dark spots in the screen.
We went with Mil-spec and they are “Hard” to find due to military uses. It took him about 2 weeks to locate the 3 new sets we bought.

OK, pics are kind of crappy, actually looks better through the goggles than the pics do. It is pitch ass dark outside right now, no lights within 4 miles of me, overcast and cloudy. I stepped out behind the house and saw this doe, she is around 65 yds from where I snapped the pics……

The goggles themselves it says weighs 1 lb. I wore them for probably 30 minutes last night and they were not bulky or cumbersome at all. Kind of screws your eyes up when you take them off for a little while trying to get used to the headlights of the truck again though.

If your shooting its going to be hard to hold the NVG’s over your eyes and shoulder the rifle, get a good cheeck weld and actually kae the shot! Best to mount to Hard hat and go about like that, unless you want to buy a kevlar helmet. They can be had for around 150.00 I think.
Thats sounds cool. I just put the neck strap on them to carry them around the neck like you mentioned and I think I like that really well. Just got to try and see what works best once the IR laser gets here as to which is easiest to shoot with.
Find yourself something hard to mount the NVG’s to, it will save you a headache in the long run. I also do not suggest “running” in them, as your depth perception is severly lacking while wearing them. I have taken many branches to the head while wearing them. While in the Army, I just wore them around my neck and brought them to my eyes when I needed them. They sell a plate you can bolt onto a hard head piece and the mount allows you to flip to NVG’s down over your eyes and up over your head.
Another neat feature of the 7 delta’s was the compass you can attach the the monocular. You attatchd a piece on the end of the monocular and you could squeeze said piece and you would be albe to see a compass in your NVG’s.
The head piece is made from nylon strapping, the mounting hardware on the headpiece is a hard plastic, with a rubber chin cup to secure it to your head and weighs basically nothing.

NVD’s are an amazing tool wheh used properly. I wish I had some spare cash laying around to pick up some pvs-7 deltas they are about 4k. That is what we were using when I got out.
