Q:

Talon SS or Marauder?

Hi,

I’m looking at buying either a talon, talon SS or a condor vs a Benjamin Marauder.

Prices locally are: Talon 499, talon SS 508, condor 599 (no sights no clamp)
Marauder is 439

I have a scuba tank as well as a co2 and hand pump for a Benjamin Discovery that I already own. The scuba fill could be adapted to fit a talon for about 15 dollars.

To the questions!

If anyone has both the talon SS and the marauder how are the noise levels in comparison? From what i gather the marauder is quieter.

How low can you adjust a condor for under 20 yard shooting, say 600 fps or so and how many shots will that net you? I gather from reading @ 50 useful shots at a lower power and 15 or so at full power.

I anticipate the talon/condor would be similar to the discovery in noise at comparable velocity’s, correct me if i’m wrong.

Can you use hpa paintball tanks with an output of 850psi for low velocity shooting with the co2 adapter? I see regulated versions with 1000-1500 psi being mentioned but no 800-850 psi. To low? (This would be a huge factor since i have 2 tanks that could be used for plinking at low velocity)

Add to this as well as you see fit.

Talon family
+very very adjustable usefull power band and it seems easier to tune than the marauder.
= accuracy seems about the same on both
+use of hpa paintball tanks for lots of shots at low velocity (if possible)
+easy to swap out calibers/barrel lengths

Those are my main attractions to the talon line.

Marauder
+quiet (seems to be the most quiet)
+10 shot clip
+adjustable trigger
-adjustability seems more involved
-heavier
-can’t swap calibers
-velocity’s are not as flexible nor as powerful as a condor
+I have all the fill gear

I would very very much appreciate some input from those with experience in both for making a final decision. The discovery is a great low cost pcp and kicked the door in hard for wanting more of them. I have eyed the talon line for years but the marauder has a LOT going for it.

Thank you!

Lee

I made it through 3/4th’s of the Straitshooters pack today here are the groups. All shooting at 50 yards (laser) Crosswind of 3-10 knots. Pressure 2500-2000 (2 mags then top off)

It likes Crosman Premier and Beeman FTS as well as Kodiak maybe. All groups are 10 shots. 5 shot test groups with CP yielded a 8/16″ and a 7/16.

Can’t beat the sunny 80 degree day here in Maine, with the two months of rain we had in June and July.

RWS Hobby 4 5/16″
Beeman Laser >5″
Beeman Silver Bear 3 2/16″
Beeman H&N >5″
RWS Meisterkulgeln 3 10/16″
Beeman Silver Bear 3 2/16″
Crosman Premier 1 1/16″
Crosman Powapell (pointed) 3 8/16″
Crosman HP (Benjamin HP) 3 2/16″
JSB 14.3 grain 3 11/16″
Beeman FTS 1 4/16″
Beeman FTS DBLGLD 1 8/16″
RWS Superdome 3 8/16″
RWS Super H Point 2 11/16″
RWS Superpoint 3 15/16
JSB 15.9 grain >5″
Napier Hunter 5″
Beeman Silver Ace >5″
Beeman Kodiak 1 13/16″

Cut out the wind and add a real bench rest (I used a extra firm pillow) and the good groups would likely be under an inch.

Did not test the Kodiak double gold, the jsb 18 grain the eun jin 20 grain, beeman bearcub, crow magnum, silver sting, jsb predator, scorpion lead free, or the Beeman Silver Arrow, as I was out of time for today.

Congrat’s! 😀
Let us know how it does at 50m.!

I went with the Marauder and proceded to wait. June 6 I put the order in from
http://www.kitterytradingpost.com/ for a .22 Marauder for $439.

I picked it up a few days ago.

A quick rundown from use so far. I’m in the process of running a Strait Shooters Sample pack through it at 10 and 50 yards and will have data on that for the yellow forum and here if anyone wants it later who is curious.

It’s freaking super quiet, like you won’t here it past 25 yards quiet. The pellets hitting anything are louder than the rifle. The hammer hitting the valve and the resonance are the loudest thing you here firing.

!0 shot mag works fine. You can single load similar to the talon/condor but you don’t have near the finger room.

It’s heavier by a lot than a disco, and with a scope I consider it kinda heavy for carrying in the woods. Probably weights 8.5-9 pounds with a scope. Disco weighs 5 with iron sights. You will probably get secondary shots because the noise is enough to make something go huh? and look rather than o sh*t and run.

Mine is great fit and finish wise, no defects.

Accuracy so far is .25 inch at 15 yards and waiting on the 50 meter shooting which looks to be promising.

Trigger is really nice, very very smooth pull.

This thing is perfect for shooting in your back yard, it’s extremely quiet.

Condor is next on the list 😉

I sold my Talon and bought a Marauder I like the Marauder alot better.

I love my AA410 and my Talon. The Talon fits a special nitch in the airgunning world being a take down rifle and the ability to change on a whim.

If you don’t really need any of these features then the Marauder is probably a better choice if you are only going to have 1 PCP.

Just don’t call it a Maudie, OK? 😆

That makes you cringe to huh?

Yeah… a pet peeve, I guess. Not only “Maudie”, but just the concept of feeling like you have to give your gun a name. (yeah, cue the “Full Metal Jacket” quotes).

Giving any gun smaller than a Howitzer a female name strikes me as kinda, well… odd.

I know it’s all in good fun, but if you’re going to name it, then go all the way and call it “The Wrath of Thor When He’s Hungover and Out of Coffee” or some other such twaddle, and let everyone know you’re a freak from the get-go. 😆

I never gave you her full name. it’s….
Maudie Redrag on the cotton pony Bitchenandmoaning 😛 😆

So where are you getting this $439 Marauder price???

http://www.kitterytradingpost.com/index.php

They don’t have any in stock so mine was special ordered. $439 was the price they gave me. I was surprised at that price since everyone is selling for 499.

The discovery was 379 with pump.

What you pay up front you get back in multiples.

Lee,
Pick Tim and you wil get a well set-up rifle.
