Does anyone make metal breeches for the airforce guns?

Mines toast, don’t really want another AF breech. Thanks.

I know you didn’t being new sometimes I get carried away and forget you guys have been at this thing for some time I am new but do have experience in the machinist work any good lathes out there for sale? I would love to get one for home use.

Sounds like a good Idea WOK. But Brass or Bronze will take a few milliseconds to get moving. It will slow down the firing cycle. ALU. inside of the Del. Should do just fine. A good way to hold the o ring for the hammer slap mod I would think.

Thanks for the response. Mine will not contact the frame at all so I won’t have to worry about AL on AL galling. The worn breech wasn’t causing leaks but it did feel sloppy, I also use bigger o-rings in mine.

I like Delrin because it is a pretty tough material and does not gall the frame.

Ovaling of the breech at the muzzle end is only a problem for me if it causes a break in the seal of the oring and allows air to pass by.

I for one might try and cut a 45 relief angle on the opening and see if ovaling is still causing a problem.

I figured that’s what you were thinking. Can’t really flip the idea or I’m back to the ovaling problem I had with the factory version. If I remember correctly the muzzle side was ovaled out .003″ bigger than the tank side from wear. I wanted to make one out of Aluminum to offer as a functional upgrade but with a Delrin core it wouldn’t really offer any advantage over stock.

Any particular reason for being a fan of the Delrin? If you know any disadvantages of Aluminum please fill me in before I sell everyone a crappy breech. 😕

I don’t understand what the advantage of having the Delrin on the outside would be? I don’t think I mentioned it before, but the binding issues I was having was from the breech/barrel, not breech/frame. There was no contact to the frame at all. Pablouk, warned me I’d have this problem when he first saw my old breech as he’d already been through the same ordeal with 6061. I was a denier until l I experienced it for myself lol.

Does anyone have any experience with different breech weights? I’m thinking more weight than necessary will be detrimental to velocity but I was wrong once before haha.

Holy fark Lang! Very interesting idea you have there, that’s thinking outside the box. Nice job. I don’t want to resort to a coating to fix the galling issues I was having so I found a different grade material. I don’t care what color people choose to paint them though lol.

It’s just a different alloy offered by Alcoa specifically engineered for wear resistance in high cycle parts like master cylinders & brake caliper pistons, etc. without the need for anodizing.

Didn’t mean to beat up on your Teflon idea. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about brainstorming.

Well, not exactly. The original one had a thinner shaft, so it could use the standard top slot. I milled the slot in the side because it simplified the work on the breech, allowed it to be massively stronger, and looks good. 🙂

I’m a bit puzzled about all the “spray the alu block with black stuff so it’ll slide easier”. Isn’t the point of an alu breech to make it look nice (silver instead of black)? Anyway, I got around that problem by making a three-layer breech. Delrin core, alu filling, delrin jacket (with slots milled in it to expose a nice bit of alu). Looks well trick. Bastard to make though.

This one has the cocking-knob shaft all the way through the breech, and fits the top-slot. It’s a two-layer and the alu core stuck on the barrel pretty badly:
