I’m not sure how long I’ve had mine. It says no post 2004 Marlins. I’ll bet I have had it just about that long. I bought them within the first 6 months that they came out. I do know that they have upgraded the triggers. So it may work!

My dad had one of those. I never did shoot it, I think my oldest brother has it now.
All I know about the gun was it was confiscated from a poacher, and my Dad was Mayor at the time. He tended to bring home some neat stuff in those years.

seems everyone is getting great groups with the .17. could it be the ammo is made on newer machines or the new polimer tipped pills ? years ago say 1969-70 i had one of the new 5 mm remington rimfire. probably the most accurate rifle ive ever had. but they had a problem with the base next to the rim buldged out upon fireing. then the ammo got real pricy and hard to find me ill take the .17 in hmr or mach 2 any time. any one remember the 5 mm?

I’ve tried several of the loadings avaliable for the .17. The Poly tiped ones shoot fairly well. And perform well on game. However, Around 3/4″ to 1″ is the best I can get them to do.
The CCI-TNT non Poly tip is the real tack driver for my gun. 😀

I have 3 two savages and a marlin none of mine do better than an inch or so at 100 yards. I thought that was great for the price but 1/4 inch sign me up. I have read a ton of posts with guys getting great groups and I just cannot get it done! I have been shooting for 40 + years before you start! LOL I get awesome muzzleloader groups, pretty good center fire groups 1-1/2 ” at 100 yards I cannot get a good 17hmr damimit!
I dont tend to rush too much but when i have it i will post some pics. I need the police to allow me to get one first 👿

My HMR is a 23″ barrel for my TC Contender, its a custom from Bulberry.
Like Knifemakers, mine shoots 1/4″ groups quite easily.
If I were to recommend a rifle, it might be a Savage bull barrel with the new trigger. My father in law bought one that shoots groups hard to measure. The target he showed me looks like one bullet hole.
Yes I was Steve. Had I realized what I had, I would have gone right back and bought more! They were selling the .17 HMR for 10.00 less than the .22 LR. WooHoo!
Several of my buddies bought the rest of the ones for sale at W/W here at the time. Every one of them were top notch in the Accuracy.
The triggers sucked though. I re-worked the trigger, and it is super crisp and short. Probably under a pound. I don’t have a trigger scale. Problem is, with the design they use, you have to cock it very slowly or it won’t cock. When you fire the gun, you can’t cycle the bolt fast to the rear either. The bolt will simply slide right out the back of the action.
I found this out the hard way when trying to get a quick follow up shot on a Coyote. The bolt landed about 10 feet behind me. This doesn’t happen if you don’t work the sear though. I understand they had a recall on the triggers, but since I played with it, they probably wouldn’t touch it.and it just shoots too good to risk replacing the gun with another one.
Thanks for the clarification Mike, I didn’t realize that Marlin was using anything other than their microgroove barrells. I guess that I should read more than talk. 😀 Were you lucky enough to get one?
Who has aftermarket trigger groups for the Marlin?
Micro rifling? Yes and no.
What Marling first came out with the HMR, they were having problems with the micro rifling they have always used in their .22’s. They were developing micro cracks in such small bores.
Wally world was going to cancel their contract. What to do?
I understand that they contacted Douglas gun bbl’s, and struck a deal.
The first offerings were Douglas air Gage match bbl.s when sold at wally World. To top it off. Wally world screwed up the price of the guns. The sold for a crap load under the retail they were supposed to be marked.
Look at your bore. The Douglas Bbl.s have 4 lands and groves instead of the many lands and groves of the micro button bbl.s normally seen in marlin bbl,s.
Wally World sold them just under the price of the Bbl’s themselves!
If you are lucky enough to find one of these, they are screaming accurate!

Ditto. I like Marlin’s. The triggers aren’t bad, but aren’t great. If you don’t like it, stick in an aftermarket replacement. You end up with a gun as accurate as any other and you’ve come out a lot cheaper.
The marlin’s have microgroove rifling that is known for accuracy. If it were me, I’d buy a stainless steel, laminated stocked version:
