Q:

Short & Quiet

Hello…

I need some advise on a Talon build…. I’m trying to build a talon ss that is the shortest possible with a small shroud maybe, that can fit in a backpack for hunting in the woods… It has to be real quiet… Any suggestions? Would a Talon SS be a good choice for something like this? Should I go in another direction?

Any help or suggestion would be helpful…

Thank you,

Drewll

zombiehead, that picture of the talon looks nice and small, now only if they would sell a smaller tank, that would be want I am looking for, small and compact,

to original poster:…sorry for the mis info on the vendor for this thread…been away for a while did not know..I had similar situation happen to me on the yellow with and off-shore individual with shaky M/O..took tons of time to make good and got about 85% of my money back in a barter….did a query and shocked to see what seemed to be a stand up person…….deal with airhog or a “brick and mortar” dealer….to be safe..good luck with your project!!!!

I have a 177 SS with 12″ stock LW barrel and opted for the Don G (shrpshotr28 here on the TSS forum) Shroud which allows enough clearance into the stock shroud/frame from the muzzle end. It only adds around 2.25 inches of extra length to the already sub carbine sized gun and sits back maybe 4 to 5 inches into the frame. If you cut back the factory Shroud/frame keep in mind barrel clearance to the back end for your shroud. If you opt to chop you might need to have something more like the Airhog style shroud moderator that sticks out of the gun and then have a longer gun than you opted for. I would contact Don G and leave your TSS alone……He can even cut barrels for condor owners and keep the size near stock ….My gun is as loud as a Red Ryder BB gun… .177 is a tad quieter than .22 caliber however…

How long is your barrel? You got me thinking of the Talon frame now instead of my SS frame. Who did your shroud and how long and effective is it? I really want an EDgun but am trying to keep my SS.

My barrel is 13 1/2 inches and the shroud is 4 inches past the end of the frame … the internals are from a delrin rod that I drilled and shaved on 2 sides and it works quite well. The rod is 3 inches long inside the tube.

The front bushing is drilled and so is the frame to relieve back pressure … I couldn’t believe that it was as quiet as it is 🙂

12″ barrel, GTBJay shroud, extends 3″ past frame, vented bushings and frame myself. Its pretty quiet esp. at that much power. All I add to a factory gun was the Selph valve and Condor hammer weight, it has the stock hammer spring too.

I’m no fan of that Condor 2 piece hammer weight … my chronograph tells the story with shot to shot variations … I use one piece hammers and was getting 51.8 fpe with a 75 gram and just got a 90 gram from Tony to boost it some more .. I’ll have to look into that Selph valve 🙂

Stepping outside of the box for a moment, I suppose you could get a standard Talon, a TSS endcap and then cut the barrel down to fit inside the frame. It would look something like this:

Pulaskius, your compact gun is what inspired me to get an SS. Mine is now putting out 42 fpe with a 12″ barrel in .22 cal. with a Selph valve.

Glad to hear it !! I am trying to pump mine up to 70 fpe with a new hammer .. will post results soon 🙂
