Q:

What caliper to use?

What caliper do you use to measure the TH setting. I have digital one that I bought at Harbor Freight but the tips of the caliper with which you measure don’t accuratly fit between TH and the base. I see you guys post pretty accurate numbers like 0.88 or 0.86.
Picture of one would be nice.
Thank you

platinum thing is intresting, i work on cars a lot and did not know about nitrous and platinum, but i wonder what happens that causes it, but man you guys must have an assload of money you have air rifles witch is an expensive hobby, and race cars. what do you do? pimp out your wives?

Well, I kind of guessed that it was approximate but I was not saticfied with how my caliper worked. I could never really see exactly what the measurment was. But now, you guys pointed me out to the right tool and I think the difficulty is solved.
Thank you everyone once again!

How accurate do you need ?? check it, shoot it , adjust it , check it, shoot it adjust it. It does not have to be .076112344. its shoots better with a .075 feeler guage snuggly fit period. Does not matter if its actually a .0749932 feeler guage. We are talking aproximate here.

Yep, don’t mess with platinum. I tried them with nitrous–DON’T use them with N2o. They burn up instantly! 😆

Platnium tips might get messed up.

Back in the day, just about ever man had a set of feeler gages t set the points in the car. Now days, no one knows how to use any thing but a key board. Man, I’m getting old! 🙁 At least “Some” of my calipers are digital. 😀 😉 )

I TRIED to set the gap on my spark plugs and the manual said DONT 😯

you can use any thing for the gap set up then measure with the mics. paper or what ever. if you dont have the feeler gauges yet.

THank you guys for the help.
Actually I never knew of such a thing as feeler gauge. Now I know!!!
Gonna go and buy me one.

If you buy a cheap set of feeler gauges you might find out they are not that accurate as to what is printed on them.

So use the feeler gauges to fill the space and then use a micrometer or calipers to measure the stack of feeler gauge.

You might be surprise how much off some feeler gauges are off.
