The Combro I have reads within 3 fps of my Gamma Chrony.

I was annoyed by having to press the button after each shot… but when your not using a computer you have to shift positions to look after each shot anyway to see what the reading is.

I just always use my Laptop with it now and it works fine.

Or you can do as DKOwen suggested and place a small jumper (from he back of a hard drive would work I think) on two of the pins so it doesn’t change anything.

I could never be bothered with the extra features on my chrony and just let an Excell spreadsheet calculate everything after I dump the data into it so theres no change there for me.

Quick Excell tutorial,

Make some boxes with some data such as date shot, gun used, power level, pellet type, weight etc.

Make 3 Columns a few rows and columns off from the right (so you have space to add more data later – You can always cut and paste the entire thing to clean it up when finished).

First is Shot number, second Velocity and third is FPE

In the Shot number write 1, then the column below that right 2. Then click and select both boxes. There will be a little black box at the bottom right of the box you drew – drag that down and the numbers will autofill in sequence – just drag and stop where you usually shoot up too.

Any box that will contain number’s you enter should have its format changes to number – select the row/column of data, right click, select format cells and then change the category to number’s.

The velocity box is just for your own data and is left blank until you shoot..

FPE box calculates the FPE from the pellet weight you enter in another box somewhere.

“=(Pellet Weight*Velocity*Velocity)/450240”

Which in my spreadsheet is something like – =(C5*F3*F3)/450240 Just enter the right coordinates for your data. I copy that to the next row down and correct the data and then do the select, drag and drop method explained about to auto fill the other rows.

These is the other data strings I use – Just select the box you want the data to appear in and start typing, once you hit the ( it will let you select a series of boxes, just select all the velocity numbers you entered.

Standard Deviation
=STDEV(

Fastest
=MAX(

Slowest
=MIN(

Spread is just typed in and then enter coordinates of the two boxes that contain your highest and lowest velocity (from above).

If it weren’t for the lighting the Chrony would be great. They did introduce a led lighting system that sits on the screens… Fuck, that and the printer (writing numbers down is so last century) and i’m in close to the Oehler… 😯

Mam, how does it fit on the bull like barrel of the Ed? Did you have to rig something?

I’m not buying the 1% from absolute with the Combro.

I’d bet dollars to doughnuts that if you used a truly professional chrono you would get a very different reading than the Combro…

Oehler’s accuracy with their $500 chrono is around 0.5% with the timing screens at 12″ apart (which is the least accurate way of measuring with their system). With the screens at 96″ apart (best accuracy) the error will be 0.1%.

Chrony says it is within 0.5%, which is better than the Crombro and the same as the Oehler, do I believe it… Not one bit.

But it is interesting that people are trusting a machine that states it is less accurate than the Shooting Chrony over the Chrony… 😕

Are we sure the pellets are going in the correct end? 😆

I bought a chrony… but have no real intent to use it extensively, so perhaps you can send me a few pictures of the Combro. It may serve my needs better than what I have.

The one I have is still in the box and I don’t know exactly what it does, but I bought it from PA, so they have some details on what it is capable of.

It is a “Shooting Chrony F1”, it does SD and ES, and several other functions too numerous to mention. It cost many hundreds of dollars and is very heavy…causing shipping expenses to soar.

I might consider a trade. I’m a simple man, with simple needs. The Combro might do what I want without the hassle of buttons, menus, and electricity….and potential of shooting myself in the eye in a moment of confusion.

Unfortunately, I’m also very greedy and self-serving.

My palm shall have to be heavily greased for this exchange, and to make up for the fact that my chrony is brand new, in the box, untouched by human hands. Yours is a heavily used model…who knows what was on your fingers when you were using it!
