OHHHHH SSSSSHIT… π³
well, i looked around and managed to find the proper drill bit, #43 – .089 (thanks again synopsys), and very carefully (or so i tought) i drilled those little fuckers (the screws) away, and TH started to turn nicely again. when i took it completely out from the stem, my face changed from that of satisfaction, to a mixture of rage, horror and frustration.
ΒΏCan you guess why?
Yep, i discovered that the drilling on one of the holes went a little too far, and i made a hole on the side of the goddam stem. π
I put the stem back in the tank, put some red loktite on the threads, and adjusted the TH to 0.09, after a couple of hours i took a few shots, and the rifle seems to be shooting fine, luckily for me there doesnt seem to be any air leaking from the hole on the stem. Of course, the holes on the TH dont “match” the hole on the stem.
So i guess i could say that the problem has been solved, and i guess i could fill the holes on the TH with some epoxy or something (for cosmetic reasons, there doesnt seem to be any performance issues with the holes), but being that i am a meticulous mother fucker, i dont like my guns havin holes epoxy patches and shit π so tomorrow, ill take the stem off the valve without altering the TH adjustment, take it to a workshop, and ask them to make me a brand new, custom made, one piece tophat & stem part.
no more fucking arround with shitty little screws.
Ill take some bragging pics of my one piece TH when i get it.
1/16 should do the trick, just checked it out.
Thanks Synopsys π ill go buy it today.
dwalk:
Getin a new TH/stem from AF is out of the question for me, cause i dont live in the US, shipping would be very expensive, and take weeks (plus honestly i cant afford it right now, i am flat broke π³ )
i tought about enlarging the existing holes on the TH instead of making new ones, and if the original holes were made in the center of the TH it would be possible, but the holes are VERY close to the edge of the TH. And if i attempt to make those holes wider, i will most likely make a cut on the side of it. Thats why i would need to make new holes wich are centered.
And besides, im considering taking WOKs advice and just adjust it one more time, and then red-loktite the little shit.
the TH is IN the valve stem, so right now the priority is getting those screws out (without damagin the stem or anything) so i can adjust it.
thanks for your help guys.
just drill it larger and tap in the 1/16″ Allen you were thinking about…
unless you have a really steady hand or a mill/drill press with capability to hold the TH very securely, it’ll be difficult to use an EZ out or grind it out.
if it’s OFF OF the valve stem, try screwing it all the way thru…it would just drop out.
why not purchase an extra TH from AF and try to engineer a better set up than the standard grub screws? where it is simple, ez to access and adjust, it’s not really very secure and reliable is it? darn screws are so diminutive and delicate they damage very easily.
there’s gotta be a better way… π
#43 0.089″ or 2.261mm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drill_bit_sizes#Drill_Bit_Conversion_Table
im havin trouble locating a “#43” drill bit. guy at the HW store said they sell by diameter on mm or inches.
Anyone know the equiv. in mm or inches?
To release the red locktite all you have to do is put a lighter to it and then readjust when needed.
π π π I would stop fucking with it, if it woud stop fucking with me! π
with the way my TH was, i had very nice numbers, 30+ shots at 40+ FPE with an ES of less than 50fps, but even with those “great numbers”, i had a problem of my POI walking horizontally for about 1″, and as discused here
http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11972
i had to fuck with it to see if the POI shift was due to the TH hitting the valve face. So i turned the TH open a bit, and the only result was my grouping goin to shit π
So i had to turn it back to where it was (again)
π
Walk you really need to get to the point sorry just couldn’t resist!!! LOL!! Eddie
Once you have your top hat set stop fucking with it. π

thanks WOK, it sound like a nice idea, the thing is i want to keep the ability to adjust the TH if needed, and i figure that applying red loktite would pretty much make this imposible no?
ne way, i been a little short on cash these days, so i havent bought the necesary drill bit, i plan to do the “surgery” sometime next week.
thanks!
You know, im tired of having trouble with those shitty little screws. Ill use the drill bit on the dremmel to carefully take out / destroy the little fuckers, then ill fill in the holes on the top hat (the holes where screws go) with epoxy or something, and ill make new holes on it. suitable to use larger screws, im thinking screws with a 1/16″ allen head.
what you think? good idea?
wish me luck with my “TH surgery” π
Once you get it set where you want just red locktite it on. Then you do not even need the set screws.
thanks guys, so a #43 drill bit is the proper size for the job?

id use a left hand drill…get a #43 left handed drill bit and us a hand drill that u can run in reverse SLOWLY so that if it can grab it might just back out or worse case senario is u will just have to case the tapped hole to get the last little bits out…just be careful not to drill thru the valve stem
Take a dremel tool and carefully grind it out.

Sorry to hear that. That is why I recommended a dremel to grind it out.
A one piece will be nice
