Need help with balistics on 22 call
This morning I shot 5 crows . 2 from the roof line at 86 yds . 2from the wire at 71 and 73 yds all in the back or chest all fell dead on the ground. Shot crow @ 5 at 55 yds right between the wings he hoped off about 3 yds closer put shot #2 through his chest crossways still hoping shot #3 in the neck . Now he flops for 2 or 3 min. What give? Did i not deliver energy on target ? Or mabey it was a new hybred super crow .
I usly shoot them with my 177 b50 ft rig through the head but its apart for leaks again so i grabed my AA s410 sidelever it shoot 18.1 grn JSBs at 720ish . I dont get it long shots died short shot toke 3 pellets all well placed ??? Need help for my tiny brain. Thanks .[/img]

I’ve shot dove with a 20 gauge and seen them drop instantly, delayed drop, walk off to die, or pretend to be hit and fly off. btw. I follow the ‘walk off’ and ensure they do no suffer
Shot placement, physiology, etc. etc. You may not have hit a vital on some of the shots. Have you tried hitting artificial targets at those ranges and elevations to see where you gun is sighted?
The biggest learning curve for me was ensuring the bolt is pulled into the top hat with no slack. That ‘play’ is the biggest variable concerning velocity for me.
I have always used match pellets for hunting with the 177.,alot more impact.
But the 22 condor will not shoot them as accurate as the round nose pellets above 800 fps.
I like the gamo hunter pellet, it seem to mushroom real good for nice impact. and shoots good to 900fps or so. It is holow inside to the tip,so it mushrooms easier in light game.
The croossman hollow points are very accurate in my condor all the way up to 1050 ,but they do not have the impact of the gamo hunter or RWS hollow point.i have taken a few squirels with these with shoulder hits and they droped straight down.
The Rws hollow point seems to take game way better but i cant shoot them over 800fps with peak accuracy.Pretty much everthing that i have hit with them has dropped straight down and no movement after.and they are very accurate out to tested 50 yards ,
Just another reason to get a .25 when I can.
I’ve heard that the Jerry Slugs are near enough flat nosed, and heavy, and they fly good….. 😆

Instinct would tell you that a wad cutter would not be accurate due to the fact the pellet has a leading profile the same as a brick! I’ve never shot them long range, but out to 20 meters they perform very well. I doubt they could do any long range work as areodynamics don’t much like flat faces. That said, a heavy wadcutter, with a nice long tail to stabilise and keep the weight forward, hollowed out deep so lots of the pellet engages the rifling could fly well and further, just not sure how far, and what energy would be left for the target…

Pab. why is it someone doesn’t make a wadcutter (flatnosed) HEAVY pellet? Like the weight of a Kod. 30Gr. but with a flat nose. Would accuracy suck?

My .25 Barracudas hit real hard. So frickin’ hard they pass through the rabbit even at 100 yards and it has a chance to get back to its warren to die.
I shot one in the middle of the field, right through the chest, and it ran about 80 yards towards its warren before collapsing. Upon inspection, it was a good shot in the vitals area… I’m now testing the JSB Kings and hope to get some hunting with them as soon as I’ve got the rifle tuned to them. They have a bigger frontal surface area so I’m hoping for a little more ‘smackdown’ !!
And yes, the .25 looks absurdly bigger tahn the .22… 😆
My friend has a .25 and I have a .22. I will admit the .25 does hit ALOT harder, although a squirrel shot in the chest/lungs/heart area STILL makes it to his burrow if he’s close by. The thing I can’t believe….how much bigger the .25 Kodiak looks next to the .22 Kod. 😯
