.410 shotgun condor !!!
well while i was at work tonight i was in the freezer for 11 hours and i have a lot of time on my hands to think and shit
well i had an idea i thought is it possible to make a 410 shotgun condor?
my idea is get a .410 barrel fixed or screw in choke dont matter
take an airforce barrel cut it off just past where the breech rides weld the 410 barrel onto the airforce stub and weld it true
bore out the airforce stub for max flo
make a set of barrel bushings for the barrel
load it like a muzzleoader use a 410 wad pour in shot and then a shot holding wad ontop of the load “ram” it down the barrel like you would do to a muzzle loader and then ur ready
would this possiblyt work?
is there a flaw i am missing somewheres?
if the barrel is to large for the airforce stub a bushing could be made that would be a perfect match for both barrel and stub to get a perfectly trued aligntment and then put the bead of weld to secure it in
let me hear your thoughts on this guys if it is possible i may have to start looking for a 410 barrel and have this thing put together

what weight of shot would you use? and what velocity can you achieve with that weight?
try getting some seamless hydraulic tubing it should be cheap to exparament with
I use mainly #7 shot but that’s only because I don’t have any #6. I also use the #7 in combination with .25 (#3 buck I think) ball and that makes a pretty dense load, took a squirrel with that last year.
The only use for an air shotgun would be birds on the wing, and at very close ranges as Jerry said 20 yds maybe 30 yds if your lucky. Actualy Jerry a 410 shotgun isnt effective after 20 to 30 metres so youve done very well if your air shotgun can do that. What shot weight are you firing? and what size pellets? And what Velocity can you achieve with a given shot weight?
Choking the barell could make the gun more effective at longer ranges, but also different shot sizes and weights would help there too. I am an avid shotgun shooter, and for quail size birds number 10 or 11 shot would be effective upto 25 metres if using 1/2 ounce, pretty much a standard 410 or 28 gauge load. It would be a fun gun, but not really that effective, a challenge certianly.
Id love to try it out one day, even just to shoot sparrows in flight in the back yard !

Trust me, there will be a much better sporting chance given to any squirrel being hunted with an air shotgun! I’ve gat a actual, viable air shotgun and I can tell you without a doubt that it is far easier to shoot those guys at 40-80 yards with the rifle than to sneak up on them where the shotgun will be effective! Really, the air shotgun keeps coming up every now and then as a neat idea (like it’s new) but it just is not as effective as an accurate air rifle. My gun which makes 400+ FPE as a slug gun is only effective out to 30 yards on squirrel I’d estimate. It is fun to shoot and more effective on pest birds but gives away advantage to the tree rats.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the choke. A lot of guys will tell you that the only things a choke does is slow the wad to keep it from interfering with the shot. You also have to figure out how to load the shot. Muzzle loading will not be compatible with a choke unless you screw the choke on after loading. I advise you to start with an unchoked barrel and have a piece of tube(barrel) about an inch long available for making cartridges. I’ll talk you through it if you get to the point of a fitted barrel. There are tricks to making the cartridges that allow far more control over shot pattern than a simple choke does.
the problem with strait tube is there is no choke in it
the shot would rapidly open as does a gamo vipershotgun

Would there be a danger in using a mild steel tube as a shotgun barrell? There isnt that much pressure to burst a steel or Aluminium tube is there?
