Air Ranger .25 owners please help
Could someone please post or PM me a shot string of an Air Ranger .25 so I can make a decision. I just called AoA to order one but they are out of stock, expecting the next shipment any day. While I had them on the phone, the guy decides to REALLY confuse my by telling me that he is “blowing out” his remaining stock of standared Air Wolf .25’s for $1795! Plus the free Hawke scope. That’s like a $700 savings. I told him to let me ponder on it a bit befor I decide. The Air Wolf looks a little under powered to me in .25 though.

My head is about to explode!
also keep in mind that a 25g .22 pellet will be longer than the same grain .25 pellet. the longer pellet will be affected by the wind more hence the .25 will most times be less affected by the wind.
im assuming that in the chrony numbers from AOA in my earlier post that the 933 number was the average of the string if that is the case its shooting 31g kodiaks at 59.94 fpe thats a bit more than 44 fpe but like they say there all a little different. my box the wolf came in said 40 fpe but according to the chrony numbers they sent with the gun it is getting quite a bit more. even with 25.4 g jsb it would be getting 49.9 fpe. i guess i need to buy a chronograph so i know the real deal. im just going by the chrony slip that was in the box and it reads just as its written above.
if any chrony gurus would care to deciepher it i would be delighted to know what those numbers mean
im sure youll be happy with any daystate u purchase though as long as its not an MVT.

Keep in mind, a 25gr pellet is just that. It doesnt matter if it’s a .22 cal 25gr or a .25cal 25gr. It’s still going to have the same energy as long as the velocity is the same. Unfortunatly, the .22 25gr Monsters just suck.

999-+ Highest speed shot
815– Lowest speed shot
184-E Extreme spread
933-M Average velocity
083-S Standard deviation
Ok. I had some numbers mixed up. My brain is scrambled at this point. There are two things that I am absolutly sure of: 1st) 38fpe is more than enough to stop a rabbit in its tracks. 2) That video of Varminter with the CD’s at 70 yds is just incredable.
MCT .22 fits the bill.
I would post a WTB add ,for a 80 fpe airranger in .223.37 gr solid slug, long range hammer.Highpowerd .25 driven past 60 fpe unstable .One down fall ammo expensive, but you can still use the 10 shot mag. or modify the .22 mag .223 mags. are impossible to get,had them on backorder w/ AOA & PAG ,OVER 8 MONTHS BIG ZERO! .Or get a.25 cal. rapid 60fpe would be the max.
I agree that in .25 you’d be better off with the regular Airwolf like Ken mentioned. The MCT in .25 would not be powerful enough for you. It’ll be very consistent and more so than the Airwolf but the Airwolf is consistent enough and you’ll get the higher power output due to the lack of something similar to a regulator. I don’t know this first hand but it makes sense. The Airwolf trigger is sure hard to pass up!
even at the lower velocity the .25 wolf will put more energy on the target at seventy yards than the mtc 22.wolf because of the regulation in the mtc. the 50fpe ranger in .25 will put more energy down range than the .25 wolf but will suffer in the shot count and you dont have the electronic goodness.

It does exist or did exist. Tachdriver has one and he likes it but I don’t think he’s caught up in the power numbers either.
Do not waste your money on the 25.4 gr JSB Monster pellets! Trust me on this. I speak from experience. I have owned the .22 MCT and tried the Monsters. They are absolutely terrible in the Airwolf! Unless it’s a close shot, good luck hitting what you aim for! At my 70 yard test, I can’t even call the results a group because it was more like a spray from a shotgun! Stick with the JSB 18.1 or the H&N Barracuda Match 21.14.
If you do get a .25 Airwolf or Airwolf MCT, I recommend the JSB 25.4 gr Exact King. I hate to disappoint you but the .25 MCT will only give you 45 fpe max and that’s if you’re using heavier pellets. I’ve seen some people post that they were only getting 38 fpe with their .25 MCT. Remember that it’s only rated at 40 fpe which is also what the .22 MCT is rated. Don’t beleive what people who sell the rifle tell you when it comes to this stuff. Listen to the people that have used the product and are not trying to make a sale. I was told the JSB Monsters would shoot accurately when I asked about them but they were a mess just like everyone else who has tried them out of their Airwolf. It’s a shame because the consistency I got out of them was impressive.
Just to give you an example of the misinformation that’s out there, here is my 80 shot string using the JSB monster 25.4 grain in .22 out of the MCT. The consistency was very impressive and I was very excited to test them in actual shooting but they were so inaccurate that the can of pellets would be better used as a paper weight. Also notice that the power is not even close to the 45+ fpe you mentioned from the .22 MCT. It’s more like 37+ and if you reduced the shots to reduce the power curve, you’d still be lucky to go over 40 fpe. Mine shot these pellets at an average of 37.73 fpe.
I would personally buy the Airwolf or MCT in .22 and if you must have .25 get the Ranger or a .25 Rapid MKII. The Rapid can easily be made to shoot 60 fpe and they get very close to a true 50 fpe from the factory. My .25 Ranger puts out just under 48 fpe using the 31 grain H&N (Kodiaks).
The trigger on the Air Ranger is not even in the same ballpark as the Airwolf trigger. The Airwolf/MCT trigger is sooo much nicer. The bolt is also very easy to pull back and cock on the AW. It is noticably harder but still ok on the AR. If you don’t mind a very low shot count, there is always the 80 fpe .25 Air Ranger but you’ll only get around 15 shots per fill. Stick with the .22 MCT if you want the best performance when it comes to consistency and accuracy. If you must have the power, get the .25 Air Ranger or the Rapid MKII.

It doesn’t exist. I was just saying that it would be a perfect solution to my problem if it did.
you mean .22 cal MCT?, I can’t find the MCT with .25 cal from AoA.
I stand corrected. I was thinking of the Ranger in .22 (50 fpe gun). And I agree about the 25gr Monsters 🙁 . So whats the answer? .25cal MCT that shoots 31gr H&N at 850ps? OR .25 Ranger w/electronic firing? Either one would do nicely 😉
Well, not really. First, I haven’t seen a .22 MCT shoot above 38 fpe. Now add to the problems we are all having with the wolf and the 25 gr. .22. Seems they don’t do well in the accuracy dept with the 25 gr. .22 at all. 😥
I had a feeling the JSB .25 in 25 gr. would be the ticket in the Wolf MTC! 😉 😀
Mike
That would be perfect but the shot string that AoA has posted up for that gun shows it sending 31gr Kodiacs around 800fps. Thats only 44fpe. Just not very impressive. I know 44fpe is nothing to sneeze at but the MCT gets the same if not more with a .22. I regularly take shots at rabits from 65 – 85 yds and that slower moving shot from the .25 wolf just seems like it would drop an awfull lot. Sure the fps will increase if you use the 25gr JSB’s but if your going to be shooting a 25gr, you may be better off just getting the MCT in .22 that will spit out 25.4 gr Monsters at 900+ fps at appr. 46-48fpe.
