Used talon questions.
New dog in the yard ya’ll, I’ve been sniffin around for a little while and figured I mite as well register so I can ask a few questions.
For the last couple years I’ve had a urge for a good air rifle to hunt with and discovered the pre charge guns, WOW ! great idea, gotta have one but which one ?
Seems I read that Talon is ( at the time) the only American made PCP made, so I figured that I would go with the home team, then after gettin this here “puter” I found this site and read about the things you can do with them and it sealed the deal.
Question ya’ll,,, what would be a fair price for a used Talon ( prefer a condor) and wher’s a likely place to find one ???
Oh yea, anything I need to be on the look out for ? maybe something I need to ask a buyer to keep from windin up with a piece of junk.

Thanx again ya’ll, serious food for thought, I just want something for squirrel hunt with (and kill a few feral beer cans), the state has sevral places open to hunting but it’s shot gun only, but this year they opened it up to pellet rifles and this gave me the perfect excuse to buy one, but I want a good one ( hence the interest in the talon ).
The city of Chattanooga has a growing problem with coyotes and rumor has it as long as you use a air rifle you can hunt them ( and yet another reason) but I repeat RUMOR, I havent checked into it yet, but the coyotes are ther this I know, I’ve seen sevral ran over on the interstae that runs thru town.
rod3dr, actually I live about 60 miles west of Chattanooga , I aint lettin those years I spent in fifth grade go to waste, I dont wont ta sound like I’m braggin but a good education just shines thru. ( but country as corn bread I am, redneck or what ever, but I’ve never dated my kin folk and still have most of my teeth.)

I’ve seen several Talons and TalonSS on that “network54” link…..LOADS of new guns constantly come up!!! I check it 2-3 times a day, every day.

I have a TSS, and I gotta say that of all my airguns (currently 5) it would be the very LAST one I’d part with, for any reason!! No shit, it is a truly awesome air gun..Hell, just look at a picture of one!!! YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT …so do it!

Yeah no shit! Like the Talon SS that just popped up…….someone please buy it before I do. This would be a great rifle to start with Appalachian.

if i were to get another AF rifle it would be the Condor.
i have a stone stock, factory Talon in .22 cal and I’m quite satisfied with it.
i made my own ‘shroud’ and did some cosmetic changes like the trigger guard and forearm. for personal taste and to add a Harris bi-pod. be sure to check with your local gendarmes as to the legality of a ‘shrouded’ air rifle, too.
with a chronograph, experimenting with pellets and making some minor adjustments it is hard hitting, accurate, to nearly the extreme level. not many air rifles in the ‘up to .22 caliber’ are capable of generating as much power as are the AF series of rifles.
like the others have said…it’s a very versatile platform that is limited to your imagination.
You can pick up a used tank, maybe from that scuba shop you mentioned, and with the af scuba clamp, you will be way under what you would pay for a absolutely worthless af pump.
You will get a 3000psi fill the first time and less each time you fill, by about 50 to 75 psi.
The 4500psi tanks are better, you get a vast amount of more fills, but they cost three to four times as much, and you may not have a place to fill them.
Best of both worlds is a scuba tank and a hill pump to top it off with.
I have two scuba tanks, one I fill from about 2000 psi, and then use the other to top off the tank. You can also cascade them by hooking two tanks together.
Like Synopsys said on the CO2, it is a warm enviroment set up, in the Condor it does about 600 FPS, but you get a lot of shots, hundreds of them and it is accurate as hell.
Your going t have a lot of fun playing with all these options.

Although you can’t go wrong with a TalonSS, if you want compact and don’t care about the noise the Talon is the way to go.
I got the TalonSS in .177 and it now exists as a Talondor .25 24″ barrel. Meaning I have the Condor valve and hammer weight in a TalonSS frame… I like the extra scope rail support on the Condor personally. Other than that the parts can all be interchanged between rifles…
So really you are picking your frame and the initial barrel and tank/valve combo… 😉
Co2 is temp sensitive and is reduced power compared to hpa. The benefit is that it can be regulated to produce a really consistent shot velocity and decent shot count. Although the regulators are fussy from what I have read. Use HPA get a tank and don’t look back. 😀 Don’t buy the AF pump (although mine has not failed). 😯
Gotcha, I’ve been diggin around in the classifieds and it suprised me at the Talons and parts for sale.
Just out of curiosity do you think it mite be a good ides to find a scuba tank (or ???) for sale to fill this monster before I take the plunge on one ? Thers a diving center not to far from here that should be able to fill them,also whats the deal with using co2 ?
The Talon does not have the versatility that the talon ss or the Condor have, in that it can’t be made into a talon ss. The frame is shorter.

Hopefully some of our coyotes will move your way west… we got plenty of them out here.
Seems that one can find a used Talon around the $375-425 mark fairly often on the Yellow Classifieds… dont think you’ll stop there though. These are quite addictive guns and the mods for them are quite endless.
