Does anyone here use a 3×9 scope for anything…
…other than hunting? I have found them to be useless for trying to shoot groups. Most of the ones I have are “fixed” and meant for longer ranges to focus clearly…which brings me to my next question (rhetorical, I am not looking to buy one…) is there a 3×9 with an AO?
The reason for this querry is that I really wanted to keep my nikon 3×9 on my new talon SS. It is a very light and well balanced for offhand in the bush…but I also like to shoot some “one hole” groups from time to time, and this scope does not allow me to do that 😡

Joe, Leapers Compact bugbuster is scope with what you want..have used one and liked it very much,,,about $65.00 @ Pyramyd Air..and it’s lightweight!!! Main reason I bought it 🙂 🙂
The Blue Sky series is often compared to Nikon Monarch’s/Bushnell Elite 4200’s/Zeiss Conquests type-scopes. Yea it’s a bit pricey…..I’m sure it could be had with their mil-dot/hunter hold-over reticle but it would surely cost extra.
After experiencing the quality of my Zeiss Conquest 1.8-5.5X38mm (closeout price of $299!), I don’t think I can bring myself to go back to the cheaper scopes. Cheaper scopes have cost me big time in the past (missed shot opportunities on out-of-state hunts at dusk due to poor light gathering, wandering zero, adjustment issues sighting-in, etc.).
Very good point. When relying on an optic for hunting and or self defense…no expense should be spared. My problem is I have a few different carbines and rifles and I like to keep them with optics on them rather than share and rezero…I use them mostly for target shooting, so a descent/yet affordable scope is sufficient.
That 3×9 Nikon has a 100 yard parallex and I wonder why? I am not truly a hunter (at least not yet) and I would think that a parallex setting for lower yardage would be better for a 3×9 hunting scope, no???? Doesn’t that 100 yard parallex mean that it is parallex free at 100?? If so, what further yardage would parallex error occur? These scopes can be quite confusing 😡

At the moment I have a bushnell trophy 3-9×40 with mildot reticle on my edgun. In future I will change it on a better glass.
That sightron looks nice, but I don’t see any reviews about it and it seems a little pricey…although I don’t know much about this brand…it may be a bargain ❓ a mildot reticle might have made me try one out…but it’s hard to get everything you desire in one optic, especially for an “affordable price” 😥

Yes…..looks to be of high quality as well (the Sightron “Blue Sky” series has a good reputation from all I hear). This is what I would put on a pellet gun. I like the manageable size of it.

I had an old 4x bsa scope that I used as a paperweight. For whatever reason, I ended up messing around with the front until I unscrewed something holding the lens out. I then found out that I could rotate something or another and actually adjust parallax.
I don’t remember exactly what I did, this was a while ago. But try playing with it and you may find that you can adjust it. It won’t become an AO, but you might be able to adjust it to 25 yards or something. 🙂 Or you might just break it…. 😆
You are absolutely correct. That is how you adjust the parallax.
Year ago before there were scopes for airgun I had to do that with a Tasco Golden Antler and set it at 40 yds.

I wish someone made a 4-16 or something in that range with AO and but not so big and heavy…but I guess it is all that extra glass that makes em so bulky and heavy after all. I will put my Nighteater back on and sell my 3×9 to my uncle to hunt deer with 👿
Adjust the parallax on that bitch 😀
I was shooting it at 20 yards and I had to keep the mag no higher than around 4.5. This does not make my target picture as “visible” as my 43 year old eyes would prefer. It seems my groups suffer from say 1/8 to 1/4″ up to 1/2 to 3/4″ because of it. I like to have a higher mag to enable me to split my target picture (circle) into four equal parts with my crosshairs. This always helps my groups be the best they can be 🙂
