Grizzly G0704 Mill **IT’S HERE!!!**
Well i’m finally doing it!! I am going to buy a vertical mill and I am stoked!!! 😯
I worked on an Alliant full size Bridgeport knock off a bunch of years back making custom bicycle frames. I have been a wood worker most of my life and I have found that cutting metal on a mill is a calming experience compared to the wood tools.
Good news is that I will be able to make custom stocks for the AF rifles with a single inlet groove for the action. Previously I have been using a table saw and it’s not the best way to do it but it works.
Should be delivered in about a month…
A lathe is next!! 😯 😆

KBC is a great company to buy from.
I’m pretty happy so far. Haven’t done anything serious after a good cleaning and run in (work is pretty crazy right now).
I machined some hdpe and adjusted the backlash. I need to get familiar with everything again, it’s been about ten years since I milled anything.
Got two sets of clamping kits this week and the collet set should be in early next week (thanks WOK for KBC Tools!!!).
I have heard the columns are pretty flexible on these units and the X2 but I don’t plan on doing anything too heavy duty so I am not concerned.
I can almost move it around myself now and i’m pretty out of shape, it’s really really easy with another person. That was the largest factor, well and the table size, for me getting this mill. If I had more room i’d go bigger for sure, I move too much to get something that weights more than 500lbs…
I’m working on inletting the neck and pickups for a couple of electric guitar bodies and have some wood for a test AF stock ready to inlet as well.
I’m sure I will have things good and bad to say soon. 😆

I’m going to have to do some adjusting on the back lash and such. There is no side to side play in the tables. Bummer I have to work right now.
It’s not as heavy as I thought it would be, but I certainly can’t lift it by myself, with a little help it’s not a problem and in a pinch I bet I could get it from a to b..
Of course now I have a mill, but no tooling… 😆 🙁

A friend of mine has a bridgeport and he has a three phase motor hooked up to the 220 single phase power and has a relay and a cap hooked up to it in a box, with the power switch in it that allows the motor to produce the three phase power for it. I’ve seen it work and it’s cool!

Ok, but I have to at least cut ONE piece of metal before the conversion… 😆
I have one project that will be it’s first. AWS Welder sent me a chunk of steel for one of my BP pistols and I have yet to work it since it’s 3/4″ thick… I’m also seriously considering making some custom stocks for some folks here, or at least some pre-inletted blanks for folks to carve their own.
