Q:

Selph valve

Okay so shortly after I purchased the valve I figured I would run into problems eventually with all the talk on this forum. Well eventually is here. I have run into a different problem than everyone else though.

I was going to load my rifle yesterday and when I pushed the breech forward the stem and spring came with the breech out of the valve. I pulled it out and looked at it. From what I remember when I installed it I think the stem screws into a nylon piece at the base of the valve (been a while since I installed it so I may be mistaken). It looks like all the threads pulled out of that nylon piece.

So my question is what the hell do I do now? Is there a way to fix this so it doesnt happen again?

Thanks

No cost sir.
I got one of Brads valves to copy from here.

Thanks Blod! PM me the price and where to send the money.

I’ll make one for it dude.

Pab,

I dont think I will have a problem taking it about. I am just not sure where to get a new stem head or whatever it may be called and not sure how to prevent this from happening again.

Any suggestions where I can find one and a permanent fix?

Thanks!

Selphb strikes again. Useless cvnt.

I too gave him the thumbs up, after our chats at the time about him, so I’m guilty of that too Sean… 😳
He really did seem like a stand up guy based on his actions at the time….

Newbie, if you have a scuba tank then screw the bottle onto the scuba and equalize the pressure. You will hear the seal drop into the bottle. Turn off air and open the bleed valve a tiny amount to empty the AF bottle nice and gentle.

What WOK said 😀 😉

Wlcome back ❗ 😀

Blod

You are always welcome here 😀 Brad really did it to himself and that has nothing to do with you.

The valve seal is threaded on 6-32 and is not a push fit Blod.

I committed to making new stems and still have every intention of doing so.
That little thread is giving me fits as a die cut thread is not accurate enough and to lathe cut them is gonna be tedious 🙂

Great valve design but poorly executed by Selph.
Has great closing feedback and so I would expect it to be the most efficient for the power output of any valve to date.

Walter….

Cheers for that Walt.
I got one here to replace for a chap your side. And that has no thread on.
Just a push fit.

I been keepin a low profile latley cos i been a bit embarrassed over this whole brad polava after i endorsed him and all 😳
Wasn’t sure if id be welcome here any more.
Thanks for pikin up the banner regarding the stems tho’ sir.
I owe you one. Not sure if thers owt i could do for you, but if ther is, it’s there for the askin.
Sean.

Any hoo.
Am back !

Sean, never ever did anyone think ill of you and your efforts!!!!!!

Welcome back man. 🙂

I am still a believer in the valve design just not in the builder and the shyte he foisted off on people.
All he wanted was to make a buck IMNSHO.

Anyways that is what it is. The valve bodies are well made and a bit of rethink on the stems and it will return to its place of glory.

When the breech is sitting on the top hat with spring tension is doesnt move it sits tight against the top hat. When it is cocked and loaded it also pulls all the way back tight against the top hat.

How far can you slide the breech forward when in the ‘home’ position?

When I pull the breech back it totally sits on the tophat touching the base of the tophat. Is that what you mean?

How much space is there from the cocking knob to receiver tube when it is ‘home’?

I think it should be set to the minimum and perhaps nearly zero.

The force of the pressure pulse working on the tophat area is a pretty good pull. So give it less room to act on the threads and all should be good.

Walter….

Does anyone on here make those? or can make me one?

Walter,
If I get another one made of the same material and install what is to stop it from happening again? I really dont shoot my rifle all that much. I am guessing since I have customized it I have only shot it maybe 250 times so that valve stem head failed that quickly.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

My stem is fine it hasnt broken like the others I have seen. It just pulls right out of my valve body. Is there any fix for this?

Thanks for the help all!

You need a new valve head inside the tank.
