new .22xx hpa bottle build with pictures and questions…
I started this build with a stock disco spring, but it proved too weak for my 2000 psi regulator (at least I am thinking that, please correct me if I am wrong, Gurus). The disco spring only gave me 680 fps with 14.3 gr premiers. I also ran into some of the same problems I have experienced in the past with bolt probes. I thnk I might have to change my name to “Mongo” or “Bolt Buster” as I have destroyed four or five during my 22xx ventures. I’m either too strong for my own good, too dumb for my own good, or a combination of the two 😕
I then upgraded to a heavier spring I had . On max I was able to get 960 fps. On minimum it gets 650. I will double check with disco numbers to see what a stock disco gets, as I should be able to get the same energy from mine of not more. (I am running a disco valve with a tranfer port mod {for the time being} I plan on upgrading to a Boss max flow soon).
The problem I found (with many of my 22xx builds) is when I put heavier springs in to raise power, they become too hard to cock. One other thing I noticed is that not all breeches are machined the same when it comes to the bolt handle slot. On this build it would have been nice to have another 1/4″ of slot opening or a bolt probe with more probe sticking out the rear end to aid in cocking. I checked four diffrent bolt probes for reference and no two were exactly alike when it comes to the length of probe rearward of the bolt handle thread. I was able to resolve my problem (temporarily) by inserting a round steel ball in between the bolt probe and the hammer pin to assist in cocking. Not only did this shorten the distance I had to cock the handle back, but it made the heavier spring pre load more manageable.
she was dead accurate at 10 yards in the initial test. I won’t do any distance testing until I get the speed issue resolved to my liking. Anyway, any feedback is welcomed and appreciated.

I wating for a 2240 that I bought for 40.00 that is a factory refurb, today is my 61st birthday and I am hoping it arrives today. So I am starting that madness now.
You guys have infected yet another.
But one thing that I question. Here on the vineyard, I shoot no more than 5 t o10 shots hunting, probably why a Condor works so well for me, then I go up and fill from my two cascaded scuba tanks. I have never run a shot string.
I have adjusted my top hats, and power wheels for the best performance, which to me is velocity and noise level. However, the logic of running llong shot strings and going thru hundreds of pellets, and many tanks of air, for my situation, escapes me quite frankly, other than just messing with the guns we love.
And in that last sentence, perhaps I just answered my own question, is that why you folks get so anal about consistant performance, do you go places that you need that many shots in reality?
Now the only other time I will use these guns and shoot over the 5 to 10 shots, is when I go to eastern Oregon, park the Audi in a alfalfa field and shoot sage rats by the hundreds without moving the car, then I plan on using a long line to my scuba tank, with a quick disconnect when I need to get out of the car to check the results of a shot.
I wonder if the diminshing returns are worth the use of all that air and lead, does it really ever pencil out?

capable of and how much I can get out of it…. And I get to shoot
thousands of rounds a month doing it.. That is a big plus too….

I was PERFECTLY happy with my flow-through bolt probe, my Boss 12gr valve, and 14″ barrel.
Now I’m NOT happy.
I see now that I need the Boss Max Flow valve and an HPA air tank on my Crosman Custom Shop 2300.
Can you perverts give me some sources and a list of what I need?
I was happy at 525 fps with C02, now I’m NOT happy.
This is ALL your fault! AND….and, there is an excellent chance you will all burn in PCP hell for leading me down the “dark” path of an unending search for more, and yet more, fps/fpe. Damn your eyes….
1) What size tank? Front mount or rear?
2) Adapters needed?
3) Anything else I don’t know but need?
Or, is there a link to the above info?
By the way, I just put a cut down Marauder shroud on my 2300, with factory baffles. I left about 8″ of clearance from the barrel tip. I must say I am extremely pleased with the outcome. As quiet as can be. The only sound is the hammer.
Further, I have a carbon fiber shroud, 8.25″ long, with a .22 tip, but no delrin end piece or baffles. I assume it can be made to fit just about anything. I paid $75.00 for it custom fitted on my 2300 but was disappointed without baffles and I had no way to make any. If someone needs one, I’ll let it go for $25.00 shipped. It’s just a tiny bit larger diameter than the M-rod shroud.
Looking forward for more foolish ways to spend my ill-gotten gains. (Anyone got a wire butt for the 22XX lying around?)

Thanks Jeff, I doubt it will remain like this. I may go full camo and add an M4 collapsable stock. If choosing a stock I will consider a heavier one to counterbalance the tank up front. It actually balances well now with the wood insert in the carbine stock.

I could say “faulty materials” as the reason why they are broken…but honestly I couldn’t give you an absolute answer. They seemed to break during the heaviest spring pre load stages. I suppose some of them snapped at the point when I had too much preload and the spring was completely compressed so rather than recognize that it could be compressed “Mongo” appears (sort of like Dr. David Banner and the Hulk)
and I pull a little too hard and “SNAP” they went. I have learned from the loss of four bolts. I doubt it will happen again.
The 3200 psi fill is my assumption that more air will yield more shots and less time inbetween fills.
In a few weeks I will install the Boss “Max Flow”. I am anticipating a nice increase in fps. Please feel free to offer suggestions, lambastations, or whatevers on your mind now that I have your attention 😀

One last question about the bottle and that is, what is the diameter? The Ninja is 2″ and I was concerned about it touching the barrel. Otherwise I would need to find a RJMachine riser breech.
BTW, if you are interested I have an extra bottle cover I ordered from the UK and you can have it for $11. I got two for packrat and a couple for me plus two spares.

It is a 2″ diameter on my bottle as well. I’m thinking about giving this one a full camo paint job (if I do I will change out the stocks…) so I may take you up on the bottle cover offer if it still stands in the near future, thanks.

Yes, I did have this bottle on stash for awhile. I bought it from Joe at a time when he had around three available. Had I known his source was running dry I would have picked up another one.
With that long a barrel, and having the ability to use a power adjuster, you could reduce reg. press. down to 1800 or even 1600 and still have numbers (900+ ), especially after you either build a flowed-valve, or buy one….using less pressure would bump your shot count right on up 😎 😎 just something to think about……nice gun BTW, I think you and Carl and myself are the 3 worst 22XX junkies I know of 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
I think we are just the “current 22xx junkies” Many members here have some nice ones in stash. Every so often they will post some pictures to say, “been there, done that”…but man are these things fun. My next one (after I build the three I have going right now) will be a LW or BSA barreled build.
Yeah, I am getting a max flow boss valve for this one. I know from past tests that the disco valve is “ass” compared to the boss valve. Since I only used around 650 psi for those 24 shots I assume this bottlle will get around 50 shots on a 3200 fill before it even reached the regulator fall off.

I hear you on the crony testing thing. While tuning my .22 MROD I kind of questioned the madness and I had an epiphany as to why Tuners like Tony get good money for their time and efforts. Add up all those hours, spent lead, and trips to the chiropractor…and paying a tuner aint such a bad prospect after all.
In the end, however, there is some semblance of satisfaction when you, “do it yourself”. If I learned anything having a crony is a must (a minimal investment) especially when a gun gets “sick”. I am with you on the power thing. My condors are not really tuned for bell curve but for power out of the gate with a slow but steady drop. I will be retuning my SS soon for the best curve. Enjoy your new addiction to the “Lego Side”
