S410 Power adjuster
ANyone here have info on the addition of a power adjuster on the old-style (bolt) s4xx series guns??? Pomona Air Guns offers it as a mod for $60.00 but I hate to ship my gun 3000 miles and have to wait 4-6 weeks to get it back..hell shipping both ways would be about $90.00 😯 so it’s not such a good deal with that figured in…if it’s only $60.00 for PAG to mod it, it sure;y can’t be very labor intense, or require a lot of parts…Just wondering what all it invloves…sure would save me time and money thanks for any information about it 😀

Once you get it all sorted out you will be GLAD you got it instead of HW100, trust me on that…
Just because gun is not “anti-tamper” does not mean it will have that adjustment screw…the screw in the pix above is AFTER the mod was done at Pomona Air Guns..The guns that come with adjuster from factory, have the adjustment screw on the outside of the gun , stock does not have to be removed to re-adjust it.. the mod costs $60.00, BUT hafta to send the entire action from here in Georgia all the way to California, PLUS pay postage both ways 😯 😯 😯 so it would be quite expensive by the time I paid all that!!
Might help to mention that the above is true about US model guns..may be different elsewhere..
sorry forgot that it is a .22
What calibre and what pellets you using?
all clean inside ,got shot down in other forum LOL ,just looked at firing pot valve and spring ,all looks good. tested at 150 bar 180 bar still only get 9.6 just measured the firing pot was 57.30 now 57 mm ok not much of a change i know , should have got a hw100, but funds would not allow or was it the wife lol. i have not replaced the spring in firing pot yet . i have played with the naughty screw as they call it over here , no change went up by 1

could the firing pot cause low power, there was some contamination in the reservior, should i strip the firing valve, and clean the firing pot. it was last serviced in 2005.
Is the a starting point for the power adjusting screw ,chrono shows 8.5 ft.lbs i know the limit is 12 ft lbs but i would like more than the 8 i have now , the gun is pre AT made in 2000.
Thanks
paul
If it’s pre AT, then there should be an adjuster grub on the right side of the action, as shown by the pics’ above. This is only for fine tuning though really. You might get another 2 ftlb out of that. If you’ve seen crap in the pot, you definately want to strip it down and give it a thorough clean out.
(Ohh, get me, Mr ‘I’ve owned a S400 for a month now and am an expert…..’ 😆 😆 🙄
Pah! Don’t even try to mention adjusting power on that site….. 😆
I’ve got FAC air on my ticket, and even I don’t bother trying to talk about power levels anywhere on a UK forum….. 🙄 😆
ok many thanks for the link

Here’s probably THE BEST site for Air Arms…check it out…

Hello , i am new to the group, sorry if this is the wrong place to post, i have a s410 thats is low on power i have fitted new o rings, stripped and cleaned the air reservior, polished rails , fitted new main spring, pressure is holding in the reservoir so no leaks there.

MAN !!!! That is about as plain as it could be–OUTSTANDING..thanks you so very much!!
Also—rifff-raff— on PAG site it says that the new ERB power adjuster, which has the 90 degree turn limit you spoke of, can be modified to the 4 full turn style of the “grub-screw” version..Just thought you might wanna know..I wonder if Steve @ PAG can get me the parts to do the mod, but use the new-style parts??..Sure would be nicer to be able to adjust power without having to take action out of stock, huh ?? Anyway. thanks you a thousand times for the pix/info..I have had this question posted on about 5-6 different forums for a week or so and was about to give up hope of getting any answer..
Dave…DO send me a picture when ya get a chance..would really appreciate that 😎
I really dont know what the effectual difference is between the factory adjuster and this optional mod. They both do the same thing but in a different way.
I have the factory adjuster on mine, and it is nothing more than a brass rod with a hole drilled thru it.
If you open it fully, the hole is aligned with the transfer port. The more you rotate (close) it, the hole in the rod is gradually closed off.
It takes 1/4 turn to go from fully opened to fully restricted.
The grubscrew method basically puts a screw tip into the transfer port. The more you turn the screw, the more it closes off the port.
It takes 4 full turns of the screw to go from fully opened to fully restricted.
The factory adjuster is quicker but not as precise, and the locking screw requires you remove the stock to tighten it down.
The aftermarket mod is adjustable without having to remove the stock.
Here you go Packrat. There is a small grubscrew inside, and then another one behiend it to lock the first in place and make it airtight

Hope this helps, it is really as simple as that

AH SO !! we may be making some progress here…the new ones come from the factory with a power adjuster, but on the website it’s offered as a mod…like I said, for $60.00 and it is just a lttle allen-head “grub” screw..Joe….When I use 18.1 JSB jumbo heavy pellets, I have over 27fpe, when using the 15.9 jsb Jumbo’s , I have 26.2…makes no sense to be be “plinking around” with that sort of power…18-20 fpe would be plenty (don’t you agree?)…and would increase shot count..PLUS if I go from the 181cc air tube, to the 242cc tube, I’d get EVEN MORE shots per fill !!! both mods together would cost $150.00…CHEAP if you ask me…..

the adjusting screw is visable on my gun , there seems to be some difference between the air arms parts list , my main spring setup is s530 s 331 and s520 . i have just spoken to a gunsmith ,my setup is ok , the drawing is just not clear the s520-1 is a bush in the hammer. i read it wrong , he has recomended jsb pellets rather than superdome.
