Sidewinder Tactical Flip up scope covers…
Does anyone know where I can get these? Hawke doesn’t have them in production yet and can’t give a date. I looked at the butler creek covers but it seems like the eyepiece is 43mm and the objective is 49mm.
They have covers for the eyepiece at 42.5mm or 43.2mm and 48.7mm.
I guess the objective would be fine but I want a nice fit. Any ideas?

As Lurk’ says, misrepresentation. Made out to be one thing, then turns out to be another. Send the whole thing back for a refund….
Dale Radcliffe at Weaver said they don’t offer glass lenses but offered to replace my warped plastic ones if I send them back. I want the replacements but I am worried that they’ll be warped as well. I’ll send them tomorrow and we’ll see.
The smaller (ocular) lenses seem clearer that the larger (objective) lenses. It almost seems like the larger lenses are little warped as I cleaned them extensively to no avail.
I emailed Weaver for replacements and to see if they have glass lenses for aftermarket purchase but I seriously doubt it.
I know you thought the same as I did that as they have in print on the web page “A twist of the ring changes the color from clear to pale yellow for light backgrounds like snow.”

I appreciate your work on this but I’ll have to cool down and see it they take care of you right on the plastic lens issue …Afterall, Weaver Optics shouldn’t be PLASTIC 😳 …Unless maybe they provide a free replacement and a couple of spares while they are at it to make up for cheep PLASTIC lenses.
A twist of the ring releases a plastic piece which allow you to remove one lense and replace it with another. It’s a bit of a pain but I don’t see myself changing the lenses that much. I have one polarized and the other for low light.

Ah, that pesky plastic ‘glass’ protective cover as on cell phone glass etc. Just don’t scratch it , they will deteriorate real quick.

They don’t have clear lenses but I received an email back from Weaver and they said there was still some filament left on the lense and I should “pick at it”. Low and behold that was the problem. The filament was on there like tint on a window so I had to take a knife to the edge of it to get it started but now, all is well.
They flip up and release fine. They’re actually growning on me the more I use them. I would have preferred glass lenses myself but I am assuming they keeping costs down. Actually, I would pay more money for more quality. Overall at this point though, I am pretty happy. Just not ecstatic.
Had my doubts as soon as he said they were plastic lenses. As a glasses wearer ( or as Roach says ‘bespeckled’) I have a fair idea what will work well when it comes to lenses 😆

Maybe if you just change one lens to yellow it wouldn’t be a problem? Maybe one lens yellow and the other polarized and just flip up the one you don’t need.

How do they release?

I tried the non-polarized lenses today (yellow) for low light cconditions and both lenses were so cloudy you couldn’t even see through them. I sent an email to Weaver to see if they’ll replace them. Kind of annoying.
Size “P” fit much better.
I got them. The overall quality is not excellent. However, they do fit nicely on the scope and having the polarized lens makes an incredible difference when shooting in the sun. Everything is plastic including the lenses and they don’t operate the way I initially thought. The caps come with two lenses, one grey and the other yellow for low light conditions. They are interchangable by unscrewing the outer cover and simply replacing the lens. It is easy to do but I initially though it was just a turn of the dial to switch to another lens. All in all I am happy with it but would definitely have paid more money for higher quality.
For the sidewinder tactical I ordered sizes “N” and “K”. The size “N” is perfect for the ocular lens but the “K”, although it fits well, seems a little bit small for the objective. I ordered the size “P” and am currently waiting for it to see which fits better.

WEAVER POLAR CAP’s still look like the best way to go.
Lately I’ve been looking at the new WAY OVER PRICED ACCUCOVER. Nice idea but 3 times the price of Weaver Polar Caps and no Antiglare Poiarized lens.
I hope you got good replacements for the objective lens. I think I will get a set of Weaver Polar Caps and put some bright little pointers top bottom & both sides.
