Q:

pigeons in a silo

What power (low) pellet gun can i use that will kill pigeons and not put holes in a silo roof? We have hundreds of pigeons that land on the silo roof and sneak into our feed. The silo is about 100 feet high with a heavy tin roof. The shots would hit at an angle so something low powered should bounce off I think. I know soomeone here has done this! lol
Moderators if this should go to hunting sorry please move it there.

I have so many projects on the farm! 😆
My cousin wants a few foxes gone and some crows. Soo many critters and so little time. lol I go one day every week end and I reduce the numbers. Fo now he goes in the silo and when the pigeons fly they get some #6’s from a 12 guage. You get a few each time they fly. Last time they got smart and flew off the other side where I had no shot. I will get something up there soon. I am going to try thr marauder and condor at some long range crow popping this week end. They land in the picked corn and I can sit in the hedge row. 75 yard shot or so.

So did you get the problem taking care of? It was the cheapest thing we probably did to fix a problem on our farm……. Hell It still there 😉

electricution could be interesting! lol

Damn TJ, I was reading your post about the antenna. I thought that you were going to say that you had it hooked up to 110/220 and electrocuted them. Oh well, I guess shooting them would work also! 😆

That’s what I was thinking too lol =)

I was thinking you needed to get an RWS 850 with an AS, or maybe the cheap route, the 880, or a chinese b3. I would have to go with an RWS 850 because of the video i have seen with guys shooting them in and around the silos.

Setup a few traps and not to worry about making hole (s) on the silo roof 😆 😆

here is something you can do with your SS.

Now tha is a farmers solution, cheap and effective!
I have a talon ss, condor both .22 and a .25 marauder right now.
I am all for a walmart pump action for $60 to kill pigeons. Cheap and reasonable but I am going to put an antenna up there for sure!
We normally have a guy with a 12 guage wait outside and someone chase them out. #6 shot and a few fall with each shot. I was looking for a challenge and the antenna makes 100 yard shots ok to take without worry of hitting the silo roof.

There’s a “simple” thing we did on the farm to fix that issue. I climbed up and mounted an old tv antenna to the topof the ladder with 2 u bolts. Most of them landed on it and then we picked them off with a Rim fife .22 ( we didn’t have good air rifles back then)

So you might be able to do that and use what ever you have handy .

We had a similar problem when I was on the farm. The pigeons population was booming out of control, and they were taking over the buildings…shitting on everything.

They got pretty gun shy during the day…almost as bad as magpies and crows. 🙁

The solution was a big mother of a flashlight….the buggers don’t fly out of the building at night when you’ve blinded them. 🙂 Around inside the building yes…but they always get tired and land somewhere. 😉

Easy pickings with a sub 500fps .177 break barrel, and no damage to the roof. Wadcutters were the ammo of choice with head shots being preferred.

Only took a few nights to wipe them all out. 😈

2240 or a daisy 880 .177 from walmart
dang accurate and pump it 6 times ur fine pump it 10 might get a lil dent in the silo
pt many silo birds down with mine for sure

id say the 1377 or 2240 with rws super h points…just my .02

.22 QB78 might do the trick. Low powered and accurate enough. Using the right pellet might just do the trick.

Paintball gun then when they drop stomp on em.
