Q:

4500/3000PSI regulator

I have been wanting a regulator for my Condor, but a few things have held me back, ie.,the length of pull that results and the low velocity of the regulated Condor, it seems we end up with 24″Talon velocities. So the question has risen in my mind what if I had a small 4500 PSI tank with a 4500/3000PSI regulator, a larger volumed reservior on the regulator and a resonable length of pull.

I recently purchased a 4500 PSI 8.5 cuft Air Hog Pyg mee tank. And although it is no longer made, it may be close in size and capsity to make work in that it may be small enough to allow for a larger reservior on the regulator and still be shootable argonomically.

Old Goat really spurred my interest when he sent me pictures of his air Hog regulator and tank. And while it had the qualities I dislike or at least the ones that have dissuaded me from purchasing such a item, it did spur my interest and ideas. But it still used a 3000/2200 or so regulator.

One of the problems with these units as I see it is that there is not enough volume in the regulator, and while 2500 output would with the correct volume propel a 25 to 32 grain pellet in 22 or a 30 to 43 grain in 25 to 24 ” Condor velocities, the volume is just not there to be in the Condor FPS/FPE range, and it is still too long!

Old Goats unit used a modified or what looks like a modified AirForce CO2 sleeve as the regulator reservoir, it has the valve on one end and the regulator on the other end, what if you inserted a short ETAC between the valve and the sleeve, it would take that large tank and move it away from your face to make it more ergonomic for one thing, but more importantly, it would give you more volume.

However if you used a smaller 4500 PSI tank, a 4500/3000PSI angled reservior regulator and you coupled all that with a high output valve, you may get one that somebody other than a NBA Basket Ball star could shoot comfortably, and still have enough volume to send a projectile down range in the 65 to 85 FPE range.

Afterall, we did buy Condors for power didn’t we? Marmotmiltia has said he is having trouble getting the correct 3000PSI tanks, and JDS is saying he has a 4500PSI regulator coming, would this be the next evolutionary step?

I know several people have been thinking about this concept lately, so I thought I would ask the experts here.

So the question is: will a small 4500 PSI tank connected to a 4500/3000 PSI regulator, and a high performance valve like Tony’s or Sean’s or what Dave 424 is working on, with a angled larger longer reservior give us regulated 65 to 85 FPE power?

I had a poslished Talon Valve when I was doing the bird depredadation.

I was getting 25 to 30 shots, but that was a range of 1020 down to 930 before I would refill. So remembering where to aim and to accomidate the angle of shooting up into the tops of trees and different angles each time was challenging.

With the two tanks linked together, or even just topping it off in the field I could get 90 to 120 shots @ 27 FPE I think before I would need to come back to the house for air.

With a 25 grain Monster and 50 regulated shots at or near 50 FPE, I would be in heaven, or at least more feathered creatures would be in bird heaven.

this is set right at the peak of the curve. 1150 is max that i ever saw out of the 32 g. pellets.

that is a cool idea, i want to regulate my gun but dont like the non adjustability . have thought about getting an adjustable regulator for a bigger tank, and running gun off of that like 80 grit just bought, this would be cool for the bench where you need it the most.just run a whip hose off of regulated tank to your etac, instant regulated air force tank.

But you could do like you are saying and have full adjustment in the field. Put this on your small 4500 tank,

I get this with a 3000 fill with the 32 grain eunjins.poweer wheel 10, tophat at .100 with the oring.

I just did some testing. 2000 psi fill 956 fps with 31 gr. Got one shot at 982 fps. At 1800 psi it was still 918 fps.Tried to do JSB’s but I shot my chronogragh and it is done. Ordered new one with lighting kit so I can do it inside and not have to shoot though. Won’t be here until next week.

That’s really neat RC. did you look at the link i put up, that regulator would be perfect on your line after the bottle and you already have the gauges.

This would be pretty cool. hell get one of the 44 scba out dated bottles and rig them on your back like air apparatus fire department tanks. fill with your shoe box. you would be set up for sure.

How many shots you think out of the tank you bought with the 18 grain pells, isn’t that what you are shooting.

I love messing with these guns. It looks like we are chasing pretty much the same goals, just from different approaches.

My remote tank, the Pygmee, will be 4500PSI continuesly feeding into the Airforce 3000PSI tank to keep the 3000 level, the regulator will be on the remote tank.

That way the Airforce tank becomes the reservior and never drops below 3000 PSI. It will be interesting to see how many shots I can get off that set up before it does drop below 3000PSI. As per Air Hogs fill chart, I can fill the Airforce tank from 2000 to 3000 PSI three times from the Pygmee, so maybe 60 Condor velcoity shots when running continuesly?

Volume wise the Pygmee tank is 8.5 cuft and 4500 PSI.

Now I see what your doing. I’m going with the added ring chamber. I thought you were using 4500 psi tank with reg on the gun.

I just unpacked the tank and supply hose, can’t fill anything yet because the Shoebox will not be here until December.

It would work as a stock/tank also, it is certainly small enough, with MM ETACREG, but the reg being a 4500/3000 PSI.

I have a metal breech coming from Subssonnic, so the outlet pressure is negotiable.

Yeah I get these ideas in bed at night when I can’t sleep.

I have been looking at that gauge, but it is a lot of cash, $400.00 by the time it gets here, when I am buying all this other stuff. And yes that is what 80 Grit has with a much bigger tank, like he said they would have to air drop him pellets on a pallet before he would run out of air.

Mine would be non adjustable, unless you count the power wheel, I would just be supplying the Condor tank with a full 3000 PSI constantly from the outside source, to get what you and I have gotten from the 32 EJ’s, in theory it would just turn the Condor tank into a giant regulator reservior..

Look at the JDS internet site, he does not show the 4500 PSI regulator, just says he is going to get them. But I would put it on the 4500 PSI tank that I will carry on my belt or backpack.

Of course if your shooting from inside a car, like eastern Oregon Sage Rat shooting and used a 30 or 45 minute tank at 4500 PSI, you could have that power all day long.

Jim (aka) Marmot_Militia is working on something to get higher fpe with a regulator for the .25 shooters.

The only problem I see is it would be back to the way it was before I had my 4500 psi tank. Every fill would be less than the last. Someone need’s to make a 3500 psi tank. I think that with the right amount of air for the reg it will be a lot different. Look at the Edgun. It’s running off of 1650 psi? We shoud be able to get 1000 fps with 31 gr on 2000 psi. It will be a couple of weeks before I get my modified reg together. I’m going to start on the 2000 and if that works I will do the 2500 to.

Yes it just involves borrowing/using/combining some engineering and technology.

But I still believe, that is the route to go for the future of this platform, and when I saw JDS site saying he was going to offer that 4500 PSI regulator, to me it meant, more shots, higher FPE in the same size tank.

After watching 700 or so birds get hit at 26 FPE at target impact (50 yards), and then switching to the Condor valve and seeing the same thing at 50 FPE, I saw what I had been missing.

What we need is tank built to specs to allow all this to happen and to allow a longer reservoir, however Dyotat100 welding a chamber to the ETACREG, is simply going at the larger reservior from a different angle.

People like Jim Gaska, who go out on a limb to pioneer this stuff add so much to the sport, do us such a service, problem for them, it seems to me, is that Condor mod technology is so fast evolving.

It is sort of like going back in history to the year 1866 and watching metalic cartridge technology evolve to smokeless cartirdges, all the different paths the inventors at the time went down.

We are living in interesting times and watching airguns evolve at an accelerated rate.

Sounds like you have a bit of a mission roach.

With one of my less powerful valves in my .25, using a regulated chamber that wasn’t uncomftorably long, I was hitting 50FPE with lightweight 20.1 grain pellets and over 60 FPE with 31 grain pellets, with only 2000psi regualted.

I bet I could get more with my new valve in the making.

Actually I have almost all the parts to do this now, when I get the valve from Dave 424 to get better Condor performace, and JDS starts selling the 4500 PSI regulator they have advertised.

I have a Pygmee tank coming with a 3 foot fill whip and a bleeder valve, I just need to attach the 4500 PSI regulator to the Pygmee tank, put it on my belt and then attach the whip to my short ETAC.

Then I have a 490cc 4500 PSI regulator reservior and a more efficient valve and th ergonomics of the short ETAC and Condor bottle.

When the world decides how to attach all this to the rifle in a man portable way, then I will reconfigure the parts.
