The Pellets….the say 46gr on the tin….But Ranged beteween 43ish…to 45.9ish

Shot String…..well pellets are in Limited supply and I need to concentrate on the Extreme B.R. Match next week … so not much time or Pellets to waste on Tuning..
Just Gotta shoot it the Way Fredrick set it up….I am Sure it will be just amazing…..BUT..Shot count is A SOLID 36 to 45…4 to 5 Full Magazines with a 230ish fill. I am still a little concerned about running it at the higher fill pressure but the Guys at A.O.A say I can fill it higher..
Only had time to do some limited shooting this afternoon….Winds were Gusting and Swirling in a
odd manner..pellets shot were weight sorted.. I did not have time to second guess a Brand New Gun/Caliber/Scope Combo… so reduced the variables as much as possible…(Group shot out of the Magazine)
These were the lightest Pellets running 73ish F.P.E !!!!!
Hear is the Problem…..This gun is one of the Most Fun Guns I have to shoot !!!!!

OG… I have been watching your work on the Edguns since you got your first. I don’t do a lot of posting….just because of most of the B.S. from the fellow members with less experience.(will just leave it at that)
Answers.. The barrels on all the recent guns are 0.550.. The photo above is .22 cal bbl blank I cut down and fit to a friends Royale 400….all I can say he was VERY Happy with the results.
This is not ment as bragging…But other then the staff at AOA I am the only other shooter that has Any trigger time with the Boss in the U.S. (as of this post…I took the first one home 4 hours after they unpack them last Thursday)
That aside….. it is too bad more shooters/innovators like your self are not coming out to the shoot in Tuscon this up coming weekend.
Fredrick, Tony, and several others will be present. Last year I got the chance to chat extensively to both these gentleman… WOW… My brain hurt for weeks…….LOL!!
They are very open and very willing to share all kinds of insight…Where else can you get the opportunity to talk with the Top Airgun Developers on the planet…
The staff at AOA are great people, But they do not know of your back ground and experience tuning A.G’s…..
I spent a few hours the other day fitting a new valve to my FX Elite to change it from a .22 to .25. I had no idea there were different valves.
Saying that, I have become very familiar with the FX platform…at least from a Mechanical perspective….. I spent some time polishing all the internals of the FX Elite..it is now VERY SMOOTH….
So far I have cut and fit 2 other barrels to my FX Elite…a .25 ST and a .22 LW BBL…both shoot very well.
I think the FX Platform can be worked with….hammer weights, Springs etc.
Most of which looks easy to make if necessary. I am a Power Junkie just as much as the Next guy. But I am Learning there is a little more Physics involved with the “Ballistic Window” that these guns operate in.
I picked up some “Metal Working” machine over the last year…..WOW.. I should have done this years ago…I am working on my “skill Set” with the machines. I took a couple of classes at the NRA Gunsmithing school. My instructor was “Speedy Gonzales” he is one of the Top Bench rest shooters of our time…and also a career Tool and Die Maker…Yes I picked up a few things…..

I spent a couple of hours today on the net trying to find more info on the Boss. I even called AOA up, twice! They are currently out, expect to have another shipment in a week and are taking a $500 deposit for them right now. Of course, they think that they only have one left on the pre order list! 😆

He claims that the Boss will shoot up to 120 fpe.
I asked AOA if the reg and HST were maxed out or, would I be able to turn them up?
They said that they “could” be turned up but, that they didn’t recommend that an owner “mess with” the adjustments. An owner doing so could quickly mess the factory settings up and make the gun “shoot erratically”
I sent an email to FX and I wonder if I will ever get a reply.

Rossall, when you have the time, would you measure the OD of the Boss’s barrel for me?
With power comes noise. That is why the boss is quiet, low power.
The wolverine is shooting at 100 fpe and that is why the shot count is lower.
Not knocking the gun. It is a nice looking gun. The main reason for going with .308 and .257 is to get away from pellets and have control of the quality of bullets I shoot.
Just look at what has happened with the JSB pellets. Your getting 3-4 gr difference in weight with what your shooting. Most of mine are .1-.3 gr different and up to .5 for 73 gr.
I know casting is not for everyone though, but it is actually fun.
Yes I have spent time figuring out the .308. I have a lot of time on the valve. But if I would have not set my goal so high on what fpe I was going for I could have stopped on the first setup and been done. I have squeezed another 50 fpe out of it with better shot count.
.257 was easy to build until it came time for the valve. I had a little frustration and figuring to do. But again if I would have settled on the first setup of 900 fps I would have been done. I want 1150 fps and I’m at 1075 fps and there’s room for more.
My .308 is shrouded and quiet compared to what it is without it. It’s backyard friendly if your neighbor is not 10 ft away. I shoot it at my friends house where the lots larger. It sounds like a large nail gun.
The .257 will be shrouded here shortly. It should be real quiet because it is about half as loud as the .308.
Dyotat100…. I completely agree this gear is up there in price. I have been involved in various aspects of shooting and competition for most of the last 20 years…
There are a couple of things I have learned… either I can pay upfront for performance and quality…..OR….I can spend a lot of time “wildcating” a new products that is not main stream…. I think the .257 has a lot of promise. I am just willing for someone else do the work….I have already put in my time
I call it not the “Cutting Edge”…….But……The “Bleeding Edge”…..
To be totally honest my main interest in getting The New FX Boss was to see first hand what was possible. I wanted higher shot count then the Wolverine…and was hoping for something more “Noise Friendly”. When I heard the gun fire for the First time…….”I was Sold” I figured everything else would work its self out…
Please answer me a question….How much time do you have testing and getting your Condors Dialed in and working to your level of expectation.
And by comparison actual cost in getting the performance you will accept.
I am pretty comfortable knowing the FX Boss is a 100 yrd and in hunting rig……..Please Keep Up the Work On the .257’s !!!!! I know I want one..I am just not a “Condor Guy” …just not my cup of tea!
Besides….If I can’t get a New “R3 Edgun” that I have been waiting on for well over a year… I might as well get something fun and New…

My .308 and .257 are Condors. .257 is right at 190 fpe and .308 is at 280 fpe with 158 gr or 250 fpe with 119 gr.
I dont own a powder burner.
I just think for the boss performance, it is a lot of money.
…..one last thing…
I am in total agreement with you steve…I just want to grab pellets ans go have fun. I will always want to know the limits of any shooting platform….so when I miss my target I have a good idea of what the problem was…
When I shoot our local Bench Rest Matches I just grab a tin of pellets and Shoot…but I have found what guns that can be done with ans which cant.
For general hunting and plinking out to 50 yards just “Grab and Go”…

Acourvil……thanks for the offer…I would have picked some up from AOA the other day but they were waiting on the next shipment….(only 10 miles form the house…we did test some when we unboxed the guns.. I think they will do fine.)
Lots of conjecture on performance and durability…Here is how I look at it…
If I wanted to shoot +100 FPE out to 100 yards…I’ll grab a Powder burner and and a can…
The air gun thing is a specialty thing….Urban plinking and Pest Control.
Super low cost ….Fun..no reloading…no noise…
I think the guns are built to last… for example….when I got my Verminator…I have 10k to 15k shots through that thing (Only replaced to 2 orings so far)….my Daystate Air Wolf….10k to 12k…but had a some small issues…but its a tack drive and it a great gun.. the FX Royale series looks to be 100% User serviceable !!!!! The FX Royale series guns have not been around that long…with regards to the strength of the internals..like any thing when you start to “HOT ROD” them beyond the “Design Envelope” you will push the limits and stuff breaks…
I would like to hear any and all information on ANY FX Failures…
Gotta get back to work….lost to before the “Tuscon Match” this week end
…..one last thing….with regards to the pellets…with every thing so new…I felt if I sorted the pellets I would be able to better gauge any performance issues… When we test fired the guns at AOA, We pulled pellet straight out of the can….we were able to easily keep shots under 1/2 at 50 yrds..and looks like they could easily hold under an inch out to 75…

Slayer, I have the same problem with ROC’s and Fishinrod’s avatars. 😉 It was refreshing to hear Kazz confirm the lack of strength of FX internals. I hope that Rosall’s .30 cal BOSS was designed for the extra power. That looks like a great air rifle. It looks like FUN!!! Good Luck Rosasll and thanks for posting. Have you found that it makes a difference to sort your pellets? I ask because most of my airguns seem to shoot well without sorting, (which is what I want in an airgun). I freely admit that I am not a very good shot and that sorting pellets may be lost with my limited skills.

Very nice gun, but I’m not sure I’d even compare it to the .257 platform. Different animal altogether. Great 100 yard and under rig for sure. But I think the mind set behind the .257 begins at 100 and beyond! Definitely going to make a great “smack down” hunting rig for under 100 yards with one hell of a shot count to boot!
The pellet weight difference is pretty bad. Is that the only thing available?When I cast .257 or .308 they are less than .5 gr difference.
Time to have some solid bullets made to see how it does. I don’t think pellets are going to do to good at far distance.
I sighted in my .308 and .257 at 300 yds yesterday and would have been hitting your target at 300 yards. .257 had more scope and could have went to probably 400 yds.

However as Steve mentioned, FX is not the best “internal” airgun. Basically it’s like a theoben, but then thinner. The parts are not as robust as a theoben, they are all lighter and thinner and thus more easy to break.
Here in EU we don’t have a problem to find new parts, i don’t know how that is in the US.
OG, if I was you I would just wait a bit until… Yeah, 60 grain slug shooting at an FX, worries me for the internals. Also out of an Airwolf…..

Thanks for the reply and your machining skills are excellent! I have access to a shop full of machining tools and I can kinda-sorta run a lathe, mill, surface grinder ect but, you would leave me flopping on the bank!
I have wanted to take some college machining classes, learn how to really run the stuff and then buy a small mill and lathe for home use. Datotat’s and your pics are really pushing me over the edge!
I was going to bed when I saw that your reply popped up. I couldn’t find my micrometer so; I used my Starret caliper to measure my 25 cal Royale barrel. It came out as .547”, close enough.
