Q:

100 yards, Battle of the Bullpups Edgun -vs- Cricket

I was traveling today and knew I might just have enough time to drop by a 100 yard indoor range built into my schedule so here is how it went down. Since I normally shoot indoor at work on the weekends all by myself I did not have any hearing protection with me in my bag but I got lucky and was the only one at first and I got in a whopping 15 minutes on the range before a guy showed up wanting to blast away with his Ar15.

Let me qualify a bit of how this session went down before you judge the results as this is a serious case of the shooter and station influencing the outcome. When I got my range bag unpacked and my front rest in place, I set the gun up and realized they had swapped to some kind of dorky 12″ tall wood stools since I had been there and I could not come close to getting a cheek weld. I ended up setting my front rest aside and propping the gun on both of my soft bags under the forearm and shouldering the butt stock. No it doesn’t stop there, I also had to kick my right ankle under me and sit on top of it with only my left foot on the floor. 👿 .

I knew there was another guy coming as he said he was gonna browse in the shop a bit before he came down, so I hurried like crazy and shot a few rounds with with holdover for some quick practice/reference and it just didn’t feel or look good so I changed my plan and threw 52 clicks up in the cricket, it was close so I added 4 more rounds and shot that group. The edgun was shooting a bit low and right yesterday at 80 yards so it got 54 clicks up and then another 5 up and 5 left to get close and I shot that group. Thats it done, thanks to the guy waiting on me as I shot the last 5 shots from the Edgun. I packed my stuff in about 2 minutes and was outta there. I know everybody makes excuses but since people will compare the guns from this to a small degree I thought it worth saying how it went down so poorly over all. I could see my cross hairs weaving and bopping on both guns but done the best I could at the time. UGGG it was painful. I cannot wait to do this again under better circumstances as both guns have so much more to offer. I think both can do 1″ now with a proper rest and hold. The cricket faired a bit better but to be fair I could get a couple of fingers under the butstock and was more stable in micro adjusting. The Edgun I had to wrap my palm around it’s butstock due the the longer hangdown and it was real akward. I still think in my gut that both guns shoot the same !!! Sorry so sloppy but just real rushed and ill prepared.

I think it curious the cricket shot vertical and the Edgun horizontal. I would have expected the opposite, The Cricket was tuned by Ernest 300 or so rounds ago so I is likely close on the shot spread and the Edgun still needs chronyed from the HST adjusted with locknut swap out and guess at setting it back !! I can find no logic ??? other than the two different holds as the guns were shot.

He goes by the nickname “Toshik” here at TAG. You may – or may not – get a two word answer to your questions so send him a PM.

I’ve shot a appx 5 thousand AA branded 25.s No measurable difference in accuracy at 100yds at 885 and 940 fps even though about 6 tins had slightly ,and I do mean slightly different inner skirts.

I have been really lucky with pellets but I think the reason is that Pyramyd packs them extremely securely and it only takes one day to get from them to my house so the gorilla doesn’t have much time to mess with them.

Order FX´s ! I´ve not had one Tin yet with many deformed pellets in it – at most a couple of them per Tin. I think they´re still selling older batches of JSB´s thus we get deformed shit. I´m under the impression those newer batches , made after week 20 or so in 2013 , aren´t nearly as bad. Who knows though … :darth-vader:

I need to order a Tin or two of those JSB’s to see if the quality has improved lately.

Dont get too high hopes up, got 8 tins KING’s the other week, at least one tin was pure crap, more than half were deformed, have not checked all tins yet, but I got a feeling I wont be too happy.
<grrr>

:angrymob:

AA,FX,Cometa and EdGun are JSB Kings (.25’s ) relabeled. There is a rumor that those relabeled pellets go thru an extra QC but i think it’s BS. Some batches are good and some not so good and the last 10 or so Tins of King’s i bought were pure shit. Both .22’s and .25’s alike – at least half of the pellets in every Tin was deformed. I stopped buying them last Spring and went over to FX branded Kings and they are much better. I need to order a Tin or two of those JSB’s to see if the quality has improved lately.

I bought 6 tins of the AA. they are very close to the look of the Jsb. But all 6 tins had a lot of bent skirts and just banged up pellets. Im not a fan of them. 10 shots at 100yards were anywhere from 4-6″ where as with the JSB’s i can keep 10 shots right around 1.75.

But they did shoot decent out to 50 yards…….. That was in my HM1000X

I think that the air gun Community is growing in size…. and with all the different guns out there. And one pellet seems to dominate. Hopefully that metal mag comes out and shoots decent in the .25

Looking to stock up some on .25 25.4g pellets, PYR and AGD are both out. I have been told that the air arms pellets are the same pellet ?? What experience do you guys have with this ??

Unless something has changed Tony told me 6 weeks ago that they were seeing how the .22 pellets worked out before ever considering 25’s and had none and no current plans.

Where could I lay my hands on a tin or two of EdGun .25’s, I want to see how they stack up (pun intended) against the JSB Kings I get from PA.

I need to test that but i´m sure the EG´s will do better. FX´s shoot very well but there´s always a flier lurking when i least expect it and the EG´s seem to have far less of those.
The real question is : Where can i buy 10 Tins of those EG pellets from a good batch ?? I wonder if there´s any around at all … 😯

Nice one Vildo.. how do those pellets I gave you compare to your FX .25s at those ranges?

I was at the range today determined to shoot some nice groups since there was no wind – at all. Unfortunately the little Range in the neighborhood is only 50m so we started the day at another “Range” where one can shoot from 0 meters to 200 meters. I placed my targets to conveniant spots at 75m & 90 m and went for it. I used the EdGun pellets i got from Whiny Wombat in NZ and was very pleased with the performance. When we were done with those longer range groupings we drove to the home range and did some 50 m shooting as well.
You can all figure out which group was shot at what distance. The 50m and the 90m groups are 5 shot groups and the middle one shot at 75m is with 6 shots since i managed to pull the fifth shot on that group and got pissed so i shot one more shot to give the gun a chance to show what it can do without me twitching excessively . The gun outshoots my capability so that was only fair … Never mind the RWS Tin in the pic – i used EG pellets.
