Q:

12 fpe fun

The other day I decided to see what the UK brothers are shooting when they are shooting 12 fpe. I had to lower my fps to 550 to achieve it with my 18.13 gr JSBs. I had my LDC on it and the hammer slap was much more comfortable to ears. Sounds like a spring going boing rather than crack! According to Chairgun, at 50 yds still yields 8.55 fpe which is plenty for knocking down birds. The gun is quieter than my prod and even quieter than my new ak-47 410 fps air soft. If you’re pesting within 50 yds and afraid of bothering the neighbors, this would be the ideal setup. Not to mention the shot count goes up a lot. I was outside shooting at 6 am.

To the UK shooters, are you mostly restricted to 50 yds when shooting 12 fpe? Placed an order with Rapid for his long fore grip custom stock. This is going to be my daily shooter for sure.

*note I am using a shorter spring than OEM. Got it from Ernest. As for the HST adjuster GKU sent me one of Imppu’s. Great little thing 🙂

I joined the Bullpup Mad forum last night and their facebook page. I am not able to see much on the forum but on FB seems like these guys are doing pretty well on their hunts. Do you know what the penalty is for shooting over 12 fpe without acquiring the proper paperwork?

Not all uk lads shoot 12ftlb we can have big power like u guys but we have to register with the fire arms dept for 12ftlb u want a stronger valve spring 110-120 bar is perfect for 177 for .22 100 bar reg pressure is ideal some lads with 177 sub 12 can hunt to extreme ranges 60-70-80 yard but it is frowned upon here by a lot what we can shoot with air is nothing like u can shoot any think bigger than a hare /rabbit is frowned upon if we shot a fw even with big fac air and publicly posted about it we,d have the lynch mob after us big power isn’t every thing watch vermin hunters tv si pittaway is a cracking shot with a 12ftlb spring gun let alone pcps shooting spinners out to 80-90 yards with out accuracy power is nothing most lads limit there shooting to under 50 yards sub 12 tho again for fear from the lynch mobs are nation is of animal lovers where animas ave alt more rights than humans in many cases :angrymob: atvb Dave

Hey Greg I didn’t change the valve spring just the shorter and lighter hammer spring from Ernest. Honestly that’s all you need and hardly any hammer slap. I hear a quick click and that is it. I lowered my regulator a few months back. I can’t remember if it is at 110 or 120b. However, fps is very consistent between 550 and 554. Not sure why the UK boys even need an LDC when shooting 12 fpe. No wonder when I watched youtube videos of them trying out different LDCs and it was practically noiseless. Definitely not the same results when you put an LDC on a gun over here shooting 30 or 50 fpe. At these speeds the hammer slap is louder than…. I can’t think of an analogy but you get the point 🙂

quote GKU:

That’s way coooool Donny !!!

Imppu’s HST has more outward play then any other I tried, good if looking to lowering the fpe.

I have a lighter/shorter hammer spring on order with Ernest to try to lower my 177 Compact down to 12 fpe just for fun.
I try turning the barrel to close of the transfer port which also works but the hammer has the same smack level.
When from 1 turn after contact on the valve retainer to 1.5 turns it made to hammer smack a bit louder.

Also Donny did you change your valve spring to a lighter one also ?
I would think it would help even lower the hammer impact/smack noise more so.

~ ATB ~ Greg ~ p.s. gee that FOR SALE sign u’d put out on your neighbors front lawn didn’t work for ya ? 😆
