.22 Marauder barrel
Pulled the barrel on my MRDR for a bit of clean up.
First thing I noticed was there was a “dent” on the breach end that cause some metal to protrude into the inleade area, a little work work a file took care of that.
the lands where rough and filthy, polished them up a bit with metal polish, will probably do a bit more polishing as it is still a bit rough.
Crown wasn’t too bad, polished it up – well see….
smoothed out the transfer port area in the bore.
the scary one is the inleade isn’t concentric to the bore, there is a small lip on one side, maybe a couple thou….
going to try the earplug and sand paper trick to see if I can smooth it out a bit
hopefully this will tighten up the groups a bit and make it less pellet picky

extra tip for using the ear plug trick, toss the ear plugs in the freezer for 10 minutes, it will slow down how fast it wants to expand back out to full size.
Gives you a second to get it in the barrel before it expands.

Thanks Water, I will give him a call. He will be cutting a few chrome molly tubes for me soon, so perhaps I will kill “two birds with one stone”.
80 Grit, my understanding is that in order to change to .25 you’ll need to replace everything above the pressure tube.
Still cheaper than buying a whole new gun though.
I’m thinking that if this barrel doesn’t work out I’ll just get a blank from Mac1 and machine it down.
80, I would rec’d the HW barrel that Tim Mac1 sells. Very good shooting barrels.

I have been considering machining my 24″ .22 spare condor barrel (real accurate barrel, loves EJ’s and JSB’s…) for my MROD. Darren at Pacific will do it for me for around 100 bucks…He’d have to take alot of diameter off of that barrel to come down to the Crosman size, etc.
I am holding out to see if I can get a .25 drop in for that price or cheaper as it would make no sense to destroy a perfectly good 180.00 barrel and spend another 100.00 doing it….
I can get a blank machined for cheaper…I might go this route. All I know is I need to figure something out soon as I have one of David Sosa’s sweet aluminum tactical stocks and this thing had better shoot as good as it looks 😎

80grit, I e-mailed Green Mountain and was told that they do not sell to the public; we would have to buy their .25 Marauder barrel from Crosman…when they become available of course. I am sorry to hear that you are having such trouble with your rifle; that sucks.

There is some fine rockchuck hunting in that area for that air rifle of yours. Lots of farm country as you know, even tho is is getting built up around there, so being stealthy will be a plus. If you drive towards Redmond and keep an eye out on those rock piles in the fields, you will see some huge old chucks.
I imagine the prices of places have dropped considerably since this thing hit.
Voltar, it is a strange fix, but it sure cured my problem, we had all the dovetails cut and with the price of Krieger barrels plus the wait made it a throw away and the gun out of commision for too damn long if the waxpaper did not work. And don’t ask me why it did, I haven’t a clue.
I gave that gun to my son when he got back from Iraq, he grew up watching me build and shoot that old smoke pole.

The next logical questions are: How much change will it take to upgrade to the .25 barrel? Does Greenmountain sell the .25 “drop in” barrels? Can we buy the .25 magazines from Crosman? Does anything else need to be changed in order to upgrade to .25?
I am about ready to throw my .22 barrel in the trash. I have already wasted enough time, energy, and lead trying to get it to group well. Oh yeah, it will shoot four shot groups dam near hole in hole—it will do this quite often…but one other thing it does—quite often—is throw shot number five a half inch off the one hole group 😡 I’ve had all I can stand and I can’t stands no more!
I misread the title of this post and trhought that you were talking about .25 Marauder barrels. They are made by Green Mountain Barrel Co.. The .22 are made by Crosman as far as I know and their QC isn’t the best. I hear that a replacenet barrels in .22 caliber are $25…shipped. That’s a bad sign. I have read that others have tuned their barrels with great success. Good luck!

Don’t know ow to fix Dogwoods problem, but I know a neat trick on fixing a chattered chamber on a new barrel or probably on a used one too.
This came from JGS who makes reamers in Oregon. My gunsmith chambered a new Krieger barrel on my engraved Sharps Borschardt with my 45/100 reamer, the finished chamber was badly chattered, you could see it with the naked eye once you drove a fired case out of the chamber with a rod.
JGS said to wrap the reamer in wax paper. then coat it in vasoline and then run it in slowly.
At the time it sounded like burying two chicken leg bones cross ways under a juniper at midnight, ie., witchcraft.
But it worked and the gun was scary accurate with cast bullets and black powder.

I’m trying to buy a house off Tumalo Rd. and 85th st.
Unfortunately almost everything here either a foreclosure or short sale, the one we’re after is a short sale, we put in an offer at the end of january,
we’re still waiting for the bank to OK everything, then we have to get financing, if we’re lucky we might be able to move in by the end of May, was looking like the beginning of May at first, but those tards just drag their feet on everything.
It’s really getting old.
But it’s a nice house on a nice lot (1.66 acres) plenty of air gunning room 🙂
Just hope they get it together soon would hate to miss out on tax credit.
roachcreek, my understanding is the .25 barrels are made by someone other than Crossman at this point in time and are actually quite good, kinda makes me wish I had waited and gotten a .25
Voltar, the earplug trick is to take a foam earplug, mush it down as thin as possible, like you do to put it in your ear, then wrap a piece of sandpaper around it, push it in and the foam will expand and press the paper against the walls.
On the transfer port I took a round jewelers file and rounded off the forward portion and sides, it’s slow tedious work but you can round off the edges fairly nicely and get rid of that sharp lead shaving lip

otherwise it’s about the same. need to run more pellets through before making a final judgement.
I can say that it still sprays JSBs all over the place.
Wish I could setup my lathe and put a new crown on it. oh well that will just have to wait
