.22 VS .25
As I work on part 2 of my video I would like to hear what you guys think the difference is between the .22 vs .25? Part 2 I want to maybe attack or confirm some traditional ideas regarding the .22 and .25 calibers. I am not looking for an argument, just your opinions. This will help me bring on film what you want to see.

Thanks for doing another video. I would be interested in seeing what are the advantages of using .22 vs .25 at the 100+ target range, but not for hunting, instead for target shooting. It would be great if you could add some scope mag settings and elevation setup advice as well.

I still favour my .22 Matador for all pesting to 120 yards. The .25 comes into its own past that and has arguably an extra 100-150 yards of usable range/energy over the .22cal.
I treat my .25 cals more like a .22 rimfire and believe they demand a little more care when “plinking around home”.. a 34gr pellet at 900 odd fps can do some surprising damage even after it has passed through your target or ricochets off something.. 🙄
.30 is actually very close to heavier .25 pellets in BC and Yrrah’s measurements gave JSB King Heavies better BC than .30 pellets seem to have.
IMO .25 is the optimum long range pellet caliber, if it’s not enough it’s best to start shooting bullets. .25 is loud and uses quite a lot of air if you push those heavy pellets to 900+ fps. It’s also harder to make quiet as the holes in the LDC devices need to be bigger. That means that .22 excels in shorter range work where silence and air efficiency is needed but .177 punches too small holes in the target.
Joe , if you want the most quietest PCP Airgun , then get the smallest caliber offered which is the .177 cal.
anything above it is going to be louder . That is the nature of PCP airguns .

Alright this is getting ridiculous. Of course as you step up in calibers(weight) the BC will increase. That is what a BC is, the projectiles ability to maintains its velocity. heavier objects tend to want to stay in motion and retain more energy. But the trajectory is dependent on the velocity, which governs the rate of pellet drop and the BC simultaneously(sometimes with diminishing returns). Since the velocities tend to decrease as you step up in caliber the trajectory always get loopier…
Keyser for some of us it’s not so much knockdown power as noise …Not only from the gun but pellet impact on target ! Even in a supposedly ” silent ” target the 25 caliber impact is hard to miss . After your advice my 25 Cricket was almost totally silent , but the pellet hits SO much louder than a 22 does .I have a large business directly behind my back fence and lots of noise draws unwanted attention . The pellet cost is kind of a silly argument to me when we are playing with 1500$ BB guns. Lol…. The difference in how wind reacts is not such a big deal when your range maxes out at 50 yards . Shots per fill is something I am REALLY interested in what you find out . My 25 shot 50 full power shots from 200-120 bar . Lotta guys called Bullshit but it did . My first 22 Cricket would barely do it .
Dan i get that part but is it necessary? .30 has better weight and BC to a .25. 9mm has better weight and bc than a .30 cal. and on and on, so i believe the question should be when is enough a enough? Ted (and I hate to quote him here) said do you really need a .25 Cal to dispatch HOSP? No but its a hell- of a lotta fun. So at the end of the day no matter what the choice of caliber .177, .22, .25, or .30 cal the answer should be depends on what you end use and or target will be. Which seems simple now that i put it out there like that, but i’ve as many other still ask themselves that when buying a new gun.
I would say weight and BC gives the .25 the edge given the same velocity + effect on target.

The whole root of the discussion over the ages between to calibers comes down to flattest trajectory which is almost a thing of the pass. Effect the wind has on a pellet (and since you can’t control the weather i left that one alone, its understood the more volume the less impact). Which brings us to the next two:
FPE at 50 and 100 yards per caliber (with cool clay demo of course). Because we have to assume that the accuracy is the same across the boards.
Penetration in a gelatin block (which has been done, but i don’t think its been done with the same model guns shooting each pellet at the same FPS (apples to apples and all) Think 25 yards would be good distance).
My reasons for this, FPE test will show how much force each pellet carries down field compared to what is needed for a human kill FPE wise. Penetration test should reflex the need or less of a need for make a hole in our quary.

On my 22 Cricket 38 to 48 yards its a sometimes dam did I get that sparrow, Was it a clean hit?
On the 25 its pow, Yea I got it, Not much question on if I hit it or not, You no you tagged it with the 25,
I really go back in forth on my Crickets on which is better, But it boils down to which gun has more air in it when I open the safe up to grab one to take the sparrow shot.
No real clear winner.
Not much help but its all I can do.

Expanding bullets do not work always. Polymags won’t fit in the magazines of all guns and Baracuda hunters are a bit heavy for 12 fpe guns. Crow mags are seldom accurate past 20 yards. In those cases a regular .22 pellet does about the same amount of damage with less air used.
