Q:

240 Bar Shot Strings from my R3 .30 cal Long

So I had some free time this evening and decided to do a shot string. I was curious how the factory one looks.

By looking at the string I can tell that it want to shoot 915-920fps in order for string to be flat. I think its a bit too hot for my taste.

I put about 50 pellets through the gun before this shot string. I set it to shoot 885ish.

So to flatten the string I could crank up HST to shoot 915. This will give me less shots though.

What I will do is probably turn the regulator down half a turn (turn down hst of course). It shoud probably get me into 890s or so I hope.

Here it is 45 usable shots as it ships from Factory.

I think i figured it out. came off my scope rings. i had 2 locking hex screws that i didn’t tighten all the way. it hit my left hand under the stock when i shot.

My Dear Lars….

First off….NEVER mount your scope under the stock! Not only is a cheek weld near impossible to achieve, but, as you have noticed, your nuts can come loose, and the screws will fall off.

Secondly,

Dick Chop, MD, is a fine physician, and I recommend him highly. With the new Taser arthroscopic probe attachments they use, it takes only a 30 second zap to get the job done.

In fact, your wife recently complimented me on my results, and noted that tiny scar was barely visible! (She wouldn’t have seen it then, if she hadn’t been insisted on wearing that stupid strap-on LED head lamp.)

I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t take care of this.

I’ll have to check that, i have several screws loose, but all nuts look intact

We were suspecting the same thing. Good you have the insight yourself .. 😀

I’ll have to check that, i have several screws loose, but all nuts look intact upon thorough investigation.

think i figured it out. came off my scope rings. i had 2 locking hex screws that i didn’t tighten all the way. it hit my left hand under the stock when i shot and felt it came out of trigger area.

no more kids needed here. 2 is enough. i actually thought of seeing a local doc, Richard Chop, to get the snips done, but couldn’t go through with it.

They couldn’t have fallen off your nuts could they? I mean doesn’t every nut have a corresponding screw???

One way to tell is if they are SAE standard, they are American, if Metric then European.

I’ve heard of a guy “dropping a nut”, but I’ve never heard of anyone dropping the screws from both!!! I’m not certain, but I think you are no longer able to have children!

Concerned…

no, not yet. although I found another identical on the floor later so I am thinking it is not from the edgun.

I may have some time to look at it more today and try and figure it out.

Lars did you figure out where that screw is from yet? Maybe Ed can answer that?

That looks like Obama’s railcar that just blew up because he refused to build a pipeline. 😯

well, that answers that Hoot. 😀

well, that answers that Hoot. 😀

Hang onto it. Everything goes somewhere!

Could be a “leftover” from assembly, guy dropped one and didn’t bother to pick it up, just installed another one.

Or, it could be the Over-pressure Explosion Retention Hex Master Screw….let’s just hope it’s not THAT hex screw!!!

Concerned,

Thats a good one. I cant think of where that screw goes. hmmm 😕

ok, took stock off, but doesnt look like that small hex screw was the HST lock screw. Here it is next to the HST screw

I couldn’t see a place to put this screw. is it somewhere in the trigger assembly?

i don’t have time to play w/ it until this evening, but will loosen the hst screw and try raising fps, and see where I go from there.

thanks in advance

I took it apart for pics and measurements and then tried my 25 cal breech and Hart barrel on the gun. The 30 cal will shoot my .257″ 44 grain cast bullet at 850 fps and I think that a hogged out transfer port on the 25 breech will get up to 880-900fps.

I want to hog out my .25 transfer port too…trying to get up to 880-900 fps with the 40 to 55gr .25 cast slugs I intend to use in standard bullpup arrangement. My intention is to use hollow-points to corn-hole some raccoon’s, polecats, armadillos, and possum, in and around the Hoot Nature Reclamation Center. (Humanely relocating dead animals for over seven years)

If you do that, I’d very much like to know how you managed to open it up a bit and still get an o-ring to seal the connecting parts.

Kind regards,

Uncle H 😯 😯 t

Nice looking string

KM…how are the eyes doing? You back to 20/20 yet? 😯
