Q:

240 Bar Shot Strings from my R3 .30 cal Long

So I had some free time this evening and decided to do a shot string. I was curious how the factory one looks.

By looking at the string I can tell that it want to shoot 915-920fps in order for string to be flat. I think its a bit too hot for my taste.

I put about 50 pellets through the gun before this shot string. I set it to shoot 885ish.

So to flatten the string I could crank up HST to shoot 915. This will give me less shots though.

What I will do is probably turn the regulator down half a turn (turn down hst of course). It shoud probably get me into 890s or so I hope.

Here it is 45 usable shots as it ships from Factory.

I think it was like that because regulator didnt settle in after adjustment. HST wouldnt go higher than 895 and would just get louder. So I backed in off back to normal 885.

Today I ran the string again and extreme spread is now around 5-7fps ! I think it will get better as parts break in!

I love this thing. 50 shots in .30 cal at 890fps! Yay!

Oh and when I got my gun from Tony it was detuned (shooting like 600fps as ED mentioned that some might be like that. Mine was)

F&D: Thanks for the kind words!

Your second shot string looks really great! 48 very usable shots out of a 30 cal R3 long is GOLDEN!

The Bobcat canโ€™t do that even with the added air tube extension plus, it is going to be way longer, way heavier and just fucking ugly!

HEY WAIT; did I just say that? I abase myself: I have had a few!

OK, I have taken my medicine and I am currently back on the subject. ๐Ÿ˜ณ

F&D, I assume that you tried maxing out the HST after the reg adjustment. The overall shot string looks good but; the extreme spread in each 10 shot segment makes me wonder if the HST is to light or if the regulator needs turned down a little and more HST added.

My 30 cal long shot in the 945s. I took it apart for pics and measurements and then tried my 25 cal breech and Hart barrel on the gun. The 30 cal will shoot my .257″ 44 grain cast bullet at 850 fps and I think that a hogged out transfer port on the 25 breech will get up to 880-900fps.

I want to play a little more with that setup and then I will try tuning the 30 cal.

F&D, what speeds did your gun shoot as delivered?

But he tells the girls it’s 3.5″? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

getting 35-40 shots from 215-130 bar. the allen screw right behind the trigger is there. the one that fell out is probably only 1/8″ long. i’ll have to take off stock and see if i can figure out where it came from.

Probably the stopper screw for HST. This is why its shooting so slow. HST most likely worked its way out lowering the FPS.

Agreed! Take the stock off and look at the hammer spring adjuster, the shiny thing that looks likes a Finnish hard-on…2.5″ long, and it is adjustable upwards by clockwise rotation, and lower fps by screwing it out counter-clockwise. That tiny hex screw fits in near where the shiny thing ends and it should be tightened “finger tight plus a bit” because it’s tiny and can be stripped. As F&D said, it holds the HST in place. You need to screw your HST in, probably not more than a turn or so, if that. Test it and when you get it right, hex it in and keep it there. I use a bit of loc-tite to hold it in place…the kind that you can pop lose if needed.

PS: Just realized an error…correction “Swedish hard-on…1.5″ long.”

How many shots do you get on a 220 or 240 fill at 820? Is the Allen screw missing right behind the trigger? Take a picture of it.

mine isn’t so hot. 2 tins in, shooting about 815-820, so need to turn it up a bit. also has an allen screw come from somewhere while shooting indoors today. glad i felt it hit my hand, or i might have missed that. luckily its POI is consistent.

I am glad I live pretty close to Tedd. We will have to hook up as the weather warms for some Edgun tuning mentoring. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ˜€

That’s a good looking adjusted string. My Standard 30 climbs slightly at the end but not nearly as much as yours did un-tuned. I’ll see how it is as I finish this second tin since my first string was after only about 20 shots. It is set at 871 avg FPS but might be happier at about 860.

Maybe oldgoat Tedd can chime in on my strings. He is the master when it comes to regulator tuning. I value his input.

ok, where is the cheat sheet? ๐Ÿ˜€

on HST – if you turn it in, what does it do to velocity?

How do you know if you need to adjust HST or Reg?

thanks in advance.

Nice job, string look so good… Love it

If you live close to me….. I need you turn my .30 cal…. I live in SoCal… Lol

=) I am in Seattle area. Bring it by and I will tune it for you, but you can do it yourself. It is not hard.

Our resident EDgun gurus on this forum can help you same as they helped me.

I am a very happy man now! :8:

Regulator turned down 1/4 turn. HST adjusted to 890fps.

I didn’t give a chance to regulator to settle down and filled it back to 240 bar and shot this string. I LOVE IT! And it will get flatter as regulator settle in a bit.

50 usable shots without HUMP at the end. :4:

Im thinking you may get like 48 shots on the reg. Nice looking stringโ€ฆ.. hows the accuracy ?
