Q:

25 cal shifting inpact?

I have had this gun about 2 months now, at first out of box it sucked bad it would not stay on a paper plate at 50 yards. I am using jsb exacts and h&n barracuda’s. Well I found the barrel bushing was not even securred to the barrel, i fixed that and it it shot good and still does. My problem is everytime i go out to shoot it has a diffrent point of impact than the last time I shot it, so needless to say I have to site it in everytime I go out wasting pellets and air to get it back into zero. I am zeroing in at 50 yards and it will put them in a tight little wad at 50. just diffrent poi. Is there a cure or is this normal for this gun? I had a maurader that never had this issue so I may sell this gun and buy another maurader.

After all the hype it must be tough to step aside.

Keep in touch fellas. 😆
Some are happier being a user rather than a builder.
Many of us are very happy with our successes and will be here for a long time buying parts and prices and adding new AF rifles to our repertoire.

Slayer,

Amen. Unless your on a first name basis with Tony or Dyotat your going to have these issues, and perhaps will anyway.

Problem is, AirForce does not have very good consistancy in dimensions of their parts and frames to start a project with.

Their frames are weak in that they flex badly.

The parts wear on each other.

They have to be maintained constantly for optimum performance.

And you have to sink far more treasure into them to get them to shoot as well as a premium air rifle and in turn have more in the rifle than a premium air rifle would cost.

They do have a very good research and develoment team tho, it can be found at Talonairgun.com. Airforce “adopts” the technology that we develope here and in the process of execution it is found lacking.

I sold my last one and will not get another. That particular air rifle, had been completely reworked for ergonomics, power and cosistancy by myself and Dyotat, and guess what, AirForce willl be coming out with a clone in the next few months but I doubt it will shoot as well or as consistant, and it certainly will not have the power..

In addition to Condors and Talon SS rifles, I have owned AA’s, Fx’s, XPAirguns, Haley’s and Theobens, in the end the higher quality rifles are much cheaper in that you really don’t have to do anything with them but shoot them. The intitial purchase may be twice as much or more but if you want a AirForce rifle to be as good as the imports, you will dump as much into them or more and stilll in the end, it will be inferior.

Things like Wok buts and Wok guards, Maddog stocks and off set tank adpaters, one peice valve stems, valves, hammers that don’t chatter, one piece bushings add up quickly, not to mention the time it takes to figure out why the rifle is wandering or changing POI or power. Your far better off getting a Daystate, FX, or a Air Arms rifle.

Now, if your a plinker, never shoot at paper, don’t mind a rifle with a unsafe safety or worse yet, the AirForce cure for it, for $600.00 you can’t go wrong.

What we need is a Dyotat replacement frame to bolt all his, WOKs and Tony’s parts to.

Hate to jump on the band wagon but I had the same issues. I traded (sold it) up to a Daystate Air Ranger. I have never adjusted that scope since original sight in. Take it out a year from now and dead squirrel at 50 yards! I am sure there are guys on here that have resolved it. I do not like to tinker I want an accurate rifle each and every ime i touch it!

Sounds exactly like the issue I have with my Condor. Very frustrating.

In search for the cure, I have added:

Maddog Hunter long stock (addresses frame flex)
changed to Dyotat’s 101 gram barrel guided hammer (addresses hammer chatter)
1 piece high performance tophat (no grub screws to come loose)
adopted a light hold
use both choked and dechoked LW barrels (dechoked for shooting slugs and choked for shooting pellets)

But, the thing I notice is that the bushing screws tend to come untight after a few days of shooting. I think the problem may be that the outer diameter of the bushings and the inner diameter of the frame don’t match well. I’ve tried putting on some nail polish along the periphery of the bushings (to increase the diameter of the bushings). Seems to make a tighter fit. But, eventually, the bushing screws seem to come untight.

As soon as Dyotat is ready, Doug’s going to make me one of his thicker custom 1 piece bushing (in addition to a new valve and shroud).

Yep, the tolerances of the Airforce guns are all over the place in most guns.

Aside from that, RC is dead on as usual.

Since improving my talon framed Condor, i’ve had to relearn how to PROPERLY shoot my gun. Not only does the hold have to be light, but it has to be consistent too. Pretty much now, shooting my Airforce is second nature and i don’t even concentrate on it anymore. Overall performance has improved 100 fold and i spend very LITTLE TIME doing “SIGHT-IN”.

Steve,

Assuming that everything is tight and your scope is of good quality and not lived on a springer and got the shit shaken out of it, or parallax is not an issue, then your experiencing some of the quirks of the AF platform.

Holding the rifle slightly different or a different rest translates into frame flex, and changes the POI. Maddog full length stocks can cure this problem, the WOK guard can relieve some of the problem.

Different air pressure in the tank can cause the POI to wander as well. Many AF guns experience this problem as the fill is depleted during shooting.

Different tempertures can cause the lube in the hammer raceway to react differently changing the velocity of the hammer and its impact with the breech. Many users use a graphite lube to cure this problem.

A loose top hat caused by loose top hat grub screws can change you POI, a one peice assembly or lock tight on the grub screws can prevent this.

It is just the nature of the beast some rifles do it and some rifles do not.
