Q:

25 caliber Mutant?

Seems I read somewhere that there could be a 25 caliber Mutant in the near future. Is there any truth to this?

I also doubt the velocity would be where I want it in a .25. I like that firecracker impact noise that needs at least 700 FPS impact velocity or so. That means a muzzle velocity of over 750 FPS minimum. We shall see.

Dear Soda…

The Mutant Shortys now come with a 14″ barrel…which Taipan quietly changed from the 11″ barrel on the first models!

I have easily hit 700+ FPS in .25 caliber with a 14″ barrel! In fact, with a bit of persuasion I got it up to 900+ FPS. I’m in the process of checking if I can buy the 14″ Shorty barrel for my .22 caliber. That extra 3″ can make all the difference in the world with FPS…

Hoot:

Say you can buy the 14″ barrel , its gonna run u min 150$ Now you still need to come up with the parts to convert your shroud. thats gonna run u another 50 – 100$.

just sell yours for 200$ less then new and buy a new one and be happy.

Any updates on the future availability of the 25cal Mutant?

Sometime in November! Probably late November.

It’s hard to argue with logic like that. 😛 My only hope is the clueless nature of Hillary supporters lets one of them buy it. The evil witch skates again. If they will vote for her for president – they might do just about anything. :suprisedn:

My dear Sudoku…

Owning a powerful, modded “Protect Your Nuts” AF pcp seems to be a lifetime arrangement.

They are very accurate, crazy powerful if desired, everything about them begs modification, fun to dress up, unlimited accessories, but if you ever decide to change…it’s akin to being married to a skinny, butt-ugly, stumpy, one-eyed, ill tempered, Democratic She-Bitch, endowed with a powerful right hook…handy to have around in a bar fight, but it’s like investing in a shiny new virgin, then trying to sell a heavily used whore for what you’ve got invested.

Great shooting little guns, but plan on owning it for life unless you want to give it away.

I always tell my wife the girth is much more important than the length. 😛

I sometimes switch out the .177 and .25 12″ inch barrels on my Stubby Talon but it has so much air and power on board that the 25 gr Kings are still over 850 FPS and there is nearly 500cc of air. That isn’t a bad gun with the Super Sear trigger set at 8 oz and Maddog stock. Very quiet and accurate. Anyone want to buy it? lol I just don’t shoot it much with the BPs. It has a custom brass trigger shoe and brass moderator end cap on it.

I am only interested in a Short Mutant at .177 at this point and it should have have plenty of air and power for that. It might be the ultimate High Sparrow(er) as they say on Game of Thrones.

I also doubt the velocity would be where I want it in a .25. I like that firecracker impact noise that needs at least 700 FPS impact velocity or so. That means a muzzle velocity of over 750 FPS minimum. We shall see.

Mike….you semi-literate, cow turd kicking, rattlesnake stomping, West Texas meat-eating, Harley-riding, pot bellied, Cow Person….(politically correct for the term “cowboy”)

While I said the Shortie was over priced for what you get, that doesn’t mean I don’t want one! I’m just as excited as the rest of these syphilis-infected, mouth-breathing, semi-literate, short-peckered, Hillary-loving, Eunuchs who are ranting over the Mutant Shortie, running around in public with their flies open and pissing down their leg. (no insult intended, not all of you piss down your legs…)

The simple fact is I’d have to skip my lung transplant again, and my oxygen level is so low now I look like a damn Smurf!!!

The hard facts of life are, at the fixed income age of 73, I can get my pending kidney/booster-testicle/corneal transplants, or own a Taipan Mutant Shortie. Short of that I could skip another cancer treatment, but the doctor has already told me his equipment no longer registers any positive indication of life signs in my lab tests! He says I should be concerned!

In other words, I can’t afford it. I’m not destitute…I could manage to pay shipping, but none of the dealers will work with me at that price mark-down.

Well…I’ve got to go now. Tonight is “Frog Night” for supper. I’ve got to walk around the lake and stomp toads, or I’ll be going to bed hungry.

Kindest regards…

Kindly ‘Ol Uncle Hoot:

i brought a standard in the end as it was cheaper and it seems a lot of people were putting LDCs on their baby mutants which made it same length as a standard but without the advantages of the extra power/shot count etc.

I don”t want to bad mouth the Shorty…it’s a well built, unique little gun, and I like the compact features…even with the performance trade-offs. But it bothers me that it’s price is so greatly inflated because it is the “unavailable” gun of the moment. Given the performance loss, it should be less expensive than the Standard or Long…

Gun’s like this tend to be “impulse” buys because you get caught up in all the hype. I’ve been there, done that, too many times! Always the same outcome, eventually I lost interest in the gun’s limited features/performance, ended up selling every one of them at a loss.

However, It’s your money, and if you want one, then make yourself happy. Life is short…no pun intended!

My dear glassy-eyed, mouth-breathing, semi-literate, fellow forum members…
What troubles me is the Mutant, in any caliber, is basically a retail $1100 gun, it likely wholesales for around $700 each. That’s a substantial markup, however we must remember airguns aren’t akin to groceries. A dealer only sells a few each month…if he’s lucky and has the latest popular model, so I don’t begrudge that profit margin. If a dealer can’t make money then why be in business?
Which brings me, fellow mutants, to the fact that $1400 – $1500 for a “Shorty” Mutant is an artificially high price, compared to the Standard Mutant. It’s marked up simply because it’s the model currently in vogue, all the rage, everyone is talking about it. Supply and demand is pushing the normal price up $300 – $400 for the Shorty.
While the Shorty is small, handy, and accurate, essentially so is the Standard Mutant. A Standard has more shot capacity, higher muzzle energy, and is quieter than the Shortie by virtue of it’s longer shroud.
The Shorty has an 11″ barrel. That’s smaller than most pcp pistols! It equates to a substantial loss of everything…fpe, fps, shot count, and an increase in muzzle noise. The Shorty is essentially a pistol mounted on a bullpup stock. AND…you are paying roughly a $100 premium for each inch reduced from the already short Standard model.
I simply don’t see the added value here. The build quality justifies the $1150 basic price for the Mutant brand. But when buying the Shorty, you are getting less gun for more money! When all the fuss dies down, you will very likely find the resale value will die down as well. For the money, Tony’s price for the Standard Mutant is the better buy! The only difference an additional 3″ to 4″ will ever make in any man’s life would be his love life!!!
By way of example…consider the Edgun Leyla subcompact bullpup. Once the fuss died down, we got precious few posts on performance, accuracy, etc. I’d be willing to wager the majority of the 12″ barrelled Leylas are collecting dust in closets everywhere.
Just my thoughts…and rough figures, when considering value vs. price….

Hoot your reasoning has changed my perspective on acquiring a Mutant shorty.

Kryptek camo vinyl wrap. Specifically Typhon.

What is that texture on your gun?
