25 caliber Mutant?
Seems I read somewhere that there could be a 25 caliber Mutant in the near future. Is there any truth to this?

While the Shorty is small, handy, and accurate, essentially so is the Standard Mutant. A Standard has more shot capacity, higher muzzle energy, and is quieter than the Shortie by virtue of it’s longer shroud.
The Shorty has an 11″ barrel. That’s smaller than most pcp pistols! It equates to a substantial loss of everything…fpe, fps, shot count, and an increase in muzzle noise.
I simply don’t see the added value here. The build quality justifies the $1150 basic price for the Mutant brand. But when buying the Shorty, you are getting less gun for more money! When all the fuss dies down, you will very likely find the resale value will die down as well. For the money, Tony’s price for the Standard Mutant is the better buy! The only difference an additional 3″ to 4″ will ever make in any man’s life would be his love life!!!

I prefer short over long bullpubs and the Mutant Standard is actually what I personally consider being the maximum length of a bullpub.
This said Uncle Hoot made good points, if you are into getting a new bullpub then maybe this is a good opportunity to get a Standard now and a Short later, probably anyway you will get both of them considering the very positive reviews of both of them.

What troubles me is the Mutant, in any caliber, is basically a retail $1100 gun, it likely wholesales for around $700 each. That’s a substantial markup, however we must remember airguns aren’t akin to groceries. A dealer only sells a few each month…if he’s lucky and has the latest popular model, so I don’t begrudge that profit margin. If a dealer can’t make money then why be in business?
Which brings me, fellow mutants, to the fact that $1400 – $1500 for a “Shorty” Mutant is an artificially high price, compared to the Standard Mutant. It’s marked up simply because it’s the model currently in vogue, all the rage, everyone is talking about it. Supply and demand is pushing the normal price up $300 – $400 for the Shorty.

By way of example…consider the Edgun Leyla subcompact bullpup. Once the fuss died down, we got precious few posts on performance, accuracy, etc. I’d be willing to wager the majority of the 12″ barrelled Leylas are collecting dust in closets everywhere.
Just my thoughts…and rough figures, when considering value vs. price….

I will have to sale one of my Crickets or my 22 Mutant to buy a new 25 Mutant,
I do not see me selling one, so I will just have to pass on the 25 mutant,
I just can not keep piling them in my gun safe.I have shot guns , center fires and rim fires I have not shot in years,
I wonder how long a PCP will sit idle. I really do not want to find out.

Its my understanding that the shorty Mutant 25 cal will be shooting 940fps .

If that’s the case sign me up ASAP,
Funny 940 FPS is my cut off in the 25 cal, a little tuning and I can see 980 FPS , That sets good with the 25 and the holdover at 100 yards.
I myself would like to send the gun straight to Earnest and say do your super tune and make it sing at 980 fps,,,

My 22 mutant still flips me out on some of the shots I have taken at 48 Max yards, I really need to get out to 100 yards and see the group it can do,

Nothing wrong with LW,
My Cricket 25 has a LW barrel and its right there with my CZ barrel 22 Cricket,
My 22 Mutant has a Listone barrel, Its just as accurate as My Crickets, Still have not made past 48 yards with it yet,
Its dead on at that range, Like to see what it will do at 100 yards when it dry’s up around here,

Currently I do not own a 25 caliber, looking for one that can shoot the JSB 34’s 900+ fps. STD or maybe the long might be my next purchase. That is only if the barrels are CZ.

If I converted it right , It looks close to 800 FPS = 70 Joules…

But I do not think this little gun will be able to shoot the 25 cal in the 940 FPS range, Not with any shot count.
And I do think the 25 needs to travel a little faster to stop the rainbow effect,
Sure you can drop the 25 cal down to 700 FPS range, But your going to be shooting at a pretty good angle at 75 yards,
