Q:

.257 Condor Breech Explosion

My breech exploded on my new .257 Condor after firing only 3 shots.I filled my carbon fiber tank to 3600psi loaded a 257420 in the chamber when I fired the gun the breech exploded and bent out the corner on my frame. I have one of Doug’s valves in a Talontunes carbon fiber tank with the TJ 32” barrel. Not very happy right now… 👿 Tony.

Take it perform right you need a valve and hammer.

Can someone tell me what do I need to make my .25 cal condor ss into a .257

You can turn the breech down some and press stainless liner on it, no more worrying if it’s going to explode on your face. i do all my breeches like that.

My bad all. On the original post i thought he was referring to tony not that his name was tony.

Sorry for causing confusion.

can that thing be caused by blowback kind of action, maybe the knocking knob is hitting the action body/tube.

Thats cool….

this was also in the thread….

Wow that thing split right down the middle. Glad you didnt eat any of the parts. If tony built the gun for you i am sure he will make right.

Just dont want people thinking that was one of my rifles….no big deal.

I don’t see where you were brought into this.

The original posters name is Tony if you were thinking he was referring to you. Just trying to figure it out.

I’m fixing his gun right now.

Oops

What is your question ?

???

That was not built by me….I do not do .257.
Don’t get me involved in this.

If the breech is made out of real delrin it shouldnt happen. Not sure what AF uses. I think they get what ever is cheapest for them and it’s hit or miss on its strength. It sure looks like delrin but doesn’t sound like it when you tap on the broken pieces. I have only seen a few that have broke and is usually with 3600 psi or more.

My original 257 had a delrin breech and never had a problem. I tested up to 4200 psi with it and 100 gr bullets. Also the barrel is .374″ so it was thinner. But I made it from delrin. Cedric’s gun is the same and his did pop off the end at the o ring groove in the top hat once.

But your right with aluminum it is safest but gun needs to cock with hammer to do so.

Yeah that’s why I said the only safe way to operate a juiced up one is by cocking the hammer itself then simply sliding the metal breech forward without anything to push, both my rifles have been converted to side cocker with milling machine for a long time now,
Anything above factory power should be like that, very easy to do, even if you ain’t got a milling machine something can be improvised I’m sure, if you run heavy hammer and higher fill pressures you are Guna shatter a standard on sooner or later,
Easy fix,, cut a slott in the side drill and tap your hammer to accept a cocking knob and make a small delrin bush to run on the groove but not necessary but feels nicer when cocking,, you only get one set of eyes so best not to gamble with them as I found out when it happened to me, and so did this guy with almost identical shatter pattern.

Metal breech doesn’t work real good. Works ok on a stock spring gun. As soon as you increase the hammer spring the breech tends to gall on the barrel. Cocking becomes difficult. Nothing works as good delrin.

Yes I do use aluminum breech but I don’t cock the gun with the breech. Just open and close to load.

I have a alli one and a brass one I got on flea bay but I’m sure one of the machinists on here could knock you one up mate
