.257 GOODNESS!
It finally all came together today, and Woo-Hoo!!!
I was having problems with accuracy and ofcourse neglegted the obvious area to look first. I talked to RC, and we both though it was probably a leading issue, but happily “NOT”!
My LDC has been very effective for my .25 with Kings, but was loud with the .257 barrel. Than, and I had each chamber wrapped with white scrubby pad type material to asorb a bit of the noise. But— The .257 blew it all to Hell! 😯 And was causing major clipping. We have all heard of the issues clipping causes, and yet, In my excitement, I never thought to check the LDC. 😳
Well, I did check it this morning, and it was a frigg’n Mess!
I re-did every thing, and took out all the stuff’ns. Which increased the interior volume. It was a lot quieter. NOt Doug’s LDC quiet, or Tonys Talon Tune Quiet, but not a big “KER_BOOM!
Now here’s the good part. She started shooting like a laser at the 80 yard range I had set up. And I do mean like a LASER!!!
I am going to try to post a few pic’s of the results. Note, the target shows the hits with the F’d up LDC and the final results with everything set-up right.

And of course tried to Hog the bench! Grrrr! Final results were .313 at 80 yards with 5 shots of the .257420 Hollow Points that RoachCreek cast up. Woo-Hoo!!!

Naw, I let them cool down a bit before I handle them and weigh them. 😛

RC,,the 750 model would probably do for me but it has a plastic case. Does the 1500 have a lead splatter resistant case or don’t you have it near the lead pot ❓

You can just let the hot lead burn the oil off the dipper.
You will not want to use the sawdust on a top dip pot, so use your flux, it will smoke like hell , but you can light the smoke to burn it off. Flux often, I do it every 10 dips, it is the grey oxidation your wanting to get off, it will end up inside a bullet or plug your dipper if you do not. If the flow on your dipper slows down, gently tap it on the top of your pot, it will clear up.
I can only get my RCBS 2500 to weigh bullets, I have checked the owners manual and there is not even a place to program it to mix drinks.

My new (1st 😆 ) melting pot is a 20 lb dipper. USPS is playing tiddley winks with the replacement part…..it went 70 miles past me and next goes back 70 miles the other way then directly here 🙄 Cost savings you know 👿 It was so much faster when they sent everything here first where we got to scan it for talcum powder 😉
I needed a good excuse to buy a new scale. Guess I won’t have to weigh 50 at a time then convert from grams to grains. For $250 that RCBS scale does talk and serve breakfast…doesn’t it ❓
BTW folks, this is all about putting all the goodness in the .257 
If your using a bottom pour pot, yes sawdust is said to work, it simply keeps the air out which causes oxidation which is also called dross, is what your trying to avoid, just make sure there is NO moisture in that sawdust, any moisture in that lead will cause the entire contents to explode in your face.
Always try to keep your lead alloy as pure as you can, but you can add some tin to reduce surface tension.
And this is so very important, clean that mold before you use it, I scrub my new disassembled mold with alcohol, then rinse, then I repeat with hot soapy water and rinse again with boiling water, and oil left on your mold will result in wrinkled useless bullets for a long, long time.
If you have an accurate scale it will tell you how your bullets are on the inside, meaning do you have bubbles or that oxidized lead or dross inside the bullet, when I say accurate that usually means expensive. I use a 250 dollar RCBS and that is after using a number of less expensive scales first, it is that consistent .10 of a grain your looking for, the cheaper scales start wandering as the heat up in prolonged use.
Enjoy your new hobby Lurker, and remember you can always melt them back down if they don’t turn out like you want them to.

I had to get a second ticket with service on my new pot but the enlarged photo of the gouge did the trick. New pot should be here tomorrow.
I got some new lead and a few pounds of slightly used pellets to get started filling a 257420 mould. I hear sawdust makes a good flux and have some saved up 😆 from my patio project. Also bought that expensive flux so lots to try and learn. If I make any pretty ones I’ll have to send them to you for testing as I haven’t ordered a valve or barrel to shoot them yet 😆

I got a 257420 die, lead and melting pot this week and will try to follow along. waiting to hear from Lee about a deep scratch in the bottom of the melting pot.

Sounds like you are having to much fun, better go on vacation now, that’s my wifes attitude is now, all I care about is my shit, she says, anyway we had to go on a trip this week-end. She used to love it when I was enjoying myself, well not since I bought the compressor, now she says I’m crazy. So I am glad someone is having a hell of a time, good luck, to yeah Mike.
Started having issues with accuracy again today. Found the problem. Bullet quality. Or lack of it. 😳 Seems I have a lot to learn about casting! That and having some breakage issues. The Super sear sheared, leaving me to go back to s stock suuuuucking set up. Wok sent a trigger shoe that helps a “LOT”!!! And it feels sooooo-Gooooo! 😀
The bases of the bullets I cast were slightly rounded on the edges, rather than sharp and crisp. The bullets RC sent shot very well.
RC told me I needed more lead in the pot in order to be able to pour with a bit more pressure to get the bullets completely filled out. Well, I found a small amount, and it did work.
I fired 5 good looking bullets at 55-60 yards into a small clover leaf. And 5 more at 80 yards and got a group well under an inch. .724 in fact. Woo-Hoo!!! 😀
We have all seen good accurate pellets, and inaccurate pellets that looked just fine. Guess Bullet quality of manufacture is the same. I had better up my game! 😆 😉 The Bbl. and caliber are up to it. Now I need to be!
Spent quite a bit of time fire lapping the barrel yesterday, and it really helped. Especially in the leading department. I was able to fire well over 60 shots today with no problems at all! It just got more and more accurate. :8:
