Q:

.257 up and shooting!

Got a package from Doug last week 😀 .257 valve! Oooooo yaaaa 😎 😎 😎 😎 I was exspecting it, so had a few hundred .257 bullets cast and ready to go.
The .257 barrel is a 1in 10 twist and just under24”.

Spent about 3 hrs last weekend firelaping the barrel. A messy job, but worth it. Cleans a lot easier and accuracy is a little better. Im going to enjoy shooting it for a while and maybe do another session with the firelaping in a couple weeks.

FPS is mid to upper 800s. I think the tighter twist and the shorter 24” barrel is going to keep me out of the 900s, but who knows when the barrel is broke in good it may gain some more.

That being said it shoots really hard and far. The gun report till impact time at 100yards is very short compared to pellets shot that far, so the .257 is still moving way fast down range.

I would love to check the speed about 60yards out, but I dont trust my shooting enough to risk my only Chrony 😯

The group in the pic was shot at 60yards. Have not shot paper at 100yards yet, but I did knock down some cans that far.

This cast bullet stuff is a lot of fun, but you need some serious power to move these heavy bullets down range and Doug’s valve more than gets it done!

10shots 60 yards

I don’t think 1000 fps will be any problem at all! Mine is only a 21″ bbl, with the smaller Dyotat valve, and I’m shooting 950+ now. 😀

I have a 28” .257 on order. That should really get things smoking 😎 hope to get close to 1000fps.

Thats what mine will be a 28″ barrel. Can’t wait to get it built. So much stuff going on this time of year. Can only work on it a little bit at a time.

I was shooting .25 jsbs for a few days sighting in a talon for some squirrel hunting.
Back now to shooting the .257 ,and what a Man Beast 😈 that thing is compared to pellets.

I should have mine back up and running sometime next week. Can’t wait!

Just recieved an Altros Reg from OldGoat today, but I need to get in touch with him, as I don’t know where it is set out put wise. I know he was using it on his .30 FX Boss, so kinda hopeing it can be used on the .257. If not, may be one day I can pick up a spare frame and build another pellet shooter. No way I’m giving up the .257 bullet Launcher! 😉

I’ve been reading every .257 post I can find with rabid curiosity. BIG Thanks to Knife, Tofaz, Dyotat, and all you other .257 guys I forgot for posting results and pictures. Keep em’ coming!

She’s really coming along! SWEET!!! 😀

Tag,

50 FPS?……………WOW! That’s super. Keep shooting her too. With 900 fps and the stock AF bottle, I would keep grouping to around 5 shots before topping off. When mine was tuned to 900 FPS with the LYMAN 257420 bullets, I would only shoot 5 shot groups and no more. The faster she goes, the tighter them groups become also……………

Looking good man.

Self induced fliers—–Seems I’m kinda familiar with those! 😳 😆

Well you guys were right about the groups getting better the more you shoot it.
This is a 10 shot 80yard group. The one at 1 oclock is not a flyer it hit right were I pulled it to 👿

Also, did some slight porting and polishing on the valve and polishing on the breech end of the barrel and miked out another 50fps.
Now Im getting 5 shots from 880 to just over 900fps from a stock AF tank, so… getting there 😀

😆 😆 😆 😆 😈

Well Mike, i’m sure its around 60-80 grit according to my wife. She said my rough cuticles and hang nails felt better…………. 😆 😆 😆 😆 😀

😆 😆 😆

Wonder what grit it is! 😀

Congrats TD! Too bad Tof didn’t take his tongue to it like he did mine. I think it helped with accuracy 😀
