3 Regulated FX Royale 500s: Updated (QC issues)
After much research and deliberation, two friends and I each decided collectively and individually that the FX Royale 500 w/reg would be our next airgun. After they saw my Talon SS at a recent airgun get together, they both decided they wanted their first PCP. I have had the itch for a .25 for a few months, so this was a perfect opportunity to do the research and pull the trigger.
Other top contenders included the Daystate Airwolf MCT in .25 and Royale 400 w/reg in .22, but the FX Royale 500 w/reg edged them out. Go big or go home, so it was .25 all the way.
We all settled on the Hawke Sidewinder 30 Tactical 6.5-20X 1/2 Mildot and Holland’s Scope levels. We took delivery on Monday and unboxed them today, mounted and leveled the scopes, pumped up the tanks, and hit the range.
We got them all zeroed 2″ high at 25 yards within 6 shots each to get them on paper, then zeroed them at 50yrds. Once zeroed, groups of one quarter sized ragged hole were the norm at 50 yards. All three guns were cleaned with Patchworm kits using Ballistol then dry patches. The bores were extremely dirty.
All three of us were able to hit shotshells at 70 yards with JSB 25.4gr Kings with a one mil-dot hold over. Today was shooting for fun, next trip to the range will include paper punching for groups. The 500 is an incredibly accurate and extremely quiet air rifle.
I brought my .22 TT TSS along for the opportunity to shoot it at 70 yards since some recent upgrades. I was thrilled with the performance as I was easily able to repeatedly hit a pill bottle shot after shot at 70 yards with a 2 mil-dot holdover (35yrd zero), also with the Hawke Sidewinder 30 Tactical 6.5-20X 1/2 Mildot scope. Incredible performance for a 12 inch barrel.
All in all it was a great day of airgunning.

1. Re: The mismarked serial number engraving – I’ve stated my position/opinion on it, I consider it a “blemish” (as I believe most manufacturers would), not an “A” stock product that should be sold at full price. While it may not affect how the gun shoots, IMHO it reflects poorly on QC to let that out the door, and it could negatively affect the resale value. I disagree with the analogy others have made (maybe tongue in cheek) that it will somehow be a “collector’s item” like a double stamped penny or other rare coins.
2. Re: The safety markings. I’ve handled *a lot* of firearms of various types from numerous manufacturers, and I have access to an extensive firearms library reference collection. I was and would still be considered a Subject Matter Expert in the area of firearms. It took me a few seconds to understand the operation and markings of the safety, and it was not instantly obvious. IMHO the safety markings and operation should be instantly obvious to anyone who picks up any gun, whether it’s a firearm or airgun. The markings on the FX 500 are not the most intuitive IMHO. If they want to make it clearer and instantly obvious, I would propose making the “F” (FIRE) RED which is exposed when the gun is on FIRE. RED=DEAD.

Re: Comments that someone else’s two FX guns were both shot and are tackdrivers… All three of our FX guns were tack drivers, but unfortunately they all had QC issues that were unacceptable on $1800 guns regardless of how accurate they are or were. Irrelevant.

So maybe he confused the fire/safe, so the only one left to “interpretation” is the leaking bottle.

I think it’s not only whine worthy, i’d be asking for a FULL fucking refund, but good luck getting that from the conjobs at AoA, they will probably just send another rejected rifle as a replacement…

Do you have a single shot tray? Any issues with the JSB Kings? We were having feeding issues with about 80% of them nose diving and hanging up and binding entering the breech. We’re wondering if it’s the gun, single shot trays, or a combo of the single shot trays and JSBs. No problems running them through the magazine.
I can tell you that with all three of my Daystate guns I had to “center” the pellet probe to get the pellets to feed straight into the breech. To find out if the probe is centered load a pellet and then use a wooden dowel to run down the barrel and push the pellet back against the probe hard enough to mark it. Open the bolt and push the pellet back out and look to see if the probe indentation is centered on the back end of the pellet.
Figure out which way the end of the probe needs to be moved to center it.
Us a small boxend wrench to carefully bend the end of the probe to center it. You may need to remove the scope to do this properly.
Worked wonders for single shot loading my MK4’s and Air Wolf.

Looks like a programming/machine translation error rather than a possibility of a copy (which was more of a joke really). I’m sure FX would be very on top of copycats. 😉

My gun and Pete’s gun are 2 serial numbers apart, both reg’d 500s. They’re both genuine FX, just ones with some serious QC issues that went out the door. Never noticed the difference in the cutout for the power wheel on our 2 guns! Very odd..

The MVT had some issues based on a lot of reports. It was a little too complicated 😉 MCT is the way to go.
Sweet scope, out of my league, costs more than the Wolf MCT Tactical and that says a lot. I have the “poor man’s version”, a Hawke Sidewinder 30 Tactical 6.5-20X42 1/2 Mildot which is a great scope for the money IMHO. Love that etched reticle and the optics are good enough for 120 yard max I’d probably be comfortable on small game.
You ought to get the MVT model, it has a built in crony!!

let us know,I want a 25. and I liked the royal because of it superior shroud. I love my air ranger in 22, but the fracking thing is loud in factory specs/needs more shrouding..
