3 Regulated FX Royale 500s: Updated (QC issues)
After much research and deliberation, two friends and I each decided collectively and individually that the FX Royale 500 w/reg would be our next airgun. After they saw my Talon SS at a recent airgun get together, they both decided they wanted their first PCP. I have had the itch for a .25 for a few months, so this was a perfect opportunity to do the research and pull the trigger.
Other top contenders included the Daystate Airwolf MCT in .25 and Royale 400 w/reg in .22, but the FX Royale 500 w/reg edged them out. Go big or go home, so it was .25 all the way.
We all settled on the Hawke Sidewinder 30 Tactical 6.5-20X 1/2 Mildot and Holland’s Scope levels. We took delivery on Monday and unboxed them today, mounted and leveled the scopes, pumped up the tanks, and hit the range.
We got them all zeroed 2″ high at 25 yards within 6 shots each to get them on paper, then zeroed them at 50yrds. Once zeroed, groups of one quarter sized ragged hole were the norm at 50 yards. All three guns were cleaned with Patchworm kits using Ballistol then dry patches. The bores were extremely dirty.
All three of us were able to hit shotshells at 70 yards with JSB 25.4gr Kings with a one mil-dot hold over. Today was shooting for fun, next trip to the range will include paper punching for groups. The 500 is an incredibly accurate and extremely quiet air rifle.
I brought my .22 TT TSS along for the opportunity to shoot it at 70 yards since some recent upgrades. I was thrilled with the performance as I was easily able to repeatedly hit a pill bottle shot after shot at 70 yards with a 2 mil-dot holdover (35yrd zero), also with the Hawke Sidewinder 30 Tactical 6.5-20X 1/2 Mildot scope. Incredible performance for a 12 inch barrel.
All in all it was a great day of airgunning.

The local population definitely has declined noticeably, sightings are more infrequent for sure. Pesting is a double-edged sword :wink:, if you’re effective you’ll have fewer targets. I was away on a trip this week and one got complacent in my absence and paid the price yesterday.
No troubles in any of the three guns with the magazines & 25.4gr JSB Exact Kings. We did notice that with single shot trays, the JSB’s short, fat heavy nose tended to nose dive while transitioning from the tray into the breech and would often time hang up. Will do further testing with the Predator Polymags to see if it is limited to the Kings. There are some reports on YF that a recent batch of 500s has a known feeding problem from the factory that needs to be corrected. Hope our guns don’t have to go back but for $1800 I want it right.
We did practice some simultaneous fire like the SEAL snipers vs the Somali pirates during the rescue of the Maersk Alabama’s captain. Two simultaneous hits on a pill bottle at 70 yrds, the third guy was a millisecond too slow. We need more practice.
Speaking of the JSB factory… each of us got 7 tins of Kings and we have another order for 18 on the way from PA along with 3 tins of Predator Polymags 😈

Did any of you guys have “tight” magazines, where the pellets didn’t just drop in? Cycles fine, just was tight to load until I shaved out some chambers. I’m beginning to wonder if AOA sent me a quirky, returned mag. If I had known, I would’ve got mine from Jim. Might need to get another mag from him.
If you all go hunting, it’ll be hard to resist all three of you aiming at the same rodent; that would be a humane kill!
RC, at least Wednesday is coming one hour sooner.
JSB needs a US manufacturing plant so we can invest in its stock and lead futures.
I am glad my 400 magazine responded well to the mod on it, because that single shot tray is a real pain in the ass.

Thanks Roachcreek. We were like three kids on Christmas Day morning.
All three of them were consistently dead on at 70yrds (with holdover) with a lot of energy delivered, using the magazine and single shot tray. The sound of the pellets impacting on the wet dirt burm backstop made quite a whack. Can’t wait to put it/them up against some critters.
Killer deal on yours, congrats. Can’t wait to see you put it through its paces at the longer ranges. It will complement your 400 nicely.
One thing we did notice is that the head-heavy JSB 25.4 Kings can be a pain to single load. The skirt would often hang on the edge of the breech due to the shape and size of the head. No problems through the magazine, smooth as butter.
That has to be really cool that all three of you have those, and that velocity they should be tack drivers.
Mine gets in on the 14th according to UPS, they changed the date.

All three rifles were chrony’d prior to shipping and they were all shooting around 880fps 43-44FPE with the Kings.
Any idea what your velocity is on the 500’s?

Do you have a single shot tray? Any issues with the JSB Kings? We were having feeding issues with about 80% of them nose diving and hanging up and binding entering the breech. We’re wondering if it’s the gun, single shot trays, or a combo of the single shot trays and JSBs. No problems running them through the magazine.
