Q:

.308 Build

Ordered all the pieces from AF today so I can build my .308 Condor. Frame, trigger asembly, power wheel, fore arm grip. I have 28″ barrel and bigbore Blod valve. I will make everything else. Lathe is going to be here around 12:00 tomorrow. Can’t wait to start making things on a real lathe. I will then have .22 .25 and .308. Want to try and break 400 fpe with .308.

Thank you for sharing me this.

It is a .975″x3.5″ x I think .082″ 13lb spring.

Hi, Doug.
What is wire OD ,lenght and force of your spring in the last .308 condor that you build.
Thank you.

OK, I get it now. Thanks Doug.

No the barrel is formed around this as it is hammered and pulled through.

So it cuts the rifling into the barrel?

That is the mandrel to make the hammer forged TJ’s barrel. That is pulled through the barrel as the barrel is hammered.

First of, sorry to hear your baby is gone 🙁 Second congrats on the new one 😀 .
Doug whats the mandrel for?

Frame has been striped at the anodizer. It is just bare aluminum. When I’m done it will be bead blasted and anodized.

This frame was blue when I bought it.

That is just one fine looking rifle, nice job. Looks like you bead blast the frame and clear hard anodized it?

Sold my .308 today. I guess if someone offers you enough you will sell something you didn’t want to. This was my baby and I never planed on selling it.

I did start on a new .308 the end of last year. I had a mandrel made so I could have a 1-14 4 groove barrel made. I have made a piece here and a piece there when I have had time. Main reason to get it together is to test the barrel and see how it works.

Here is the mandrel

The shinny spot on the mandrel is where the barrel is made. I’m sending it back and have him take .0005″ off of it. Barrel slugs at .30835″-.30840″ and I want to get it under .30800″.

This .308 is exactly like my .257.

thats a beast

A powerwheel, man your work is going to be cut out for you if you can get that to work, good luck Doug, you always amaze me how you do it, and probably alot of others, your work is second to none that I know of, and if it can be done you’ll find the way.

Pics are gone so I’m putting them back.

I know I’m super late with this post, finally got my account working here, it was clearly operator error. 😎

Doug, truly work you should be very proud of.

Worth the wait for the .308

Thanks again for getting me on the list

Kevin P.
