Q:

4 Tank dumps in a row

Yesterday I had 4 tank dumps in a row.Not total but from 2700 to 1000 psi Took every thing apart and found my one piece top hat is slightly bent at the holes would this cause my problems or is there something else causing this. I have a 18″ .22 barrel with a condor valve ,heavy hammer putting out over 55 flb when this started to happen .

Oops. That sucks.

Well after 6 dumps , a dead shroud , and a few hours scratching my head I think it was dry breach seals

Check the tophat gap. If the tophat came loose and worked itself out, to big of a gap will cause a dump.

Be careful because some substances can ignite under high pressure I think, something happened to MM… where using super glue caused his stem seal to burn away.

yep… check that retainer to make sure it hasn’t backed out.
and use a wee bit of lock tight or even finger nail polish on the threads to keep it in place

HOw did you put the valve spring retainer nut back on, if it bakced off it could be causing the dump,

this is something that will happen with the condors, when mine was new at around 1000 shots or so mine dumped , pulled itapart and the nut ha backed off, i did allot of work on the gun at this time , but put some white thread tape on there to keep the nut from moveing when put back together

Hmmm….. are the breech 0-rings well lubed, they might cause the breech to stick in the backwards position with the gun is fired causing a tank dump.

Other than that it has to be something to do with your hammer arrangement

have you been inside of the valve? you may want to check the spring retainer inside

Yup spring retainer is tight, actually 2 weeks ago I had it apart and polished the inside of the retainer to a mirror finish, and it was fine for 2 weeks do you think that would have any thing to do with it, I only used a dremel polishing wheel and mothers metal polish so I only a very very little metal was removed.

Put the original stem back in, seems like the most likely problem to me

Yup did that and still dumps

x2,

though you may want to replace that hammer/weight with a TT hammer. same weight(TT talon=AF condor), but it will reduce your preload.

Put the original stem back in, seems like the most likely problem to me

quote moneyshot:

how much preload you got??

well I would think a little bit ,Heavy hammer same length as stock and I also have the condor weight in it , with the preload adjuster i cant go past 11 or I get coil bind and it won’t catch when cocking. But today with the preload adjuster at 0 I still got a dump . Its got me stumped because for weeks it has been fine shooting great and all of a sudden went south. Tomorrow Ill take out the condor weight and call Airforce and order a new spring for the valve .

how much preload you got??

I think I found my problem, The breach nob might be getting hung up on the frame I have to go get a new spacer to get it above the frame cutouts, I hope
