Q:

410 Accuracy

Now that I have a bench rest and have been able to shoot my 410 without my poor form being a factor I’ve noticed that it isnt quite 1 hole accurate.

The groups arent big, but one shot will be noticably left of the bull, the next will be to the right, then a couple above or below.

I dont know if this is a new problem as I’ve always shot it either offhand or an impromptu rest consisting of a tree or my knee and its always been fine for shooting squirrels.

I shot it in a competition last weekend and scored just 4 points behind a BSA S-10 in terribly windy condition’s – but still noticed that in my basement or in my yard with no wind and using my only other PCP as a comparison that it is not as accurate as my Talon SS.

So I’m going to remove my shroud, shoot a group without to see if thats an issue.

Is power level a factor with accuracy with these? I used to shoot full power or around 12 fpe, but recently have had it set to 22fpe….

Saugus, that was my only gripe about my 410. That barrel band just didnt keep the shroud consistent. I would recenter it, tighten it down and go out shooting. Could come back, loosen the screws and the shroud would move. I never quite figured out why, I was always careful to not bump the shroud.

So I made this.

And put it in this.

Its been finished since those pics were taken, now both tubes match and the glue doesnt show. 😉

Not sure if this is relevant or not, but when I first went to pick up my 410 at PAG, I shouldered it just to see how it felt, so my view was looking straight down the lenght of the scopeless gun. I noticed that the barrel, (or shroud) actually curved towards the end, and wasn’t top dead center over the air tube at the end. I brought this to Steve’s attention, where he claimed this happens often during shipping where things get banged around sometimes.

He said “No big deal” and just loosened the barrel band, and the barrel/shroud seemed to natually pop back in it’s correct spot… Lord knows what I would have experienced back home accuracy wise if I never noticed that.

I guess this is just more than a comment than anything else, but if this doesn’t sound right, let me know.

interesting YN. I have a Logun Solo that is FACTORY shrouded just like the AA410 series guns and until recently, I’ve never been satisfied with the accuracy although i can nail mostly anything i aim at. After making some executive decisions, i decided to either sell the gun or transform it. I decided to transform it into something that i never had before. The .20 cal. Anyway, removed the scope then removed the factory shrouded barrel, then looked down the barrels muzzle end with a light and i could visibly see the barrel was not concentric with the shroud. Could visibly see a difference no matter how i looked into the muzzle end of the shrouded barrel. There was my problem. I also could not remove the barrel from the shroud so i just ordered a 16mm .20 LW barrel that i am having machined down to fit inside the LS receiver.

Anyway, just seems like you might be having the same issue i have. Except your 20 yrd groups were better than my 10 yrds groups…..AND IT AINT ME…ITS THE GUN…LOL! I honestly don’t think shooting an airgun at full power (20-30 FPE) would make it inaccurate..especially if it is .22 cal or bigger. Thats nothing. 30 fpe with JSB 16 gr is like 920 FPS.

Hey YN.

My 410 seems to be a bit odd some days, but it always prints under .75″ at 50 yards with JSB heavies.

I have one or three targets that look like yours at 50 yards. It happens, but not every time.

Any other pellet and it gets good groups, but not as consistent.

Also, with a 2900psi fill, I find shots 5-20 are the most consistent. After 20 fps starts to slowly drop off.

I shoot at full power, considering tuning it down a tad and seeing what happens.

Looks like you’re back in the saddle again… sweet

No idea what the problem was – It might even have just been me, I sometimes have bad shooting days, but I guess this was a bad week….

Same setup as before, this –

got me this –

Five shot group, full power at 20 yards.

I tried to take the shroud off and need a strap wrench…

Instead I shot it at 10m and its shooting 1 holers again at that distance with no flier’s….

Will check it out at 35 yards later when Neighbour gets done outside.

You should be a happy fella… Most likely YN has a issue or two that don’t seem to be inherent with AA rifles in general.

YN, I have the erb extra so this may not count, but as far as power vs accuracy, I have noticed that my groups seem to open up a bit on the highest power, (30+ fpe) but then again I’m still learning my gun and have no bi pod yet, just resting gun on a small step stool, so it’s kind of wobbly.
groups seem to get way tighter if I shoot at 1/2 power or a little more. I thought JSB’s were working good in the gun, and they were, but when I dropped the fill pressue from 29 to 2800 and switched to CP’s for the first time…whoa.. like lazer accurate. Right away i shot 4 pellets in the same hole, with the hole never getting bigger than the hole the 1st pellet made, and dead on the bull.

Try CP’s when you get the chance, can’t hurt

With my ERB pellet selection really makes a difference. JSB exacts are really great. Kodiaks are good, but not as good as JSB, and the Predator Polymags were all over the target. The gun will shoot groups smaller than .5″ with JSB at 40 yards and then one minute later shoot the Polymags into 3″ groups. Very strange.

I’m one guy out of MANY happy owner’s (and I’m still happy with it, just trouble shooting a potential issue).

The fix for the shroud issue is simple and so far out of a ton of guys who own them, I’ve only heard of 1 person who had to remove their shroud for accuracy (with me potentially being the second).

Its the stock side lever shroud, I’ve heard from other’s that an o-ring inside can come dislidged or something and cause a baffle to cant and clip.

what kind of shroud do you have on your s410.
is it a shroud you made yourself?
