Q:

852.6 FPE!

I got my new molds from Accurate Molds on Saturday while I was away shooting. Don’t believe that banner on the site that says three week turn-around, I had my molds in a week and they are fantastic!

That’s the new 664gr, a 2220gr .452 Raptor for comparison, and the new 677gr. Those slugs are from the first 10 cast from each mold so they will clean up a bit later but those are fantastic first pours. These are great molds, you are looking at unsized slugs and the parting line is facing you. Hard to tell, isn’t it? No hair at all and the alignment is as close to perfect as I’ve ever seen on a mold. The size is so good that I don’t need to size these slugs, they are exactly the size I specified. I’ll have to go to the Accurate Molds website and see if there’s a place to post some kudos as these are a great product.

Butcher and you other hunters that like big meplats, look at that, these things meplat is a full .45!

Here’s the gun:

And here’s a closeup of the hand inlayed Elk cheek rest that RC covets… 😉

So, PJ and I decide we need to know how much power the gun makes with another 100 grains or so in the chamber…

The 677gr slug chrony’d at 753fps for 852.6 FPE and the 664gr slug chrony’d at 748 for 825.1 FPE. I’m not sure why the lighter slug went a little slower. I was trying for equal fills but might have not gotten it right. In any case, the lighter (and slower) slug hit higher than POA and the heavy slug was hitting dead on. Curious, but we can’t do extensive testing here due to the noise. AJ (my youngest) said he heard the gun go off when he was at the bus stop and it caused his friend to fall off his skateboard…

Here’s a video of what the gun does to a melon (if you hit it) at 100 yards. The vide was taken the same day the new molds came in so I was using 575gr slugs not having any new ones cast yet. So, you’re probably looking at about 680 FPE on the Melon but that’s a guess plus or minus 20 FPE or so.

.62caliber with a .45 meplat………I am leaning towards betting that those will be very accurate out there at long range, as the meplat size isn’t at all extreme considering the caliber (try telling a critter that, though lol!).

That’s right. Thanx for the reminder Jerry. I was gonna put it in a cooler anyways so that info is great news.

Defintely wanna hit it with my 148 gr HPs n 308 and my 310 gr 457 HP. Gonna look into it.

But yeah, for your bullets and guns man, might have to sit 4 of those GEL blocks end to end….lol

Ced,

Remember the posts where Gary and i were shooting the ballistic gell? I drove that gell more than 2 hours just to get to Gary’s place and you know how long it takes us to get to the range after breakfast! The gell is pretty stable. But since we shot a .45 ball through about 4 feet of the stuff, I figure I’d have to amke a lot to check a gun/slug with about 4 times the power…

Butcher,

Sorry I missed the earlier question. This is a .62 caliber. These new slugs are actually .619 to be precise and these molds are damn precise! I don’t need to size these slugs (I’ve checked) as they are round and the size I asked for. I’d love to call in a yote but that is unlikely due to my location and shooting circumstances. I have no doubt that these or the standard slug would just core a big dog… We do see fox ocassionally and ground hogs are a help to the property owner. Oh, I downloaded calls, including predator calls, onto my phone! I wonder if this will work? It will be fun at meetings in any case!

RC,

We’ve been in touch with the MD DNR and they are interested in revising airgun hunting regs based on actual experience. I’ll ask if they would like to see a steer corpse perforated! To date, none of the DNR guys have asked for that kind of demo, I don’t think they doubt the ultimate penetration, they just need to witness the effective use of these guns.

Jerry,

Instead of ballist gelatin.

You need to buy a butcher ready steer, have a mobile butcher truck standing by, then take a mexican heart shot on the steer and let the butcher crew go at it, while you photo the autopsy.

Winter meat, entertainment and education at the same time.

Roachcreek

Jerry are these designs regular catalog offerings? Can’t wait to see some worthy of the paint, and see them punch some paper!

Any chance you might attempt calling a coyote in to that thing? 😈

Me to Jer. I want to buy some Ball. Gel mix but, i would want to take it outdoor with me. I dunno, gotta look into good ways of transporting it once i get it to set. Guess i could shoot it in my garage….hummmmmmmmm

Ced,

I need to shoot some cinder blocks and stuff that is a little harder than melons. Blowing stuff up into clouds of spray is just fun!

I’m also told I need to mix up a huge batch of ballistic gel. I don’t think I can afford enough of the mix to get a penetration result with this gun!

45 cal MEPLAT. WOW, i’m giggling like a little school girl..lol Those bullets do look good.

Those bullets are damn big and man did the other weight smack the hell outta the mellon in the video.

DAMN!!

Yeah, the Eotech fits me really well also. The straight stock must help as it feels very natural to align the gun.

With the newer stocks with the comb they use on the SamYangs now, I could see how it may be a bit (Edited meant to say low instead of high) low actually….. On the older-style 909 stocks without the comb (which seem more suited for open sites), the Eotech works really well.

kapow 850 fpe fucking impresive

eotechs are cool….but they sit very high imho…i had a 552 for my ruger mk3…but went with open sights

I have two EOTechs. One on a Browning Buck Mark stainless target pistol and one on an M4. I love them.

Butcher, the Eotech rocks! Kinda hard on the longer range shots but it works out to 200 when it’s bright enough to see anything.

How about those slugs eh? Yeah, I expect they’ll pass through and leave a mess.

Yes, I think we have enough power for deer!

What’s the caliber again? Still rocking the Eotech I see…..so awesome!

I have a feeling that those slugs are going to make it to the other side hehehe!

Accurate molds has a lot of great stuff to offer especially when talking big game hunting designs in the larger bore diameters. It’s refreshing to hear about another great American product with great service, doing it the right way.
