Good to know info. Thanks.

I read somewhere that any small dings or fair sized scratches would cause a carbon fiber to fail hydro.

How bad are the scratches at the bottom o the tank? Wonder if it would be safe to take them out with a little sanding?

What are they good for once the 15 year life expires.

if you have a compressor or a friend who does, nbd. As long as in good physical condition.

DOT is now considering removing the 15yr service life, making continued certification possible as long as the tank passes hydro. legislation pending.

Progress is slow, all “composite” tanks used to be 3yr hydro, now carbon cylinders are 5 yr. (I think if manufactured after 1997 iirc) From what I’ve researched, DOT is basically waiting for the carbon tanks to develop enough of a track record to be sure of any possible safety issues before removing the 15yr service life and requiring just a 5yr hydro as the ali tanks do currently. fiberglass “hoop wrapped” cylinders are still required hydro every 3 yrs.

hydro on that one will be every 5 yrs.

You need a new hydro.

Cool man, I missed out. When I went to get one they apparently were all gone.

I got my tank in today. Looks good, no damage, valve is in great shape. The Test on it was May-2002. How long is a hydrotest good for ?

Later
