A Serious Question About Springers/Pneumatic Pump Air Rifles
What is the best quality springer/pneumatic break action rifle on the market now.
I am not interested in the high dollar field trial rifles, rather something in .22 or .25 caliber and known for accuracy and power.
Is it still Beeman/HW? Or is there a contender out there to match or exceed their performance?
The best springer I ever owned was an HW 55 back in 1975, and it was a genuine fine piece of equipment. No safety, but it had a barrel latch, the milling and machine work was flawless, and the wood beautiful. It must have weighed 11 lbs, but I loved it. I just didn’t know what I had at that time, so I traded it in on a firearm a few years later.
Kind of thinking of picking one up so I can still shoot when I don’t have access to compressed air.

my vote would be to purchase a used R1 Carbine in .22 and send it out for a rebuild and full tune
base rifles can be found well under $400.00
bought 2 R1s off the yellow in the past 8 months under $300.00 each
the other option would be a FWB 127 with a similar rebuild and tune
btw, you can find HW50s in the same pricing if I don’t beat you to them
facts are either of the above are better than most anything being built now other than a TX.
further you likely not lose a cent on your investment if you buy your base gun right
another option a bit cruder are some of the higher grade Chinese break barrels offerred by Mike Melick with his special tunes
damn fine rifles for the money he charges
Mike does great work on these and he is one of the more top flight dudes in the community when it comes to general integrity in how he conducts himself business wise
Probably best to stay with 22 cal for a springer…
The TX200 in 22 ain’t too shabby, it is close to $600 though. 😯

Uncle Hoot I am surprised with you. Why not put your money into a Shoebox compressor and not run out of air? Springers are, well, springers. Twang, klank, klunk, thud, brrrrr. Arrggh! That’s what drove me to PCP guns. I don’t think the availability of air should set you back 20 years. On the other hand, if you just have the itch for a springer that’s different. Tha being said, Cygnus X is reall happy with his gas ram gun…a Benjamin Regal I believe. Perhaps you should be looking at gas ram guns?
