AGD and AGN "The Long Rangers" competition, My Taipan gets it done. 200 yards now 250.
I know many of you venture over to AGN every now and again but they are teamed up with AGD for their “The Long Rangers” competition where you have to hit a plastic golf ball supplied by Airgun Depot at 150 yards or more. I decided to poke my nose into that thread and began posting there. I couldn’t just talk the talk, I knew I had to walk the walk so I decided to finally attempt this challenge. And let me tell you, it isn’t easy.
I opted to go all out and hit the golf ball at 200 yards. I tried hard with JSB Kings 25.39 grain pellets but those crosswinds made mincemeat out of the lighter pellets out that far. What the wind is doing from where you’re taking your shot are not necessarily what’s happening near your target. So I jumped up to the 33.95gr JSB’s and the Taipan began to shine.
Anyway, here is my video of hitting the GB @ 202 yards…

Is it who is in the lead or a random drawing…ahem
Yeah, I’ve got an FX guy riding hard on my tail. I suppose I “earned” my place in the “drawing” when I qualified at 200. Then it got DARK and testosterone started flying everywhere and it’s evolved into a sort of personal challenge to one-up the other. I don’t imagine they’d appreciate it too much over at airgun depot should a brand they don’t sell take the leader board and the “win” the “drawing” when the time comes.
I got that guy with the FX Boss touting me he’ll push to 300. I’ll just let him take the cake if he wants it. For me to push out any further is gonna take adjustable rings, even with my built-in 20 MOA rail. I think he’s got adjustable rings and shooting .30 cal. If he gets out there it’ll be an FX wet dream come true. Then at that point it’s time we all hit up Taipan to come out with a .30 air gun.
Hey Bill…

Keep that in mind should I need to push out further. I think I’ll take a back seat now if anyone should knock me out of the “lead”.
For long distance shooting weighing pellets can greatly reduce the group size ……
The last time I checked Heavies varied as much as 1g from just a 12 pellet sample, but IDK if JSB Heavy has improved since then.
With all else being ideal, a 1g variation at 250 yards traveling at 827 fps will have about a (+ and -) 6 inches of difference in the elevation at the POA.

You’re probably right. Another “excuse” it took me 38 shots is straight up, I forgot my damn Fieldpod Magnum. I realized when I got there after going all the way home because “I got no balls”. The table was not adjustable and my canvas chair was too low. I should have adjusted my bipod’s legs forward one more notch but didn’t even think about that as I was already stewing in the sun. I was in such an awkward position trying to get on target and was not at a restful state. And at that distance and the wind coming from behind, if it whips up or dies down would affect elevation as well. But you’re probably right, had I weighed pellets then I could have gotten on target much sooner. Also If I had the ball placed against a dirt mound so I could see my pellet hits exactly. I couldn’t find a place that had a long clearing and a berm. It was one or the other. Grrrr.
.
But if no rules on you can sort them pellets, especially with the heavies !
Roll them and weigh them ……..
At least weigh them, they’re the most likely the reason for the low shots you had, not the inconsistency in your gun/regulator nor the shooters but in the King Heavies weight variance.
After which u should be able to hit the ball at that range within a mag or so.

~ GReg, p.s. even if they sadly add in more rules, good luck on winning that Impact Bill !!
Eh, now airgun depot is claiming those entries from outside the US won’t be allowed into the drawing for the Impact. With that out of the way, it would be nice to see what others across the pond can do with the powder filled ping pong balls.
Well, it’s not about who shoots the furthest to be entered into the drawing. One needs only to hit the ball at 150 and follow their not so strict guidelines… of which they themselves, Airgun Depot, are bending their own rules. It’s sort of a bitchslap to my face for taking the time to take this shit seriously. They’re letting a guy set up his gun optimally to accomplish this shot and allowing him to have his wife or sister or whatever take the shot that’s already been perfectly set up for the current conditions, make a hit and then enter the drawing. BAAM! They just doubled their chances and screwed mine over.
Also you’re supposed to use an Airgun Depot provided plastic golf ball but now they post up on their sight a couple dudes using G-damn DIY ping pong balls filled with powder. Fuck man, I drove miles out to my spot, forgot my damn ball and then drove all the way home and went back out to comply with their rules. Then I get home and check their website only to see some yahoo’s being posted up on their wall. That’s some bullshit right there.
What I take from this now is not that I’ll be winning any drawing but what I am doing is putting the Taipan up in the spotlight where it belongs. The Taipan I believe can best the Impact. It’s better and more reliable and I want to somehow help Tony sell more of them. Airgun Depot doesn’t carry Taipan but does carry FX. I also would not have known what my Taipan is capable of had this “challenge” not come to be. Granted, you ain’t taking down much at 250 yards besides small game. Strelok had my stats at 250 yards:
13 ft/lbf energy
415 fps, started at 882
1.28 second flight time
17′ 10″ point of aim above target
23+ mil holdover
Bizill
I would love to see you win the impact,
I am in your corner,
Its was over my head, I been out to 125 yards with my 25 Cricket, and I thought that was good.
Keep it up and shim that scope.
Mike
250 yards today. I drove 35 miles and 3/4 of the way to my shooting spot I realized I forgot my AGD golf ball. Drove all the way home, got back out to the desert and realized I had forgotten my Caldwell Fieldpod Magnum so I had to shoot of my bipod.
Today I shot out to 250 yards. Be uploading a vid soon.

I’m shootin’ 25.39 @ 927 fps and 33.95 MKI @ 827 fps. AGD = Airgun Depot. They’re holding the drawing. No, I would never buy an Impact but willing to win one. My Taipan is mah bitch!
It’s nuts because just a few short months ago before I bought my Taipan I didn’t think 100 yards was even obtainable. Now out of nowhere I’m hitting a golf ball at 200. I know I can go out further but would need new rings but I’m not gonna do that. Actually, I could still bump up my power on DonnyFL’s little adjustable HST device. Then I could get out to 230 yards without upgrading rings.
Anyone is free to do this challenge for bragging rights or to be put into the drawing. I was just wondering if anyone else is planning to get down as it runs ’till the end of August and I’d love to see some of you behind your guns and in front of a camera. I know just about any one of us can do this quite easily.
.
I don’t usually venture into AGN at all and who’s AGD ?
… …. .. . but good luck in the drawing Bizill !
IMO, the Impact would be worthless for many if not for Ernest to out fix ALL the factory bugs !
Sweetest spots for Kings 25g so far are between 880-920 fps, I’d try it at 880-885 fps ……. it’ll buck/resist the wind better.
Also did I miss something, what speed are you shooting the MK1’s or MK2’s 34g at … .. 800-820 fps ?
but … it . . depends on the tune … on a vacuum effect .. . my Donny Du’s has made for some very cool and unusual pellet flight sounds.

I think I know another reason I couldn’t hit jack squat with my 25.39 JSB’s. They’re flying at 927fps. But I recall hearing them make like a oscillating “whrrrr’ing” type of sound which I would imagine would be synonymous with pellet spiraling. Anyone have any experience in this?

I suppose at the end of the day I could take out a post or find some other visual indicator and have it placed a certain height above the ball at 300+ yards and aim at that but I’m about tired of driving out to the desert and filming. I could do this all day long for fun if I didn’t have to film it or anything. Also the further out I push this little beast, the more boring and dismal shooting in my backyard feels. I think I’ve already ruined that for myself.
